I know why you had the AI take control of your one army despite checking it off in that one battle: there is a glitch in Rome: Total War where if you ever choose to check the enemy army and/or your own army (like you did before starting the battle), it will default back to having your reinforcements AI-controlled. The safest way to eliminate this is to, before starting the battle, check and then uncheck the box again to reset it for you.
Ya it’s weird. Sometimes I feel like even when you click on the army it still works, sometimes it doesn’t, idk I’m not gonna try to make sense of it lol

Drunk episodes = rants and poor decisions
Sober episodes = sensible gameplay and tips
