Man this is my first time watching a explainer style geek pub video and I keep thinking it's an 8 bit guy video. These brothers really have a lot of speaking style in common.
I got that impression too when I discovered this channel, but as a person living in another country and whose mother tongue is of course not English, I wasn't sure if that was just how Texans from the area the Murrays live in sound like. Glad I got it right despite my foreign ear!
I really enjoyed the fact that you went very in depth to explain each process. I didn’t know what a server ladder or j bolts were or how they were used. Thanks and its looking great!!
Dang, I wish I would have known you were needing a Full Rack and some ladder rack. We are doing some renovations at my office and I could have given you that stuff for free. I'm here in the DFW area too so not far from you. I could have brought it to you. Next time you need any equipment like that shoot me a message.
Great video Mike! Wow, The New Geek Pub building is coming along great! I'm looking forward to all the Projects and other content you bring in the future!
This is what you call a Man Cave! The place is looking awesome. Always hard putting in new stuff on top of previous owners stuff, more difficult than a totally blank canvas. Great video.
Depending where you are there is CPC in Preston Lancashire, not quite as much as that on display but they have an argos style operation where you can go and pick stuff up from a trade counter. There is also Scan in Bolton if you are after more consumer grade stuff.
Great video... Just subbed. If you're building your set, bear in mind that mad triangle patterns on the wall behind you can be heavily distracting to the viewer! 😜 Greetings from Ireland!
Great setup. Especially the storage and server rack. But when you renew all the network wiring, why not into the server rack where the switch is located? Now you make a mess with extra patch cables fron the panel to the switch. Also, I would have put the ladder the other way around and put the cable very exact in place to make it look perfect. However, looked like some work for all the cameras and the WiFi. Thumps up.
Because I may wind up with more than one rack and would then have the same problem rack to rack. What do you mean put the ladder "the other way around"?
@@TheGeekPub okay. I See, more than one rack. If you place the racks next to each other, there is no problem. But if a second rack is at the other wall, you are right.
This tiny building has more IT than some small countries.😂 (Love how you tried to justify why you need it all... but we all know you just love networks and computers 😉) Can’t wait to see the next video!!
Depending on how much cable is up in the ceiling, etc. it's worth saving it to sell to a metal recycling place. Not sure about current prices, but I was getting close to $1/pound for telco cable as of a few years ago.
I started watching the 8-Bit guy a while ago, and have gone through most of his videos, and some that interest me, more than once. I remeber a video where David Murray mentioned that he had a brother, and he may even have cameoed in one, but I had no idea that @TheGeekPub was David's brother. He is so much more talented, better looking and interesting than his brother.
So many questions: Where are all the Ethernet cables that are not used for Wi-Fi access points going? Do you even use the already built-in Ethernet ports in the walls? How will the workstations be connected to the server room? How can the remote access be happening?
I doubt they will need to replace that 42U or 48U cabinet. And since it is not a high density DC install, then doubt they will ever consume that much U space. Based on what is shown and considering the patch panel is not mounted in the cabinet, they could easily get away with a half height cabinet. The ladder rack extension appears to be well secured to the main ladder rack and should easily support the amount of copper secured to it. Sides, if they were to replace the cabinet, all the ran cables would most likely get back pulled.
I have a client that has Spectrum Business internet & phone. They have a block of static IPs and aren't required to use Spectrum's modem. Through troubleshooting phone calls and technician visits, Spectrum has never complained. Maybe I misunderstood what you meant by "equipment"... that is a possibility.
I want to concur with the above statement that spectrum can put their modem in pass-through mode and you can get rid of their wireless router device. I did this about a month ago at my city's community center. It takes about a 10 minute call for them to reprovision the modem and you're good to go. Sometimes they require that you get a specific modem from them. I believe the one that supports pass through is the Arris brand. Sometimes when the technician doesn't have that on their truck they will give you a two box solution which is what you have now. Oh in just a tip sometimes, their phone techs well accidentally reprovision the wireless router instead of your modem so be sure to specify what you want exactly when you call.
Hi, I see you added a battery pack for that UPS. May I ask what model you used? I am building out some servers, however a single or couple UPS does not last more than 20m. That battery pack interests me, Thank you- Guy from the YT comments
I covered that in the video. But basically the cables were already run inside the wall and it would have been a nightmare to relocate. Additionally we were afraid they wouldn't be long enough anyway once we got them out.
Ditto. I think the cybertruck looks goofy, so it will be interesting to hear if it *IS* goofy. The most unique one I've seen announced recently is the Canoo.
I’m not sure how Texas building codes work, but I have a few things to point out. The city inspector will probably not allow that white “BC” type fire extinguisher, since it’s most likely required to be a standard ABC red type. Also, Is the building big enough to require a fire alarm system?
Could of swarn David was narrating the video for like 5 minutes streight but then I noticed a bit difference in the voice lol. Also, I've worked with Spectrum/Charter for years (not as an employee) and never ran into having to use their crappy router if your static, just go from the modem to your pFSense, if they say otherwise, their wrong (Need to talk with another rep) and should replace the modem with one that can provision to a static WAN output.

7:57 Sir, Great video. Why you using ubiquity instead of other vendor like Aruba, Cisco,Huawei, etc?
Pretty. I like Ubiquity routers, but I didn't buy into their whole product line. I tended towards Asus access points. It does look nice, though.
