I was 6 years old when I watched Return of the Jedi in the theater for the very first time. It changed my life. This movie is the reason I love movies so, so much. Ewoks were my fucking jam. C'mon, sentient, warrior teddy bears! Those were the best to a 6-year-old girl who had a room full of stuffed animals. This is still my favorite movie of all time, tho it is very hard to quantify. Will always be a Star Wars nerd for LIFE. Def. gonna check out Rock and Rule as I don't think I've ever seen it and it looks fucking awesome.
The dvd of Rock and Rule came with the Devil and Daniel Mouse short film. Both movies had great music. Dance Dance Dance is probably my favorite EWF song.
Also... To be fair on changing the Wookies to the Ewoks... They probably would have given people flashbacks to the holiday special... (Actually come to think of it... they probably could have just reused the sets from the special if they still had them...)
So many good MST3K fodder during this era. Return of the Jedi suffers from the same problem that the third part of all trilogies suffer from in that they’re all about tying things up rather than pushing things forward. Same with Godfather 3 and the third part of that whole Tolkien thing.
Sybil Danning isn't in it but it's still the 70th anniversary of Seven Samurai for a few more months, if you get a chance to see it in theaters the cleaned up print is beautiful!
Return of The Jedi was the first movie I ever saw in a movie theater. The experience was kinda confusing because I hadn't seen the first two movies, so I was totally unfamiliar with the characters and the Star Wars universe. The scene with the Rancor in Jabba the Hutt's palace stood out for me. The Rancor has been my favorite movie monster ever since.
The Prodigal Planet!!! Yes!!! The 3rd one is the only one that feels like an actual movie but they’re sooooo worth watching just for the cringe factor. Thanks for including it!
I’ve got so much love for Space Hunter! Loved it back in the day and still do now. I used to draw Wolff’s gun and those cool bikes with the cages around them at school. Glad that 101 Films released the blu ray if this and another favourite, Runaway (with Tom Selleck n Gene Simmons).
The week Return of the Jedi was released (it released on a Wednesday), was the day of my high school class' 'baccalaureate ceremony. We'd started the day with finals, and as soon as they were over, we ran into town to see Jedi. That night, after the ceremony, a couple of friends asked us to go again, and when we got there, it was pretty much our entire senior class. That movie will always have a special place for me, for releasing at such a special time in my life.
I remember an article that said Incredible Hulk guy attempted a publicity stunt for one of his sword and sandal movies. He drove a horse drawn chariot down the street in LA in full costume with a flowing cape. He was pulled over by highway PD and ticketed.
Spacehunter is great fun and deserves 3.5-4 rating. Silly nonsense but highly watchable. Return of the Jedi is a solid 5 and is the best Star Wars movie ever made (original 1983 version). It's awesome action triple climax rules - and the space battle is the best ever filmed still! Our family attorney was one of the investors in Rock and Rule, and he's still pissed about losing his money.
Spacehunter: Adventures in the Forbidden Zone. I remember seeing that in theaters when I was a kid. Back when they were doing the whole 3D thing again 😂
Rock ‘n’ Rule! I was hoping you would get to that eventually, as it’s one of my favorite animated films. I’m a huge Deborah Harry fan, and Blondie is a group ha ha. But, it’s actually a movie that is goofy but really fun, and the music is truly great.
Josh: "There's boils coming, bloody seas, heat, darkness, and rivers drying up, and hail, and a big battle." Me: Cats and dogs living together... mass hysteria! 😀
I adore Rock n Rule. The Devil and Daniel Mouse is included with the DVD but there's a scene missing for some reason. Fun fact: the band Bauhaus used the dialogue from The Devil and Daniel Mouse for a B-Side called The Party of the First Part. The dialogue is actually pretty creepy listened to that way with the band playing weird jazz music behind it.
Thank you!! I totally forgot about rock & rule. I watched that movie on cable every time it was on. With movies like heavy metal and heavy metal 2000 I forgot how awesome rock & rule was and need to re-wat h it.
Great moments in not knowing your audience: George Lucas ,"Wait! People like Boba Fett?" 343 Industries ,"Wait! People think of themselves as the Master Chief when they play Halo?" Marvel Comics ,"Wait! People love the X-Men and hate the Inhumans?"
Return of the Jedi! I was a big Star Wars fan as a kid, and this was my favourite when it was released. My fandom has waned considerably, and now Empire is my #1 following the original. Nevertheless, I have good memories with the original RotJ (love the Ewoks), but haven't bothered with the newer versions.
Of this group the only two I know of and actually seen or rock and rule and of course return to the Jedi. I like them both but for different reasons. And now these two I got to go with rock and rule.
Ewoks replaced Wookies in Return of the Jedi because Wookies were shown to be too technologically advanced. George wanted the advanced Empire to be partially helped taken down by a primitive species.
Fisher lost weight after being fitted for her space bikini. She said it hung loose on her during filming and that when she sat the hip plate separated from her pelvis. She said the guy in the Boba Fett costume who stood behind her could see "...clear down to Florida."
Damn they actually used the right number of the beast in that christian movie. 616 is the actual number, 666 was a mistranslation but obviously it's become widely accepted.
Thanks for affirming that the prequels are, indeed, molten hot garbage. Disney could make a couple billion dollars by Christmas if they released digitally remastered non special edition versions of the original three films.

