I tried out for the Army band while in the U.S. Army since a trombone slot was open. This was many years ago and I was playing on many groups all my life ; but didn’t pass audition for the 8th Army band. The section leader told me to keep practicing and I still have after an additional 30 years of playing. Actually at the time the section leader told me I was almost good enough as last chair player which now all these years later I realize that was an amazing compliment from him.
I contacted an Army Recruiter a few years back, when I was about 54, and asked him if I could try out for the band. After he found out about my age, he told me I couldn't. And I was like "I can't be in the friggin' band?".
Amazing...superb... phenomenal...the big success of picture 1941 performed by U.S. Army. I'm Trumpet player, Bandleader of Dixie Swingers Jazz Band from Lindoia, SP-BRAZIL. Beyond play in my Jazz Band I'm 1st Trumpet of Musical Corporation Lira of Serra Negra,SP-, BRAZIL. We play all John Phillip Souza repertoire, several themes of Glenn Miller,Duke Ellington,Benny Goodman,Tommy Dorsey,Ray Anthony etc. Congratulations thanks for send your videos,I see all.
Fabulous band and musicians. Thank you all for your service. I checked out John Williams conducting the march with the U. S. Marine Band - the tempo is more relaxed and it swings!
Been listening to Army Field Band all morning -- really warms my heart!! Wish EVERY Child given Opportunity to Play Musical Instrument!! Playing in a band teaches Goal Setting and sense of Community Cooperation and more!! Listening to INSTRUMENTAL Music activates parts of brain that require Deep Concentration -- and PATIENCE!! These are highly developed Life Skills that would ELEVATE Every American! (When traveling in Europe, people of ALL Ages were able to Quickly Identify so many Different Instrumental Songs. Music Appreciation taught early on.)
Thank you. This was inspiring performance. I was looking at the musicians' decorations. Are there any members of the U.S. Army Field Band who have been awarded the Combat Infantry Badge? It seems to me there must be some. Again, thank you for such an outstanding performance.
Have these guys ever played Carnegie Hall? Wow! They always impress me!!! I’ve got to look up their history. They are an impressive group of players to say the very least!!!!
Amazing arrangement and playing skills, but I find it funny that the theme from a movie that pokes serious fun at the US Army is played by an Army band
Depending on the density of the MOS, they certainly can be that young. I at one point was an MI branch manager for the E5s and below and so many were getting the traing and then getting out, thd ones who stayed in would get promoted crazy fast. It is also completely possible that all of the player slots are NCO slots, with the few junior enlisted slots being admin and supply positions.
Yes. Being a military musician is just one of the many career opportunities the army affords. All of these soldiers that you see on our channel go through the same Basic Combat training as everyone else in the army, then they are trained in music
Unbelievably well played, but the tempo and the clipped articulation of everything gives the music a serious, stone-faced, merciless character which is not the intent of the original march. The movie is a comedy, and the march is rollicking and humorous. All of those off beats in the percussion and blue note variants in the melody are meant to be satirical and mocking the traditional march. This is just a bit too poker-faced.
A great march. From one of the best WWII films ever made.
*1941 is a Christmas movie* 😃
It's one of my favourite films too
Just fun silly bonkers🤣
I see you were in the 11th Airborne. So was my dad during WW2. He was in the 503rd PIR. Yes., The Rock.
Sad that this movie bombed at the box office. It was a riot and star studded E Ticket ride

I imagine that the trombone part at the 3:04 mark must kick the butt of the most seasoned players.

Exemplary performance by a group of truly gifted musicians.
Love it that a military band chooses to play a song from a feature length military parody lol. Right on guys 👍
It’s A Mad, Mad World on steroids.
A fantastic March! A fantastic Band. A fantastic Nation!
(A fantastic Army!)
Fantastic .. Brilliant.. Amazing Orchestra - Music only from the mind of John Williams!
Aw man! We have this song in our school but have never played it! I always wanted to play this and to see this band do it makes kinda jealous!
Vi ascolto incantata e mi sembra di essere dentro un film. Siete bravissimi!!! Thank you very much

I can’t wait to see if I will ever be eligible to join such a marvelous band while I survive my proud nation
I’m a trumpet player heh 😊
Um, "serve"?
Blue Ink best of luck to you

