What was your favorite part during the different pump tests?

The wow that’s pretty good on the $200 diy pump lol. I narrowed it down to water fall pump $1000 and water fountain pump $200.

My favorite was your reaction when the water hit the ceiling. Very interesting information. Really impressed by the smaller energy used also. I also assume that the typical sump pump is louder than Aquascapes too. Great video Pro Ed!

I like the comparison but comparing with the similar purposed cheap pumps off Amazon would be a better way to prove that the $1000 pump is worth the extra money.

Could you not place a mesh net around the intakes of these filters, keeping them from sucking up debris?

I didn’t see any comparable options that would push high volumes of water,
They only had smaller statuary pumps…..

The depot has had pond supplies and kits for decades. I bought my stuff there when I built water features.

I used the Home Depot Sub Pump by placing it in a milk crate and wrapping the milk crate with a screen. I also have the pump floating just under the fountainhead so it does not suck up anything from the bottom..

I love your educational videos and demonstrations ED. Always lots of science and experience to learn from. I do wonder why you are stating the pond pro pump is $1000. Neither the SLD or the Aquasurge are over $600. Maybe you are referring to an installed price but the actual over the counter price makes your cost analysis that much more compelling. Keep up the good work

I think you left out that the 5000-9000 is also rated for 1000W at max flow, so similar to the sump pump. It's still the better pump out of the three for big ponds though if you put it in a skimmer.

If you see voltage drop, you better check your electric instalation something isn't well dimensioned.
The debris test is a first for me, very important. I think that were the cheap pumps become reality expensive.
Love to see a green filamentous algae test also

Isn’t choking down the flow hurt the pump? With a magnetic drive rotor I would think choking it down would take away from the total GPH and be harmful to the pump overall. With a direct drive pump this obviously wouldn’t be an issue.

Ed, does this week's winner come in multiple sizes? Something more appropriate for a 150 to 180 gallon pond? Or is it a one trick pony?

There's a lot to conciser. Initial cost of the pump. Pay more initially or spread out the extra cost over a year.
Second, building a pre filter around the diy pump and simply not putting the pump on the floor but building a stand that keeps it off the floor.
So buy you not bringing all that up, it's not an accurate assessment of the situation. Imho
But, I personally love what you do, I just think you should put out the information all the way to it's last conclusion instead of saying why is not good.
Some people may want a pond and not initially have lot's of money. So information on what would be the fix for the cheaper pump would help some.
Just thinking to myself as i watch the video.

In defense of the cheaper pumps, they are less expensive because they are made of lower quality parts for intermittent service like pumping water out of a sump or basement. But your point is right on, buy the right equipment for the job at hand. For example, don't buy a cheaper Honda Ridgeline when you really need a 3/4 ton pickup truck. Don't buy a sump pump to activate a water feature.

Who knew different pumps are rated for different pressures, gph, and applications..........
Ed gets amazon has like 1,000 different pond pumps right and pretty much anyone buying a pond pump for a diy pond will end up getting one off of amazon not buying a sump pump at HD.
