Music for grownups. Excellent song from my favorite record of 2021.

I'm 38 years old and just found this absolute gem of a man and his songs. It's never too late to find amazing music and chances are, that like me, you'll find it exactly when you need it.

“You can’t be young and do that” is such a reclamatory lyric. It’s the most bittersweet ability he has

Thank you! I'm pretty sure this is the first live version of this incredible song on RUclips.

This song. Excellent. I can relate to so much Mr McMurtry is singing about here.

This has been my favorite song since it came out. Love those chords, similar to Ruby and Carlos, and the lyrics and imagery. Not many artists can make me cry on hearing a song for the 30th time--James McMurtry can.

Same here, especially since the songs on this album reflect his advancing age. I find myself in the same place.

I saw McMurtry play this last year and the chorus definitely brought the tears. I'm too young to cash in on a 30 year crush, but damn this song is just such a warm glow of emotion.

I went and saw him a couple weeks ago in Phoenix. It was awesome! At the Crescent Ballroom in Phoenix. He's a master of the acoustic guitar.

The newest album is as great of work he has done in his career. So often the quality of the music of an artist fades with age. Not with James. It's some of his best work.

I was amazed at how small and intimate the place was. Did you notice how after the show James just went to a back table and sat down. I was surprised no one seemed to go up and bother him.

@@rkbob3444 I actually talked to him briefly after the show. His ex-bass player Ronnie Johnson who played with Jono Manson before him, introduced him to me and my dad before the show. I told him we'd see him the next night in Santa Fe (I got a video on RUclips of him playing "Jackie") and he thanked us for coming out.

I saw James say in an interview explain Canola Fields as he did at the onset. He said "second best surfer on the central coast" was just a line he had written down and wanted to work into a song.
