Two of the greatest improvisers in baroque-style meet in Groningen. That can't be a coincidence! 😉 Beautiful video. It would be wonderful if you could ever give a duo-improvisation concert with Sietze!

VERY interesting comment by Sietze on why the organ (with relatively many stops for such a building), is voiced so powerfully, that (large) congregations of the time sang equally powerfully!

As a clergyman/choirmaster I fully appreciate this remark. Also, at 80, and with our churches here in USA still closed, I sorely miss the majestic music of the church, and deeply appreciate these demonstrations and hymns-of-the-day, with organ improvisations which so wonderfully sustain my faith in these troubled times. Profound thanks for sharing these uplifting videos and your remarkable talent !!!

I remember reading on a World Record Club sleeve in the '60s that the magnificence of the great organs of Alkmaar and Haarlem were the result of a competitive spirit between the two municipalities! Such an attitude all over the Netherlands would have been a very congenial one for organ builders, especially the best ones!

Loved the organ. Appreciated your improvisations. The BWV 550 was great. A little organ that sounds like a big boy. Has the power and the clarity to keep up to a nice big prelude by the Old Master. Hoping you recorded the traditional fugue on the Hinz as well! I always enjoy your videos Balint. Thanks for making them and sharing!

Stunning playing, as always. And wonderful demonstration. Just as a point of taste: does anyone really actually "like" the sound of these quirky 18th Century Dutch curiosity-boxes? The ensemble sounds like a combination of dentist drills, lawn-mowers, kazoos, and down-shifting 18 wheelers. Imagine having to listen to this every single week in some carpeted church. LOL!

Such a magical moment when Sietze starts playing on full organ - he's correct, what a beautiful, rugged sound! Hopefully this doesn't get smoothed over after the restoration as some (well-meaningly) over-restored organs can be.
