My high school horn section bought this piece and performed it at our Christmas concert. It was amazing, hearing all of those lovely horns. I am honored to have played this wonderful song. :)
5:25 the final passage is so well written, really amazing. Playing is also outstanding. The bravado reminds me of Schumanns concert piece for four horns. Awesome!!
This is everything Christmas music should be. I truly love what you do with the french horn and really appreciate what you do with it as a fellow horn player.
Listening to things like this make me really want to add a second major (music of course) to my current engineering major. I love playing the horn so much.
Hey Marc! I just bought this right now! I am currently sitting 2nd chair in my High School Symphonic Band! My horn section is by far one of the best in the state of Texas. I am going to try to put this together with my fellow horns! All of us always stay after school trying to create horn ensemble pieces and playing for fun. I think this piece will truly be fun for us to play! Thanks man, your are the greatest!
So Amazing!! Nice blends between differeent carols. I am the only horn in the seventh grade band in my middle school (there is only one horn in eighth and sixth grade too), and I absolutely love this!!
Goodness man! Kudos to you... Did you record the 8 parts separately? Your are awesome and my inspiration as a freshman horn player! Thanks for all you do!
Well, thats even cooler! One thing though, from what I can hear you have absolutely no intonation issues with this composition and was wondering if you could give any advice. I have been told that correct intonation produced only with the emboushure will develop overtime but as much as I try to tune the actual horn (not very successfully) I can never find that nice balance. Thanks!
It does come over time ! I'd advice to play a lot with other musicians, this way your ears will get more and more used to the music surrounding you and then your intonation will automatically respond and adapt itself ;)
my high school only has 3 french horns remaining in 9th grade and one of them is leaving next year. it is going to be very intersesting. i just got invited to play at a solo ensomble so i am working very hard with my horn :)
Katie Vogel I know this is 6 years later from the comment - but I was just wondering, where do your horn career end up? Did you continue it in college or outside of it? Not even sure if you use this RUclips anymore, I just think it’d be interesting :)
hello, i am going to buy this peice for our horns for my schools christmas concert, and i was wondering why you didn't put "Hark, the herald angels sing" in this wonderful arrangement of music?? It's just my favorite Christmas song, and i was wondering.
Hey ! Backing tracks for the octet are available here when you purchase the "full pack" : www.marcpapeghin.com/christmas-horn-spirit-horn-ensemble/ As of now they aren't available for the quartet since I didn't record it but I could generate some with synthesized horns if needed !
What mic set up do you use? I m trying to put together a CD for a Christmas present. I have a couple killer arrangements I did that I want record. Any help on getting set up would be awesome.
+Michael Gunderson Hey Michael, there are tons of mics available and a very large range of prices so it'll depend on your budget ! As for my setup, these days I use a Sennheiser 421 and a Shure SM27
I bought the brass quintet version of this but the only problem is that there are no backing tracks. The horn part that i play in the quintet version is pretty difficult, and It would be amazing to be able to listen to it. is there any way this is possible??
I could export a synthesized version of the horn track from my notation software if you'd like ? Exporting a backing track without the horn should be possible too
This peice of music looks scary >~< could anyone give me any advice bcus im having trouble in my french horn. I just cant play when everybody else in my ensemble plays in such a fast pace. Pls help lol
+Reana Sabalones This could be a little late in your response, but I heard a phrase awhile ago which is "Fail Harder" and that means set your metronome at the time of the piece and keep rehearsing it at that pace and eventually you will have the notes match up with metronome. Or you could practice it slower and then increase the metronome, but I recommend the Fail Harder method.

12 years later... That's wild
Ha! I just saw part 2, and thought part 1 was a _little_ more recent. Been enjoying your videos since Mario Kart with Songe.
@@woengel Oh wow ! Yeah Part 1 is actually pretty much as old as the Mario Kart Medley 😁
The whole point of the backing tracks I provide is that you can actually play ANY part of the medley while being accompanied by the other 7 ;)
As a musician with nearly 15 years of experience, I shed tears to these songs lol... Absolutely amazing...
Hats off to you my friend. Wonderfully done piece, very challenging, very well done! Old horn player here, you've made my day.
5:25 the final passage is so well written, really amazing. Playing is also outstanding. The bravado reminds me of Schumanns concert piece for four horns. Awesome!!
This is fantastic!! It's very artfully did it, I love it!
I only wish I knew 7 horn players.

What do you use to mix them together?
You need to use a DAW ( Digital Audio Workstation )
Personally I use Cubase !

You going to here this a hundred times but practice
I'm the only French horn in my band, only three French horns in the entire high school:(
