Awesome film. The pain of partition, the agony of leaving one’s whole life, one’s roots behind, I find the same as I have read in the book Our Moon Has Blood Clots by Rahul Pandita. A vivid, yet subtle picture of the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits in 1990.
In both cases I find pain, terror, separation and displacement inflicted on human beings by other humans, in the name of religion. And I ask , why?
Faith is to perform puja or prayer in the solitude of one’s privacy. Not to inflict pain on other creations of the same God, Ishwar or Allah, by whatever name we call the Almighty. Isn’t it?
Unless all of us, irrespective of our religion, understand this simple truth that humanity is above everything else, above every man-made divisions, we won’t be Human in its true term.

@@msgstoas Not really. The partition was a joint claim by both the Hindu Mahasabha and Muslim League from 1913. It's very convenient to forget that unless people come on to claim how Shyama Prasad was seeking to have a state for Hindus "to protect them". The sentiment for such was equally strong among the right winged Hindus as it was among right winged Muslims, mostly from very privileged backgrounds who could afford it. There was a very strong anti-partition movement among the Sikhs, Muslims and Hindus who weren't that well off and/or were communist, INC or INA, and generally most of India who were either backing INC and INA, rather than whatever cocktail narrative is spread. Sarat Bose himself had to call to dismiss the hindu movement in Bengal asking for partition, while Subhash Chandra Bose boycotted Mahasabha and League members in his ranks. The "election" was also pretty much faux, with less than 1% of India having universal adult franchise or voting rights. The genocide narratives are also pretty much twisted, as the higher (x5) number of muslim victims are also conveniently ignored, along with the Hindus who died in Rajouri because then the accountability shifts. Somehow, it's a very good example that you'll ignore 20k Hindus if it means 1L muslims aren't counted either. It's a shame.

The various heartbreaking stories of the Partition, not only describes the utmost suffering that one withstood, but also shines a light on the indomitable courage, and indescribable bravery in the face of abject poverty (financial/cultural/mental) and helplessness. Truly, silent steadfastness had, since time immemorial, provided refuge to mourning souls. The background score brings forth the pain in a brilliant manner. The pain, that no one deserved, yet bore all throughout one's life.

In Today's world the content is cheap, comedy is vulgar & moral values are rock bottom. But this movie stands out...The one statement- "I have not lost my vision but have earned my blindness" sums up what artist should work for.Not sure if this movie will gain views but trust it's definitely not the benchmark. All her life, my mother recounted their stories and always ended with the words - I do not wish that experience on my worst enemy...😢😢..and yet today, 75 years later...we seem to be at a similar point in history....but this time it's not the angrez who is drawing lines ....it's we ourselves drawing these lines in our hearts for future generations to suffer...😢😢

this film captures the raw pain that indulged itself in people's lives at that time like suddenly you had to leave behind everything and all that you had known, there was nothing one could do but take only yourself and leave behind the life they have lived and whatever they possessed. it's heart-wrenching to even think of such separation and the partition, nearly impossible to measure and capture the grief felt by people. this film is really deserving of great appreciation for its portrayal, I didn't had enough words to express my feelings after completing this masterpiece which depicted so much in a short while and indeed "chuppi hi zuban hai".

Must say, Royal Stag brings the best stories, with the best actors, with the best cinematography, to life. The 30 encapsulates so many emotions and so impactful that many a times 2.5 hrs movies dont do justice to the content that they want to create. The expressions on Rasika Duggal's face when Naseer Sir was gonna touch the painting had pleading written in big bold letters across it. Naseer Sir - you truly are a Gem, it took maturity on my part to understand what you are trying to convey. I saw your Katha, Mirch Masala, Pestonji, and so many other movies to understand what caliber of actor you. The Khan's, The Kappors, The Kumar's - they all fail in front of you. Their are hammers not actors.

What a poignant short film by Kaushal Oza. It deals with how a family, soon to be displaced due to partition, trades off their glorious past for their survival and safety. Enacted by great & talented Naseeruddin Shah, the dignified protagonist makes one feel the pain of leaving one’s roots behind, and of course the futility of the divisions of the faith. Been lauded and won at various prestigious Film Festivals, its the recommended one.

A brilliant and heart wrenching film. Partition was the most traumatic even in the recent history of India and the pain is still felt to this day. Sadly, the recent rise of religious fundamentalism fomented by the ruling party has once again driven fear in the minority communities. The secular nature of the Indian state which has held together such a diverse country is under attack by the forces of fundamentalism. And unless the people rise up and fight against this evil the country will forever be divided.