As the tshirts and the 2000 album say, "Blondie is the name of the band"
I never realised I needed to see David Cronenberg's Star Wars.
Everyone keeps forgetting Ewoks are man eaters. They love to make human flesh stew.
Protein... 😅
The Ewok death gets me every time too...
The dvd of Rock and Rule came with the Devil and Daniel Mouse short film. Both movies had great music. Dance Dance Dance is probably my favorite EWF song.
What is Lynch AND Cronenberg had teamed up for Star Wars? That would have been a wild ride.
Also... To be fair on changing the Wookies to the Ewoks...
They probably would have given people flashbacks to the holiday special...

35:37 - You messed up the conversion. It should be "1.6 Kilometers O'Keefe". ;)
Sybil Danning isn't in it but it's still the 70th anniversary of Seven Samurai for a few more months, if you get a chance to see it in theaters the cleaned up print is beautiful!
Rifftrax did a great episode for "Warriors of the Lost World."
There’s an alternate timeline with a David Cronenberg Star Wars film and I want to live in that timeline
Space hunter is my favourite from that block I watched that so much as a kid along with Jedi and Battle beyond the stars

Nice April 15 is my birthday too! Rock and Rule is an all-time favorite of mine!

YAY! dreams come true, Thanks for another episode!
Starflight made me realise Josh, you never reviewed Airlplane II, which at least was intentionally funny.
80's Project!!!!!!! Love these. Thank you!

Return is my favorite but space hunter is right up there with it. Saw them both in the theater when I was 11
33:33 "Ewoks aren't Muppets, they're guys in suits! Two different things!"
Sweetums and Big Bird would like a word!
That….is a very good point.
Thumbs up for the Rock & Rule Love!
I'd watch Starflight just for Hal Linden. I'm a huge Barney Miller fan.
Rock N' Rule was, indeed, the best of the lot. But I did really enjoy Spacehunter,
I'm looking forward to the late 80s when the man the legend Pierre Kirby makes a triumphant appearance on the 80s project
Spacehunter: Adventures in the Forbidden Zone. I remember seeing that in theaters when I was a kid. Back when they were doing the whole 3D thing again 😂

Ewoks make me miss my shih tzu 😢
just received my scifi book for this project. very cool.
Josh, I love you for being ‘meh’ about Stars Wars in general . . . and fuck yeah: *Rock & Rule* a man of true character
…🫶….
Le Dernier Combat is a solid film.
People wearing suits for rocket launches, what is this Gattaca? 😄
4:09 Always a good reason.
I always love a segment when I see BOB>.
I do actually love the ewoks bc of childhood nostalgia with the spinoff movies I watched to hell as a kid 😂
Great moments in not knowing your audience:
George Lucas ,"Wait! People like Boba Fett?"
343 Industries ,"Wait! People think of themselves as the Master Chief when they play Halo?"
Marvel Comics ,"Wait! People love the X-Men and hate the Inhumans?"
Wait, you're not supposed to cheer at the Ewok death?
I THINK IT WAS THE EWOKS MOM OR DAD THAT U SEE THE OTHER ONE TRY TO WAKE UP :(

wise
So Rock and Rule is basically like if Sonic Underground was a 1983 movie?
Of this group the only two I know of and actually seen or rock and rule and of course return to the Jedi. I like them both but for different reasons. And now these two I got to go with rock and rule.
Ewoks replaced Wookies in Return of the Jedi because Wookies were shown to be too technologically advanced. George wanted the advanced Empire to be partially helped taken down by a primitive species.
Might be true, but it was way more about merchandising. George was going through a messy divorce and needed the money.
I have to find the Prodigal Planet series… Left Behind was awful, I can only imagine a bargain basement version 😂
I dare you to do a timeline on tim ritters truth or dare series
Интересно будет ли обзор фантастических фильмов 50, 60,70 годов или только 80?
Fisher lost weight after being fitted for her space bikini. She said it hung loose on her during filming and that when she sat the hip plate separated from her pelvis. She said the guy in the Boba Fett costume who stood behind her could see "...clear down to Florida."
How is Starlight not a ripoff of Airplane! II in revenge for Airplane! being a parody of Airport?
❤❤❤
Josh discusses sodomy and then next talks about trends ;)

I think people are just remembering them more fondly now, because of how bad the sequels were. 😂
I blame ROTJ for making the slave Leia costume for a bunch of cosplayers who are not even Star Wars fans.
my favorite Star Wars film- 1. Empire 2. New Hope 3. Rogue One 4. Return of the Jedi the rest are crap!!!
@@paynephilip Your list is what is crap.
