I had an Otterbox Defender for my iPhone 5 and absolutely loved it. Sure, it's bulky and the edge bezel is a bit big, but when you're talking about protecting an expensive piece of hardware it's an easy thing to cope with.
I've never been bothered about how my phone looks so this case will be my next purchase. Plus, with how this case looks people might be less likely to rob someone of their phone. I mean, it doesn't end up looking like an iPhone once all the layers are in place. You could even block the apple logo if you wanted!
"This is the thinnest iPhone we've ever made, also the thinest phone on the planet."
*puts thickets case in the world on the phone*
Dontalay yes. Because it’s the most delicate
I guess this is the best case scenario ;)
Lmao good one😂
BA DUM TSHHHH
I had a defender on my iPhone 4 and I have one for my iPhone 6s Plus but I’ve since switched to a more practical, minimal case-the Apple silicon case. I love it.
I just literally put this phone case on while watching this video and I found the buttons were very easy to press and the Touch ID worked without an issue. The only thing I don't like so far is how exposed feeling the camera is in the back and front. I wish the cutout was a little smaller, but I'm sure it will be fine. I just like to keep my phones mint.
I'm glad I watched your video, I was going to order one of these but didn't realize just how large it really is. Great review as always.
I've had the Defender for my iPhone 5 since I first got it back in 2012. It has not let me down & I will definitely be getting this one for my new iPhone 6 in October. Cant wait!
Do you talk while your opening it? Or do you record than narrate whats going on? Because the audio quality is so good!
Thank you for the video- I could not figure out how to get the case opened.. the jar opener worked perfectly!
Thanks for the video! The only thing I'm not crazy about is the belt clip. It's really difficult to get it off the phone, any tricks to removing it easily? also, you can't use the camera with the clip on the phone, too bad they didn't leave a cutout for that.
Does anybody know when the otterbox cases will come out for the iPhone 6 Plus?
Great review! As a mechanic i had the defender case for my iPhone 5. The best case you can get. This new case seems awfully thicker than it should be considering the phone is thinner. Hopefully you do a review of the commuter case for the iPhone 6 plus. :)
The Otterbox defender case has never let me down
If you want to get the maximum performance out of your touch ID you can peel that sticker shield off of the home button from the inside of the front plate.
Great case, good protection. The touch ID opening worked 50% of the time for 2 weeks, but now is very hit and miss - maybe works 5% of the time. Have no idea what changed, but the membrane causes the thumb unlock to suck. I took the clip off the outer case so that I can just slide it into my front pocket. Works well with great added protection.
I have the defender for my 6. Couple immediate complaints. The flimsy plastic that covers the home button looks like a cheap wrapper. I removed it.
Second, the built in screen protector on mine felt terrible. Made typing a huge hassle and feels like a cheap thick plastic cover. I also removed this and applied a normal screen protector from tech armor. Vastly improved.
Hey Mike what are you using to get those awesome macro close ups?
Great review as always Mike. I was very disappointed when I contacted otterbox and found out that the armor series has been discontinued. I had tested the armor series in the ocean in the pool and got complete waterproof protection for basic under water usage. And now I have to find something else to protect my new phone from water dust dirt and the ridiculous abuse that I submit my phone cases to.
I was hoping I could get an armor case for my g3. But had to settle for a defender...which I like...but if I found a lifeproof case I would jump for joy...
it sure looks tough, is this the plus version or just iphone 6?
also which is better this case or the survival case?
thanks
I Put OtterBox cases on all of the iPhones I've owned.. But I make one modification.
I remove the Otterboxes default screen protector and simply apply a screen protector to the device itself.. it make the experience a lot nicer.

Exactly. The otterbox screen protector is bs.
I don’t use any screen protector with my Otterbox because the lip around the phone keeps it from getting scratched or cracked.
King Jeffry What if your keys scratch it or if your friend takes it off to prank you or something then he drops it or if you take the case off to charge it then drop the fucking phone
When I had a 5s I removed the screen protector because the dust that got underneath it was unreal. I just received my defender case for my 6s this afternoon and I was wondering if I could remove it for the same reason?
I have exactly the same model/color of this defender. it really has a good grip. the only thing I did'nt like about it is the plastic covering the touch screen. It has a huge gap from the plastic to the screen. leaving it so difficult to use especially the touch/home button. So what I did, i removed it permanently and put a thick glass protector.highly recommended !
