Norah paid tribute to Chris Cornell at Detroit’s Fox Theatre with ‘Black Hole Sun.’
Hi Travis and suzy, I remember how much you loved the norah jones video we did in a previous anna mixtape marathon, so let's do another. This is one of those videos where you need the proper backstory and context to really understand just why this is one of the great live performances of the last decade. As you may know, chris cornell tragically passed away after performing with soundgarden in detroit on May 18, 2017. norah jones was scheduled to perform only 5 days later at the very same theater where soundgarden played their last show. Norah and chris were very good friends, and she was devastated, like a lot of other people, that her friend was no longer with us. So as a tribute to her late friend, she played the song "black hole sun" as the final song of her show. You can see the emotion in her voice, and how she is hurting for the loss of her friend. Music can be therapy, and this song has become an iconic remembrance of the power of music to help heal. You may find the video hard to watch because it will hit you really hard. you may even get emotional. But it is such a beautiful song and tribute to an amazing artist we lost way too soon that I wanted to share this song with you. Anna and I absolutely loved this performance, and i think you will too. I thought this would be a great way to wrap up this marathon, and as always, I hope you like the song and video.
