  • Here is my method of upgrading my homelab server and increasing the storage to a raw 56TB! I tried to save money but still can't sacrifice performance.

Good video, doing something similar myself for plex, big box and steam access in the lounge room. Went for the fractal define 7xl case for the build.
Got an idea on the remaining parts but waiting for new stuff to drop and prices to adjust a little.

That’s awesome! That case fits an insane amount of drives!

looks like a very nice upgrade, and love that Fractal case! Already have an old school Dell T3600 I got for cheap for a TrueNAS core NAS/light VM box, but looking to do something similar for a low power dedicated VM build using ProxMox or ESXi

That’s awesome!! I used ESXi before I moved to unraid. Good luck!

Hey man, great video, just have one question, What OS did you install on your server? I'm thinking to make my own server but I'm stuck on that point, cause I'd like to go with something allows me to put my Files(NAS), maybe start up a Minecraft server, Plex, some Docker apps, all that in the easiest way possible, maybe one simple w10 installation would be ok, or maybe more specific with linux, like Ubuntu or something lite, like FreeNas. It would be cool if you could you help me. Thanks.

Hey there, thanks for the comment! I personally use Unraid, which is a baremetal hypervisor that allows me to run my NAS, virtual machines, servers, Plex, Docker etc - it is a paid one time license depending on how many drives you use. I love it because for me, it is dead easy to get everything going, which I really love.
It sounds like Unraid might be the best fit for you - all those things you described could be done quite easily on Unraid - I recommend looking up some videos on the OS and see if it works for you. Hope that helps!

What are you doing with your "old" stuff? You could donate it to me, i'm a poor guy, that are trying to get som new'er stuff. I only got a AMD 3, lab. Trying to get my old stuf renewed. I got som HD external USB's 2 TB (at least 6 years old but works) to SSD drives. I got my files on them (got about 10 of the old). Please write me, if you got something. 😀