I have found the Touch ID fingerprint sensor working much better if you retain the sensor after installing the Otterbox Defender Serious Case for the iPhone 6. I am pretty sure about that this tip also covers the Otterbox Defender Series Case for the iPhone 6 Plus.
In my opinion the defender is a must for any Apple handset, not just the 6. Mine have saved my 5 and iPad mini dozens of times.
First. DetroitBorg how do you like the 6 plus is it to big for an average person
Don't know if it was mentioned, Otterbox recommends that you place the phone into the belt clip face in to protect the screen. Outward is for viewing videos, ect.
I have an otterbox case for my iPhone 4s it works great I recommend it if you want extreme protection!
Do you have a problem with you iPhone 6 moving around in the case? My ip 6 moves around some what.
Looks like a decent case. My only grip is that with the outer layer wrapping that tightly (as it also did with iPhone 5) over time it tends to stretch and tear. That problem didn't happen with the iPhone 4 Otterbox. So I look forward to seeing how the iPhone 6 model fairs over time.
Great review! I haven't seen anyone do a review for the Griffin Identity Performance case yet. I was hoping maybe you could do one :) I've been eyeing it but I really like to watch reviews before I purchase.
Great video. Can you remove the screen shield like on previous models? I removed the shield from my iphone 5 case without a problem.
This is the most comprehensive review around. Thankyou very much
I had a defender with my last phone (iPhone 4) The screen protector ended up getting a whole bunch of dust under it and it looked horrible. I hope they fixed the problem. I am considering one of these.
Does the screen protector press against the actual screen making it look like it's wet? Sort of like the lifeproof case or is this one better?
If anyone has a problem with bubbling on the built-in screen, a secret trick I learned was to take one of your fingers, and rub the otterbox screen up and down. The natural oils from your hands will let the screen "stick" to the other surface much easier, and no, you won't see any streaks. Just a trick. Do as you wish with that, of course. :-)
I used to have this case for iPhone 4, and it had a problem that if you take it to a place like kitchen or touch it with wet hands,, water always gets inside between the iPhone screen and the film. This disables the touch screen so I had to take the case off, wipe the screen and film, then put the case back on to solve this. I wonder if that`s improved(looks like it isnt`t)
Have had this case for a few months now, I'm very active, had the phone drop many times on different terrain. If it weren't for this case my phone would be beyond repair today. I recommend this case to anyone with the iPhone 6 or 6 plus.
Which Apple watch are you gonna buy Mike?
Does it leave any marks or scratches on the phone? on my 5S I have marks on the screen and scratches on the sides. And also can you try to do an otterbox commuter for iPhone 6. I'm looking into a case as my upgrade for my phone is in March and I would like to get a decent case for the iPhone 6.
Are you keeping this case on the phone, Mike?
Got to be one of the best case reviews ever..anwsered everything i wanted to know...thanks
My home button protector is getting dis-formed and doesn't fit correctly, should I try cutting around it or..?
After you get and review devices, like you did with this iPhone 6, I think it's a great idea to review the otterbox defender case on the phone in a later video- it is really informative, and I really like the idea. I realize it could become a great cost for you, but chances are after people watch your videos, the want the device, but need to know what case to buy to protect it. Your videos are the first I always look at for reviews, and they are very in depth and informative. Thank you for that. Could you do an otterbox case review for the s5?
So there were two ports that were not protected? Is that right? From water, or is this case no good under water??
I've had 2 iPod touches (5th generation) and neither have bent at all in my pockets, and I've worn skinny jeans most of the time. Without cases. Michael, you replied to someone else and said that iPod touches have been bending for years, have they really? Is it just a hoax because I know many others that have iPod touches and haven't gotten it bent. I also think it's a hoax with the iPhones 6 plus.
Apple officially released a statement today and said only 9 out of 10,000,000 iPhone 6 and 6+'s have been reported bent. So yeah, you're correct!
They are actually lying. There are way more if you search more
thommaipillai merin Apple reported that on the 6th day of sale. Obviously there will be more now, however, my point still stands.
Also, I bet you 99% of the phones bent are purposely bent to see if the phone actually bends. So, I do believe that the actual number of accidental bends is quite small.
PixelPlay16 mine got bent with a candyshell case on it at school because it hit against a table
I love that it makes the phone super secure, but I hate that the case makes it hard to swipe from the sides to go back/forth, the top down to access Notification Center, and the bottom up to enter Control Center. I used one on the 5S, and it was very hard to Dana of the swiping. My iPhone 6 currently just has a back cover. It's not as secure, but much easier to use.
