- Just 25 years ago, the Good Friday Agreement put an end to decades of violence and brought peace to Northern Ireland. The accord's enduring success has made it a model for peace negotiations across the world. The architects of that groundbreaking pact were former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, former U.S. President Bill Clinton and former Irish Prime Minister Bertie Ahern. In a historic reunion, Blair, Clinton and Ahern sat down with Christiane for an exclusive interview reflecting on the hard choices they made to achieve peace and stability for the beleaguered nation.

I tried to explain to my children the before and after effects of the GFA, how at my sons aged lifting beer glasses in a pub, gunmen passed me in a pub only to empty 2 assault rifles into crowd standing at the bar. Dumping bottles in the back bin store saved me at age 18 as student. How under cover solders halt my car and got away from a serious security issue that turned to be massive road side bomb, I had been the 2nd car behind that lorry! I could even mention it to my parents how close that was! Twice!
I struggled to explain things through zero fault of your own could affect you during the troubles, GFA ended that ! It is bizarre what normal was before the GFA..
Thank you for sharing your story with us. This is history that is so important for all of us to remember, and a story like yours makes it much more real and personal.
I am from Belfast originally and I can say, we owe these three men a great debt of gratitude. I salute you and thank you.

Thank you gentlemen and the courageous David Trimble and John Hume's undying persistent pursuit of peace. Credit also due to Paisley and McGuinness for finding a way to make peace with their former enemies in 2007. Todays generation have not lived through the tragedy of the NI past conflict so seem less willing to accommodate their opposites, with courage, humility and generosity. What's needed now is a genuine a deep rooted reconciliation between the three communities. Irish Rugby has been a path finder over the decades, may their performance in the world cup later this year act as a catalysts for genuine reconciliation and the evaporation of mistrust. Thank you President Clinton, former Prime Minister Blair, and former Taoiseach Ahern. You are extraordinary humans who were in the right place at the right time and persisted through the difficult hours to find a way to transform Northern Ireland. We must not loose what has been gained in peace, prosperity and joyous living in NI.

Amanpour has the chops, the historical record and background to conduct this. She got them talking, but as my main complaint of the CNN, some producer cut it short.
The Good Friday Agreement was possible because all the stakeholders eventually coalesced around a central ideal that required everyone to both give and gain. A remarkable piece of diplomacy. In addition to the devolved government of Northern Ireland, you had of course Her Majesty's Government speaking for the UK of which Northern Ireland was a part. Additionally, the Republic of Ireland was a significant contributor to the process - and not just the political leadership - but through referenda on changes to the Constitution of the Republic of Ireland the people of Ireland in overwhelming numbers moved roadblocks out of the way that had been a thorn in the side for Unionists in Northern Ireland. You had all those moving parts at work but without the fuel and the energy of President Clinton and his diplomats, especially George Mitchell the agreement would never have been made. Cudo's to all for both making it a priority and a reality. So many lives are being well lived that would have otherwise been lost. Great job to all. You will be remembered for your contribution by many generations to come.in addition to your incredible dedication to peace and to building a prosperous and harmonious future for all traditions and stakeholders to enjoy. Thank You!
Very good overview of the the GFA. For me giving up articles 2 and 3 of the Irish constitution was a big ask and the day of the referendum I was torn as to how I should vote, I voted in favour glad I did now.

No discussion of the one-sided, cynical approach of the Americans and the EU in recent times, seeking to leverage the threat of violence to bring Britain back into the EU system.
