  • OU actually came into this game as the underdog but dominated N.Car on both sides of the ball..David Overstreet will never get his due either as one of the best RB's during the Switzer era.

Best OU wisbone backfield ever was Thomas Lott at QB , Billy Sims and Overstreet as HB, and Kenny King at FB.

Great post, David Overstreet was the best blocking HB of the wishbone era at OU. This game was interesting in the fact that OU dominated a very good NC team (albeit at home) that later dominated a Texas team in the Blue Bonnet Bowl that handled OU that year easily.

i remember watching oklahoma-missouri a couple of years back (thinking before a big 12 title game or a game at missouri) and overstreets son was a starting db for missouri. his son had never seen any film of his father playing football ever so ou officials brought tapes of overstreet and allowed his son to view them.....very classy

with all the great running backs oklahoma has had in the past many probably havent heard of overstreet. i remember when the dolphins drafted him. he didnt like their offer so he played a year in the cfl. dolphins felt he had too many fumbles but afetr a year in the cfl he played a year for miami. game breaking talent and shula had noted that overstreet was going to get alot more carries then of course the tragedy that took his life.

I went to this game when I was a senior in high school, on a campus visit with a friend who eventually enrolled at Oklahoma and was in the Pride band. I remember Oklahoma had over 500 yards rushing and Watts went 0-4 passing on the day.

The Big 8 was the best: So exciting, so fun to watch, so fast. Nebraska is now in the boring/depressing big ten