What case have you used for your phone/phones over the years?like the brand.
How's access to the lightening port? Any difficulties getting the plug in there?
Did this case fix bending problem in iphone 6+
You should do a video on the tech 21 case. I want to get it once it gets back in stock.
Did you get this case in particular from the website?
As soon as you can, can you do an Unboxing and review of the lifeproof case for iPhone 6?
Thanks for the review, just got one for a 6+.
How does the silicone hold up compared to past Otterbox cases? My biggest complaint is that the damn silicone stretches over time and eventually tears in places and won't cover the charging port or headphone port either. I've gone through 2 of these with my current iPhone, the 4S. They may have improved in the design with the iPhone 5/5S Otterbox case, I don't know.
I have the defender case for my iPhone 6 and the rubber on this year's model seems a little bit more rugged so I don't think you will have that problem.
I have the defender case for my iPhone 6 and the rubber on this year's model seems a little bit more rugged so I don't think you will have that problem.
if you squish, rub or stretch silicone case a lot it's going to get ugly over time, it just depends how tight your pockets are
The same happened to my iPhone 5 Defender case, dust was getting in the case and interfering with the screen so I would have to take it out and clean it every couple weeks. Eventually the rubber outer shell started to stretch and tear in a couple areas. The dust covers for the silent switch, headphone jack, and lightening cable port all ripped off completely just from regular use. The plastic inside chipped in a few spots too.
All that aside, the case did protect the phone completely. Almost 2 years later the phone is still in brand new condition so even though the case all but fell apart it still did its job.
KryptoKnightmare Does the hard case( in which the phone is placed) scratch the phone?
I am not a big fan of these bulky cases. I know that they do provide good protection but what's the case of buying a phone for its design if you are going to cover it up? I prefer no case at all or thin cases that doesn't affect the design.
Good review though
I had purchased one of these for my old iPhone 6 that I use as a backup. I couldn't get the rubber backing off, even with a pair of pliers. I took it back to Best Buy and the lady there said that she has a special tool to help take off the back. The ease you showed on the video didn't happen for me. I got something else instead.
I love this case but like with my iPhone 5 version the screen cover and the button cover has to come off. unless you really really really want to protect that screen. I dropped my five version about 10 times and it's perfect. I don't worry too much about the screen as it's not going to be directly in contact with anything sharp. If it's anything like the five version that screen cover will just peel right off.
Call quality is compromised with previous models of the Defender series. Listening to someone calling from an iPhone 5 using the Defender case is like hearing someone calling from a tunnel. Not sure if Otterbox addressed that problem with this new case.
Reviews on my commuter otter case has bad reviews but seems awesome on my point of view and less bulkier
The jar opener is a great idea!
THIS CASE SAVED MY PHONE FROM A TOILET DROP AND IMO THAT IS WORTH THE FEW ANNOYANCES.
The only thing I hate about these cases is my OCD kicks in when I get my phone in the case and I notice a piece of dust under the screen protector. It took me multiple tries and tape to get that thing dust free. Lol. The tapping sound the screen protector makes is annoying at first but the touch screen works almost as well. I have to use slightly more force. I did notice the tapping got better after a few days, almost as if it takes time for the screen protector set in. The Touch ID membrane works better than I thought but not as responsive as without it. I don't mind the indented bezel and it's actually nice when playing some games as your fingers do not slide off the screen.
Now, all of these flaws have been forgiven once I dropped my phone in the toilet. Although this case is not water proof and my phone did get slightly wet (especially the speaker and mic since obviously they're not covered by the case) - this case did save my phone and even the speaker and mic still works and I don't think anything got damaged. I immediately dried out the inside of the port and jack with the full end of a toothpick wrapped in paper towel. I was very pleasantly surprised to know this case saved my 2 month old 6s. I'm actually thinking of getting an official waterproof case because I want to keep this 6s forever as it's the last iPhone with a audio jack but just know this case can save your phone from water drops.
And yes, I thoroughly washed the case and wiped the phone with alcohol swabs after it was dry. I'm not complete human trash, just part.
