I had the honor of serving onboard this beast 2007 and 2008 (prep for Decommission). Sailed her from Yokosuka, Japan to Bremerton Washington. Combat Systems Dept. Radio room. It was sad to see her go. I worked with a very good crew that will have life long memories. Life on this ship was a challenge, but one that was well worth it in the end. Sayounara. Kitty Hawk. May your memories live forever!!!!
I've finally found this video again! 10 years and i finally found it When i was younger, for some reason I loved this video and was my favourite on RUclips and forgot what the video was called and I finally found it!
My dad’s pride and joy during his 30 years of Navy service from WWII, Korea and Viet Nam. I just conditioned his VF 213 Black Lions bomber jacket. He cherished it until he passed at 94 years of age. This carrier and those on board served our country well and deserve a peaceful rest.
Great video, former "Hawk" sailor 1971-1973 A-Div, EA04. WestPac 71-72 Vietnam, Overhaul @ Hunters Point,Ca. she was up graded to NDS04 from black oil and up dated to support the (then new) F-14 Tomcat. The flight deck was modified with larger JBDs on Cat 1 &2 and angling the #1 Elevator. Lastly she was designated CV (Carrier Multi-Mission) from CVA (Carrier Attack) In my heart she will always be the best of the best. X-Kitty Hawk is now mothballed at NISF Bremerton,WA.
I was 1st onboard Her in November of 85 while She was Deployed on a West Pac!,She was in The Indian Ocean and I landed by a Ch-47 Chinook Chopper coming over from USS Shasta AE 33,right before The Shasta pulled along Her Starboard Beam for a Underway Refueling Replenisment!,It was my 1st Time on an Aircraft Carrier, and I Remember watching The Refueling Replenishment from the Hangar Bay!,and as I stared out at The Shasta,Which I just came from,I was Amazed how Small She looked next To The Battle Cat!,or The Shitty Kitty as She was Called by Some!,I Remember Going Up to Vulcher's Row Right up above The Bridge,or PilotHouse to Some,The Following Night, and Watching F-14 Tomcat's Blast Off with Full Afterburners into a Night Sky that was all a Glow by a Full Moon!,and as The Moon's Glow Reflected off of The Surface of The Indian Ocean that Particular Night,The Sea was as Smooth as Glass!,all awhile The Kitty Hawk's Bow Knifed Her Way Through that Glass,All Ahead Full !!!,I Close my Eyes and I can feel The Heat hit my Face even that High Up from The Flight Deck!!!,and I'm Right Back There in that Moment as a 18 Year Old Seamans Apprentice E2,and as I'm Writing This,The Old Battle Cat is Underway for One Last Time, but not under Her Own Power,She's Presently being Towed to Her Demise,Which will Unfortunately in my opinion Take Place on a Texas Ship Breaking Beach!,at the time of me writing this She's Probably getting ready to Transit The Straights of Magellan!,Her being Broken Up on a Texas Beach is not in My Mind a Very Honorable Way to End Her Many Faithful and Honorable Years of Service to Our Nation!,It's a Damm Shame She Couldn't have Become a Floating Museum somewhere in America!!!,and If Not that,They Could Have Put Her to Rest in Davey Jones Locker!,Maybe off of The Florida Coast or California or Maybe Even Hawaii where She could have become an Artificial Reef!!!,She Served Her Many Sailors and Marines Well for Her Entire Life, and She will Not Be Forgotten by This Boatswain!!!,Fairwell Lady!!!
Luis you did a great job! If there was ever a video to pay tribute to the Hawk, I can't think of a better one than this! I served on board her from 82-86.
I was there, I remembered our ship escort after that incident increased by like a hundred fold! I was also there when that russian plane flew over us, good times.
Luis... This is Rick's Dad... You guys have truly become the expression of commitment, courage, and excellence! Awesome video! Thanks for puttin' this together to bring him a little closer to home! We can all truly appreciate your and his position! Hope this finds you well! Bring 'em all home SAFE! Hope and Faith in ACTION! 3w'sdothftfiredotcom
I have vivid memories of this Mighty Boat while she sat pretty in Yokosuka, to all the 3rd Deck Warriors with their Jspot cards, that only dressed up on fridays yall probly rich now I miss Bamiyans, I miss the lock downs I miss the base galley by the bowling alley I miss shore patrol in the Honch and the Chu hi stand by Shiori station got dam So many good times and you can't ever forget HOTEL GODESS they always look at you funny when you walk in with 2 girls and they say YOU PAY EXTRA, also if you get there late, say 2200 you can just pay for the room till 1100 better than only getting 3hours for the same price. 2003-2007 AIR SALUTE!... RIP SHITTY KITTY 2009
USS Kitty Hawk and CVW-5 was the best team in the entire US Navy, hell even the military if you ask me. When the Hawk was replaced by the GeeDub it was a struggle.
FANTASTIC video,......the music is ace and a bit haunting,..........shame the music was used in a lot of vids ive viewed of the ATTACKS on the WORLD TRADE CENTRE, i like it and i like this vid!
When flight operations are going on, does anyone do head counts of crew on the flight line? I remember the Marine falling off ship in the Med sea in 1989 or 1990, i think he survived for several days before they found him.
Good point Ben we would look up to see if it was one COD or two. If it was two good chance it might have mail. I was a mail orderly for my division. When mail call was announced I became a morale booster with your help.
Everyone here hates me because I'm 1994-1999. Damn near five full years of living on a ship and hating life. It was a very hard life.....these days single sailors get a place to live??? WOW.
Za ch my uncle was an E4 on the kitty hawk from 84 to 87 he was an electron mate I have his cruise books from the kitty hawk from 84 and 87 he also gave me his photos from the carrier. And he supports me on being a naval aviator
I might know your uncle since I also worked in engineering. Being a naval aviator is the best of the best. Imagine landing an aircraft at night on an aircraft carrier about 1,000 feet long. The best in the fleet. Good luck!