The same year as my birth. This could have been my theme song!
downhill2400 you mean day
You were born during WWII. That's pretty cool!
Red Magician-_- my living great grandma was born in 41’ too 😔
@@nikn1250 cool! my dead great grandpa was born in 1917 but sadly I never got to meet him, he died when I was too young
I entered this world on Dec. 5, 1941 so I was a pre-war baby...by two days.
My favorite John Williams piece. I loved the film too, even though it was large and overindulgent,
It was supposed to be large and overindulgent 😂
One of my favourite films because of that🎉😂
@@duncanlauder5906….It’s a Mad,Mad World on steroids.
Excellent rendition. Very chrisp ❤
played this twice before, neither as good as this. absolutely outstanding performance!
I might just join army band when I turn 18. I'm doing saxophone right now and I might do that when I get older in here
great ♫♪♫♪♫♪☺ BRAVISSIMO @/bisbis 🎶🎵🎼 great music! a well tuned ensemble that sounds like an organ ! Fabulous basses!
thank you very much GOD love you.
This is my personal favorite of all of John Williams music. Which as you know is saying something.
I agree great wonderful sounds moving March.
I sure would like to share this with some of my students and former students. Please make that available.
There is a clickable share icon that allows you copy a link to a RUclips video-hopefully that fits your needs!
0:52 what hand gesture is that?
Excellent performance!
Very impressed.
It still blows me away just how talented Williams is as a composer. This march would fit perfectly into a Sousa concert and nobody would bat an eye.
Wonderful, I like this, You’re FANTASTIC, Thank you to all for sharing this with us, Love it
BRAVO!!!
👏
Kudos to them for not laughing or smirking, I wouldn't have been able not to..lol
... unless they've never seen the movie, of course?
🤔
What movie
Superb musicianship.
Hope things stay peaceful.
World class playing
Thanks for posting.

Love this theme always wanted to hear it live! Nice Job!
Such a great performance! The overall pace of the music was amazing

"You can hold one block, can't you?"
For the sake of Dumbo? Yes
How many more like him do you think are up there?
well played, but seemed a little bit too fast at times.
The tempo was absolutely identical to the film's End Credits.
My favorite Christmas music.
I like this!
Second 40, John Williams used the same part in celebration song for Star Wars Episode I. Fantastic son anyway
Let me hear yer guns. My guns? Yeah I want to hear what they sound like.
Great job!!!!
Everyone has a part to play. Great work. Sua Sponte’
It would have been neat if they wore the new "WWII" Army Greens Uniform while performing. Unfortunately, they came out a year later (2020).
Movie themes can also be beautiful without a whole bunch of strings
Good job!
Well done!

We’re playing Symphony Center in Chicago in the near future! Thank you for your kind words. Look us up at armyfieldband.com!
@@ArmyFieldBand Thank you so much! I will have to make plans to see that!!! Thanks for the heads up!
The music is way better than the movie.
The film didn't come out until 1949, afaict. First copyright was 1917, and tune came to the U.S. from England.edit: I've never seen film *1941*
"War nerves? Who said war nerves."

"What the hell are you shooting at?"
"Whatever the hell they're shooting at! Sir!"
YEAH !
Amazing arrangement and playing skills, but I find it funny that the theme from a movie that pokes serious fun at the US Army is played by an Army band
We play it because it’s a fantastic march-and we don’t take ourselves *too* seriously to where we can’t have a little fun as well.
Can someone explain why the bànd members are all sergeants? great perofrmance, btw.
try playing it over vehicle parades in works for some reason
The music is the best part of the movie "1941." Trust me.
Cuanto me reí con esta película!.
Genial!
P-40 tomahawk! Me encanta ese avión desde que lo vi en esta película.
Your the beeeeeeeeest
Are they all actually ncos? Some of them looks so young to be e-6&7 and not many awards they’ve got

No cornets in US military bands?
This was very nwice
Alot of StaffSgt s in this Band. 👍😂
That’s right! In U.S. premier bands, you get E-6 (Staff Sgt) right away.
This tune is a parody of the official marchs. Funny to hear it played by the USAFB.
HOOAH!!!
like a well-oiled machine.

0:52 surprise!
Did these people have to go through recruit training?
Yes.
yes. even if you are in the field band, you are an active part of the military and it is possible for you to be deployed at any time.
@@lucyfredman7228 So as a recruit you would just pick field band as your mos?
Yes. Being a military musician is just one of the many career opportunities the army affords. All of these soldiers that you see on our channel go through the same Basic Combat training as everyone else in the army, then they are trained in music
The United States Army Field Band that’s really cool
