  • A first vlog for us, a glimpse into parts of our day as we work on little projects and chores around the homestead: insulators for electric fencing, greenhouse work, maintenance, a bit of channel planning. Let us know how you feel about this vlog style video and if we should do more (on a sunny day!)

We are an American family living permanently in Ecuador, transforming a mostly-untouched 30 acres of jungle mountain into a working, self-sustainable, off-grid farm. There are a lot of trials, errors, successes, and lessons to be learned along the way. We hope to share it all with you, to tell our story, to inspire, and to hopefully help answer the questions you didn’t
    know to ask.

I have been enjoying your videos. I would be interested in seeing a video on how you decided what to grow/raise and your reason for doing so. For example i grow calorie dense crops that store well through the winter( potatoes, sweet potatoes, winter squash and corn). I grow turnips in the fall/winter as a cover crop, and an edible green. As a bonus it attracts deer that i can harvest for the protein. How are things different for you in your climate. What is your philosophy on growing your own food.

Thanks for all your awesome videos.
I was wondering if you can comment, about how you found the property? 🙏

      Glad you enjoy!
We found ours on Facebook Marketplace. There aren't a lot of online places to look for property here, and in-person search can be time consuming if you don't know the exact location you want to be. Marketplace is a good start! We did a video on finding and buying a property in EC if you haven't seen it : ruclips.net/video/p2RDCLiGxNI/видео.html

I would love to know what foods / herbs you are growing in the veggie patch. What is your bug / garden pest situation like there? My outside fruit crops get swarmed every year in my garden.

That's on the our video list, actually - what we're growing (trying to grow). Pest/bug situation sucks, to be honest. Grasshoppers eat everything, and ants are a big problem. We've been using the chickens and ducks in the garden (with fences around each bed) and that has almost eliminated the bug issues. However, the ducks now decided green bean plants are delicious and they'll fight to get to them...so...there's that! Ants are still a struggle for fruit trees.
