Great stuff and a good location for 6201. I'm usually half way up the fell on the other side with my back to the sun (and rain). 5 mins isn't bad the "logs" usually takes that and coal trains take 10! Good work, anyway, and well done for a lengthy drive! I've subscribed, BTW.
Thanks for your comment mate and glad you enjoyed. You would normally expect a loco like 6201 to romp up Ais Gill, especially with a pretty light train by comparison to the 1000 tonnes plus of freight workings. I suppose it just shows the difference poor quality coal can make...Graham
Great video, thanks. A patch of poor coal just when you need it most to be good quality meant she was struggling for steam on the last part of the climb. She stormed up Wilpshire later on.
Thanks for your comment David and glad you enjoyed. Having also seen 46233 struggle up Shap in the past on poor coal but then storm up Beattock with a better batch just hours later, it just shows the difference good quality coal can make to the performance of any loco, but it always seems to be more noticeable with the more powerful classes. Certainly I was expecting 6201 to be going far faster than it was...Graham
More a steady climb with wet rails than a struggle Graham, no need to flog the engine unnecessarily I would say .Great shots by the way.Going by reports 6201 had problems steaming yesterday so that would explain the slow climb perhaps.
Thanks for your comment Steve and glad you enjoyed. 6201 was certainly going far slower than I expected it to and did look short of steam from where I was stood. That said, having seen 46233 struggle up Shap with poor coal, it just shows the difference good quality coal can make to a performance...Graham
@@steamdriver12 I was on the train, and it was quite noticable that the overall sound from the loco was very different on ALL the steeper parts of the S&C compared with Shap earlier in the day, a pronounced "chuff" and steam "burst" on each stroke from what looked like the outside left cylinder.
Great video nice to see,Thanks Graham
