To be honest, this is the best tutorial about how to throw lead hooks on the heavy bag with correct fist position I can find on RUclips ! very useful and thanks Carlo !!!
Carlo- I just discovered your channel. Your instructional videos are great! Please do more of them. I posted a question on your Right Cross video that I hope you will answer. Thanks!
Love all the content on your channel man. Keep up the great work. Just ordered a pair of Cleto Reyes hook and loop training gloves for my bag workout. Can’t wait to try em out. Take care~ Jeff
@@csquaredboxing hah..actually i am well trained..and trained to pivoting..but i have seen many trainers suggest not to pivot..i see sometimes canelo and other boxer dont pivot of there led foot..and which i have read pivoting is just an indicator about turning the hips..
@@bsharaboata7861 it is my understanding that rotating the foot is just a muscle memory trick to make sure you always rotate your hips, anotherwards as long as you are rotating your hips pivoting is not necessary
Hey Carlo! I got a pair of 14oz. Twins Specials a lil while ago, they a bit snug breaking em in and the index knuckle off my lead-hand takes painful crushing off everythung until I'm either slapping with an open mit, trying to sneak my hand out the back of it, or just go completely Gun-shy.. waited couple days and switched jelly-padded wraps but I'm still feelin' it.. Any suggestions? Also - sound advice on 'scraping' the hooks.. I like to imagine I'm 'digging little scoops' outta the front of the bag
Great tutorial . That one two left to the liver is one of my favourite combos .I think you may have hit on it in an earlier clip but do you ever get pain in your elbow due to throwing left hooks ? If so what do you do to deal with it . Many of the boxers i train with seem to have this problem including myself , kind of like a tennis elbow i guess .
A good way to help this is to rotate your hand over 180 degrees to where your fingers are pointing to the floor, press your hand to a wall with a straight arm and lean all your weight into it so you stretch out the wrist tendons and bicep. Also use a resistance band to stretch your arm in a position like somebody has your arm in a lock up behind your back. Where your stretching out your shoulder and deltoid. As a warm up kneel down and reverse your hands to point your fingers back at the knees, stretch out the wrists with straight arms, similar to the first exercise but your using both hands. Get into a push position if you can with hands reversed.
Thanks man yes I’ve had tendinitis in my left elbow and use ice to reduce swelling as well as use heavy bags that are softer fill as the denser bags cause more stress to your joints
@@csquaredboxing Elbow pain often comes from the finger flexors and forearm muscle. Work on wrist and finger flexibility and strengthening, I get it also when I overdo the lead hook. I use hand grippers daily and that hand to the wall stretch, it is almost miraculous how well that works. Also stretch out the arms and shoulders, even just hanging with your own bodyweight, which stretches and is awesome for grip strength. The yoga asana they call the 'table' is also a great exercise for both wrists and shoulders. Hands facing backwards is best.
@@OsmiumFist Thanks for heads up , i tried the 180 fingers down & i could feel it working on the exact point where the tendon meets the elbow joint . Training tomorrow morning so i'll try both methods . Thanks again , much appreciated .
I am not a friend of the thumb-up hook, it tends to increase the ‘slappiness’ of the hook, by taking it around the side of the head too much. For short and mid range thumb-up is fine. For long range I use a palm-down hook with a little down angle. Always train this punch long and target it low on the face. Palm-down hooks are way more powerful especially at longer range (if you are coached right - which is certainly not a given).
When fighting bare knuckles it can be better to not turn your hand all the way over but to hit at a 45 degree angle. This way you always connect with the first two knuckles. My heavy bag isn't super hard so I often use a pair of heavy fishing gloves or just go bare knuckles so I know I'm hitting correctly. I see a lot of people who do boxing for fitness, punching in a way they'll break their hands or thumbs if they had to ever hit anybody in a real fight or self defense situation.
Guys, should i use 16oz glove for training? For heavy bag and pad work. Thanks. Im into muaythai just 3 months. And want to upgrade my gloves. Im currently using cheap 40usd 12oz gloves. Thanks,
hey Carlo, no disrespect intended, but you should definitely get into coaching, Fucker. excellent demonstration of technique and explanation of motive. Nice video
*Laces towards your faces, Youngblood. I had 46 fights in 90's. No disrespect intended. Im just giving you proper advice. You're gonna shorten your career with disabling career-ending hand-wrist injuries, otherwise. I trained with some big punchers like Julian Jackson, and Roberto Duran.*

each to their own i guess. Some people like GGG love to twist their hand when throwing their left hook
Good info, I guess it depends on the distance from your opponent, your personal feel with your wrist, and what your ultimately most comfortable with
Perfect !!

16 is a good general rule of thumb as you can use it for bag pad and sparring work
I don't why but when I do palm down my hooks is way better technique wise and when I do palm in I always kinda strain my shoulder a little
I clicked on this cause im a fan of your videos but i think i was going to learn anything new fron this one but i was wrong