I just got my Defender, a little disappointed, I noticed the hard casing has a little play in it , also the screen protector is not laying flush against the screen leaving a bubble like gap..so when I put my finger on the screen I have to press down in order to make the screen move..not happy
I have an otterbox case for my galaxy note 2 so otterbox may have fixed the materials for this but for my case after a while the flaps started to crack and it soon fell off. Of course otterbox is a great company that provides incredible protection to your device but just a heads up before you buy the product
***** Can you please do a review of the Otterbox cases for the Note 4 and S5? I'm torn between those 2 phones as replacement to my current Note 3. Thanks. ;)
Thank you so much. Very easy to follow directions. I was struggling with this case until I saw your video!
What case would you recommend for iPhone 6?
You should do a indent review of some new software the iPhone 6 & 6 Plus hold from last years model
One of the best reviews I have seen to date. Great job.
The plastic material over the home button/Touch ID messes up the iPhone screen on the space grey model around the home button permanently damaging the phone which really sucks don't get me wrong the case protects the phone on the outside not so much for the inside.
Dose it work with screen protector
does this case leave a smudge around the iphone 6/6+?
Does the Otterbox offer an upgrade to rap the IPhone with an M1 Abrams battle tank?
When on speakerphone the mic is at the top of the phone to stop feedback, you may have to punch a hole through the plastic so people can hear you.
Is the case waterproof ?
would it work with a tempered glass screen protector already installed under the one built in with the case
Did you keep it on your phone very long? Many people reviewed on amazon that after taking the case off there is small marks permanently by the home button. Was this an issue for you?
Happened to me but the rest of the phone remains intact.
I have this for my iPhone 8
The plastic doesn’t feel my finger to swipe up nor does it feel Touch ID
I just cut that circle out
For best protection should I get this or uag?
Hello they claim they are dust proof, how would that be if there are holes in the back where camera is and front where speakers are?
Can you buy another screen protector for the case?
is it waterproof ? :)
Will you be reviewing the lifeproof fre and the nuud when it comes out?
***** DAMN, I was actually hoping you'd do an unboxing and review on that EXACT SAME case model for the iPhone 6, nice video man!
Andres Carrillo Thanks! Decided last minute to cover some major case options for the iPhone 6 so I'm cramming them all in :)
***** Very nice to know! But just keep in mind that Lifeproof is a total rip-off.......
South Florida Foamer™ i heard it was good for the 4 inch models but i agree tried the life proof with my 6 plus not only did the back not feel good but the sound vibrated the case like uuuuu no lol
just got tht case 50% off at amazon can't wait 2 get it
i am desperately waiting for the candyshell for the plus!!
I love otter box. The only thing I hate about them is that they arent friendly when using the beats by dre with that L shaped input. I feel it should be since apple mainly sells Beats products
Is it full waterproof?
The Touch ID still works perfect for mine
Ikr he is just trying to make the video longer
+Kendama Sweets The bubbles look ugly
I ripped mine off and it's even better
Saucy Handles oof
Does this give better protection than pelican Voyager?
Is this water resistant? i wanted to get it but not sure tho
Is the otter box wallet case out for the iPhone 6 yet
To anyone that may want to get this... Take one thing into consideration. My case has actually scratched the device on the open areas and home button. Even though this seems stupid, I put a piece of matte scotch tape on those areas which gets the job done.
Is there an otter for the 6plus that holds cards as well? (Not that we'll need them!).
That's about as close as you're going to get ***** to drop testing his devices, haha!
Tomas Villegas LOL, I'm afraid so...but mostly because setting up drop test shooting is hard when I have nobody to watch the cameras ;)
***** You have dogs. lol
+DetroitBORG
You can tripods to hold the cameras, and you can only drop test cases
***** As someone who shattered her Samsung Note 8, watching people do drop tests makes me wince quite a bit. I'm still nervous about dropping my iPad XD
***** the otterbox makes a sound when ur touching ur iphone i think there is a gap
Would the iPhone 6 bend with a otter box commuter?
On my iPhone SE otter box case, I had to take the screen shield off because it was messed up, and I took the apple logo protecter off because I thought it was just for pakaging
How much thickness does it add to the phone??
Is that case waterproof
Detroitborg can u please review some Griffin cases, I'm not sure if I should get one?
What’s a good Outter case for everyday use
does the holster come off easily? or is it kind of hard to get it off the holster? my husband has a case that has that sort of holster and he struggles getting his phone out of the holster. it's a different brand though
I actually mean, does the phone come out of the holster easily. my husband has a hard time getting his phone out when it's ringing and he's missed calls because he couldn't get the phone out of the holster in time.
+Stacey Cash I just got mine today and it seems pretty easy to take it out of the holster 👍🏼
Vermillion lol
