MOST people have exactly ZERO clue about how much different this TIDE defense is going to be philosophically,sheme,concepts,alignment-wise,and assignment wise. On ALL 3 levels. People do NOT have a clue. But I do.ILB will be similar against the run and run fits. But that is all.
*THE TIDE will no longer be a predominantly 2-Gap defense up-front. This will allow guys to be aggressive, use techniques, and go eat.
*The ILBs will be required to be in their correct fits and attack the LOS....And Blitz..And Cover
*The Bandit(WSDE) will be a bigger edge and be required to play anywhere from a 4i to a 6 Technique(Still can play Rabbits with a slightly smaller guy like Keon Keeley)
*The Wolf will be a Pass rusher,an Edge setter, be able to play Man on RBs and TE's,and a Flat defender in Zone...And a blitzer
*In the Backend THE TIDE will Morph into a dominant layered Zone team(And it is about time)....Will be able to play 3-Deep Zone(Cover 3). 1-High safety Man under(Cover 1). Cover 0.(Man everywhere). 2-HIGH Safety looks with Cover-2 Zone. Cover 5(2-High Safety Man Under). And even quarters.
*Instead of a pre-determined Left Corner and designated Right Corner against everything and everybody.? We will now utilize a Field Corner and a Boundary Corner.
*And here are some of the MAJOR differences additionally. Under Saban we were a Pattern Matching,Matchup, trading,Passing off Guys in what could be call a Matchup Zone, with outside CB's playing man,and 2-High Safeties playing Matchup. And it cost us 3 ballgames the last 2 years. 2 UT's and a Michigan. What did these teams have in common.??? Tremendous, innovative play designers who constantly"stuck" us in bad matchups time and time again or got us overloaded in an area.,or took advantage of shit communication..NO LONGER....
*Under Saban the Free Safety and the Strong Safety were interchangeable. Same position. Same responsibilities. No LONGER.
*In the Swarm the Nickel(Husky) and the SS(Rover) are now the same player and position. They become the 2 MOST important and versatile positions on this defense. They are NOW Slot Defenders(SS can still drop and be a 1/2 field Safety)....Responsibilities:
1)Must be able to set a strong edge against the run and be physical tacklers...
2)Must be aggressive and creative Blitzers from ANY Gap...
3)Must be effective Flat Defenders in Zone...
4)Must be able to play man on RBs at them and across the formation
5)Must be able to take on and lock up bigger In-Line TE's....
6)Must be able to cover Flexed TE's like a Bowers..Or a hybrid like a Kyle Pitts or Caleb Odom
7)Must be able to line up on inverted Number 1 WRs,get big pieces, and carry them down the field in Man
Not all but hope this helps. Try NOT to worry about the inexperience and concentrate on the talent of our Corners. They are NOT going to be stuck on Islands ALL the time ala Kool-Aid+Arnold

Womack will install a simpler more player friendly defense. Playmakers will have more freedom to make plays. That means big hits, big plays and people flying all over the place. The con is it’s not a disciplined defense like it was under Saban. There’s going to be a lot more big plays ran on Bama this year. Saban’s defense just smothered you with technique and discipline. Meaning not an inch given but big plays weren’t happening like they will now. Womacks’s defense can change momentum quick and combined with an explosive offense can be game breaking. Saban’s defense combined with a grinding offense will beat you into submission. I like Saban’s style more but Womack/ DeBoer’s style does have it’s benefits.

Alabama's defense with be greatly improved because Saban won't be running it. Gone is the overly complex NFL style defensive scheme that Saban ran the last 10 years. Gone is the playing of inferior upperclassmen who know the scheme instead of more talented players sitting on the bench who "might" make a mistake. Gone is Saban being happy that the other team's offense took 8 minutes off the clock while scoring a TD. Gone is Saban giving 95% of playing time to starters and 75% of practice time. That is what caused so many 4 and 5 stars players to transfer away. Depth on both offense and defense has been a problem for the last five years.
Now for all you GOAT herders that think the co-coordinators have been the problem, how do you answer the fact that Saban himself said multiple times "I wear a headset during the game and I hear the play calls. If I don't like them then I change them." Only a fool thinks that Saban wasn't in complete control of the program. He is a control freak.
By the way, go watch the 2020 Auburn game again. Golding called a near perfect game without Saban being there to overrule him.

Same, but I’m also feeling like what Kirby and Georgia are doing to make players sign for a discount is violating AntiTrust laws, and forwarding my concerns to the AG of Alabama. I’m struggling to understand why positions other than quarterback are required to take the discount but they go out and pay top dollar for a QB backup? When a player gets hurt and they took the Kirby Discount that seems to be an issue, the kid gets misled into thinking a payout is coming for taking said discount but in truth by taking the discount they are losing money and signing below market rate so that Kirby can then turn and say only I can get you to the NFL reeks of market manipulation. NFL players wouldn’t entertain this system and there’s zero transparency.. maybe it’s legal but it’s certainly unethical
