Had no idea he had released a new one. My bad. This man has sung my life in his songs and I will be forever grateful. Actually had the great good luck to talk with him a couple of times after concerts in NH. Thanking him for his music was a high point in my long and hard life.
PL
@@davidrandle5935 Sorry, don't know what " PL" means.
Keep doing what your doing James cause you do it well. Many of us are on the same bus. Peace.
Holy crap. You've been snooping on our family haven't you. Two brothers, a sister, and an eighty-year old mom (who is a consummate lady, indeed). Except for Golden Corral... nailed it.
Thanks James. There's several things in that song that are out of my life. You and your old man can sure write!
Played this for his encore. So glad he did, one of his best!
This guy is so underrated
Not here in Texas! Down here(especially in Austin) we know how fucking great he is!
At Lagunitas he's selling Our Tribes beer.
😁
Yerp a derp my doggy dog
James is the next John Prine. Go James!!
I could not agree more!!!
James is one of the few modern sources of actual country music (not panderin country)
I am very glad to have found his music
Have you looked into Jason Isbell's stuff? (Just checking)
Hard to say, but it tells it like it is. I'd say they don't write songs like in the 60s, but I'm wrog. Thank you, James.
Heard this on Outlaw Channel and had to learn it when I got home. Perfectly done.
Absolutely sublime. Doesn’t get any better than this. It’s a delight and honor to have met all five in previous projects through house concerts at my cousin Ruth and hubby Rob’s over the years. Kudos to cousin Paul Kowert for masterminding this project- he was already mind bending chops-wise and the rest of the lineup are up to that level of mastery - and wonderful people to boot. I’m blessed to call them all cousins.

He is the real deal.
Heard it for the first time last night when he played in Milwaukee. Fantastic show, as usual.
Ya, you said it James, we'll do all were able with what we got left... and that ain't much.
Hats off to you sir.. keeping it real
Only McMultry can write songs like this
One of the blessed to have seen James perform... 🎶
Amen
amen brother
Perhaps the song of the year
Song of the Decade
Mcmurtry is awesome
Once again, thanks for your insight and explicit communication: your commitment to your craft astonishes me as well as deeply moves me to tears ❤❤❤!!!
Really love this song, but then haven't met one of James McMurtry's songs I didn't like.
It sucks the big one
Yep, I get it. I bought "Childish Things" recently--"We Can't Make It Here" was the only song on it that I'd heard before, but the whole album is just hit after hit.
Loved Jim forever
Listening to that surrounded the time of Thanksgiving 2021. I'm so glad I'm spending it alone.
This song hits home fan for life here in Texas
He came and played a show in my little Placer County California town a few years back…it was completely unexpected and completely awesome as well…Come back anytime James!!!
McMurtry is John Prine with a political bent. Love his lyrics!!!
Your Flag Decal Won't Get You Into Heaven Anymore is political !
@@fosterhart2013 The Great Compromise is hugely political as well.
Line for line everything can either be an analogy to the vietnam war or his girlfriend leaving him at the drivein.
Spells it out!! Thank you!
Wow Great Musician. One of the best i have ever heard. Awesome song, This reminds me a bit of Woody Guthrie's sentiment in his songs.
Yes! Sad but true.
This song cuts to the bone. The man can write. PEACE!
Fantastic!
James has done it again one more damn great message song now listen to his song we can’t make here anymore so damn true people better wake up look around what’s going on it’s all in plain sight.
Lyrics:
My brother's a fascist, lives in Palacios, fishes the pier every night
He holsters his Glock in a double retention, he smokes while he waits for a bite
He don't like the Muslims, he don't like the Jews
He don't like the Blacks and he don't trust the news
He hates the Hispanics and alternative views, he'll tell you it's tough to be white
My sister's a Christian, she likes to go fishin', she don't mind my brother at all
He puts her on redfish and flounder and trout, and they tear up the flats in the fall
She gets back to Dallas all sun burnt and sour
Worn out from slinging plugs hour after hour
Seeing spots when she closes her eyes in the shower, she don't see a conflict at all
It's the state of the union I guess
It's always been iffy at best
We're all in the family, the cursed and the blessed
It's the state of the union I guess
We're all in the family, the cursed and the blessed
It's the state of the union I guess
Mother turned eighty, consummate lady, we took her to Golden Corral
'Cos she likes the Yeast Rolls and Bourbon Street Chicken, we oughta known better by now
'Cos me and my brother got into it good
I called him a hick and he called me a hood
He said Dad always treated his Mexican's good, I guess you think you're better somehow
Yeah you think you're better, cardigan sweater, snowflake if ever there was
You think you're so cool 'cos you did good in school, you got whipped every day on the bus
Sister let out for the shop and got worse
Went to Wednesday night prayer at the new Christian church
With a cross on her neck and a nine in her purse, she might be the wisest of us
It's the state of the union I guess
We're all in a hell of a mess
We're all in the family, the cursed and the blessed
It's the state of the union I guess
It's the state of the union I say
Christmas dinner, might be hell to pay
So how 'bout them Cowboys and have a blessed day
It's the state of the union I say
It's the state of the union I guess
It's always been iffy at best
We'll do all we're able with what we got left
It's the state of the union I guess
We'll do all we're able with what we got left
It's the state of the union I guess
Warty Bliggens
Many thanks for these lyrics, Peace
Raaaayyyyciiiiissssss. Lol.
I like it.
This guy is where it's at these days, I think he's awesome
Been waiting for this. My new theme song.
nailed it!
It's The Damn Truth. After 66 years I've seen a lot. It's The State Of The Union For Sure.
Woody would have been proud
@@alyorkie6 yes. yes he would.
Why is this not on Spotify????? God it’s so good.
A sad song. James is unique and awesome.
A very well thought out and written tune. I love it.
Good sound quality.
Seeing him tonite in Albany.
Dang that guy is Bobby Zimmerman (Dylan) incarnate! -and I"m from Minnesota! I wish he wrote more.
So true!
Like it a lot👍🎻
Wow. Wow.
Effin good tune! I get it and I love it!
A special song.
I can't tell if this song is about me--or someone I know! It's perfect, and hilarious! I love the church line about "a cross on her neck, and a nine in her purse"! The musicianship in this song is enchanting. Thanks, James. I play this song every day in these dark times.
Yes, and the song "We can't make it here anymore" is even more relevant today!
I relate to his brother.
Same as it ever was in 2021...
So it's not just me 😂❤✌️
instant classic.
And he is so right
Lost John Prine.
Found James McMurtry.
had to go searching the lyrics....

Thanks for these wonderful lyrics, ain't it the truth, peace.
Why isn't this on an album?
Seen John live a few times/ if you haven’t do yourself a favor.
Its always been iffy
Crazy RUclips algorithm played an ad by ALKCOOL. They were advertising merchandising refrigerators. Yeah more room to put all those $6.00 Monster drinks in.
2023, and...
Why?? We got Neil? Mc. should know.
lol i live in palacios
😴💤💤💤💤💤
Sounds more than rather like Johnny Cash.
Even my racist Grandma like this!
Those are MY relatives
Please do not be frozen in time.
hits way too close to home (although my brother ain't like that thank god)
Love James, hate Trump so this song is perfect!
I'd hang out with James and family, his brother sounds cool haha
Alex his brother might think what he thinks, but after all his political views he still probably ain't a bad guy. Political views and character in a person can be pretty separate
60s called. They want their music back.
Commie gonna commie
Horrible negative self loathing song
