thankyou for this. because its daunting to see hardly any paper from our paper pads or digitals used in journals by the most popular channels. every tutorial or flip thru has graph paper and ledger paper and paper bags and cello bags and coffee died or tea stained papers and every page has to crinkle or crunch and be a different texture ( they all have to look alike and be coffee died but each has to have different texture) like it's not a junk journal if you dont at least have that variety and then you have to have tickets and stamps and post cards and time cards and bingo cards and tags, and you have to have stamps and die cut edges and lace, and you have to have a fabric ruffle and a fabric flip and an envelope and multiple pockets stuffed with a bunch of journaling cards and tags and you gotta clip on some fabric clusters with an altered paper clip, and you have to have belly band and a hermalinda flip tag and a Rita Donnelly flip and a tip in...and every page and every edge has to be grunged or it's not a junk journal! I've decided I have to make pockets and envelopes and tags and tucks and clusters and watch a million tutorials before I can even start my first journal! I hate the grunge look so maybe I dont like junk journals? no..because I see beautiful journals that are anything but grungy and they are called junk journals. so then you have to decide what your likes or your niche or style is, but maybe that doesnt matter, maybe I need to make a grungy journal and coffee stain every envelope and ledger paper or notebook paper in it because that's what sells. I want to do farm house journals and farm recipe journals. farm house is all the rage, why not farmhouse journals? but my daughter thinks no one will buy them and I should make what I know sells. it's all so overwhelming so I've just been collaging with paper (, oh yea you gotta go out and get some old books and some flower books and butterfly and bird books and get some music paper and some lace and a paper cutter ) so I've just been paper collaging and with herbs and flowers to be neutral making envelopes with book pages and fabric and lace on burlap fabric clusters. then after I made my tags I realized I had to make more tags, some bigger ones and some smaller ones to accommodate the pockets and envelopes I had already made. I really needed this video tonight. i have ephemera made and covers made and books gutted and reinforced and ready to be covered and I look for potential in everything from a poptarts box to a soggy tea bag. I just want to use my pretty paper pads! I want to stuff tucks with seed packets and tea bags and grocery lists and pretty cards. not bingo cards or time cards. so thankyou! thankyou for your daily videos. for all of your tutorials and advice. and for telling me it's ok to use my pretty paper pads and maybe just plain or lined paper. and reminding me I don't have to have a printer to get the diggy kits, that i dont have to have 20 different pages with 20 different textures( but they all have to be coffee died and the edges darkened and grungedy I threw away books that were damaged in flood waters. should've kept them! ,.
So fun to read your comment. All this stuff has been floating around in my mind for several weeks, and I have watched many "expert" tutes on the pamphlet stitch, unique pockets, flaps and flips, making covers and signatures, and getting overwhelmed. Come to think of it, I don't want Tim Holtz Bingo cards in my JJ either. I bought a few packages of his ephemera and have never used it. I go through the stuff and never find much that I want to add to a homemade card, for instance. I have been feeling like I NEED music and ledger paper in between my digitals. Or it is not an official JUNK journal. I am going to follow my intuition as I decide what goes inside. It has worked for me so far.
Thank you for this video. Now I understand that a simple cardstock (110 LB.) makes a simple cover!! It took me so long to get started on the cover alone! I wasn’t sure what material to use that will be strong and heavy enough. It helped a lot that you mentioned the weight of the paper. Good to know also that 28 LB. copy papers are perfect to create the signature pages. Gracie! MRS.M
Got my Digital Curip butterflies yesterday as luck would have it - so many winged delights for free. Love this video - a great place for newbies to begin or for seasoned journalers to take a step back and simplify their thinking. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks, I needed this! I am new to JJ and have been collecting some stuff, but don't feel I have enough paper variety yet. I am, therefore, afraid to jump in and make my first journal.
Did you ever post the finished journal for this?? My sister is just getting into it! And she is at that stage where she is really overthinking it! And she won’t listen to me!!! So I’m sending her links while she is quarantined in the house!!! So she has apparently downloaded some digital kits, and I even sent her some already coffee dyed papers and a nice box of extras I had lace ribbon whatever I could add to help her! But she is totally overthinking it! So this is perfect for her I sent her the link already! Lol she wants to see the finished journal I actually wouldn’t mind as well just Bc I love watching and learning more as well!
I have noticed that there are a lot of sizes of junk journals, travelers etc. So this is a junk journal style signature for a regular journal. Is that right
Can I just ask, which printer do you use. I would like to purchase some printables, but my printer runs out of ink very quickly. It is a pain to change those so often, and it gets very pricey. How do you manage to print so much? how much do you spend every month on the inks, if I can ask? Sometimes this journaling thing looks like imposible for me.
Hi! Great question that I would love to answer. I use the Epson EcoTank & buy refill ink off of Ebay. I can print hundreds & hundreds of pages for less than $20.

Are there really RUclipsrs out there forcing you to use paper bags and Tim Holtz tickets in your journals against your will?
Old video, but I'm new to junk journaling so the content is still relevant. Thank you for this!! 🥰❤️👍

THANKS FOR SHARING LOVE IT
Thank you Linsey
Thank you very much for this video!!
What paper did u print on? Also what printer did u use?
I don't remember as this is an old video. However, I suggest 24-28 lb paper and an Epson EcoTank or an HP instant Ink printer.
About the 28 lb paper… is that just ordinary printing paper? 80gsm? In Australia we use gsm.
It's thicker than regular copy paper. It's like a presentation paper weight.
@@LindseyZenor Thank you 🙂

For a 9x6

Thank you for your answer. I need to check new printer then, otherwise I have to forget about nice prints and nice journals :) Thanks again.
What type paper did you print on?
28 lb white paper
