Gonna need to really binge through all of your videos and then keep up with the new stuff coming out same as with Tanner's channel. Guys like you are what makes RUclips worthwhile.

    I forgot to mention that the pump is not able to be serviced & if it breaks id have to tare down the terrarium to replace it, keep this in mind if you’re gonna try this yourself. Nevertheless I love how this terrarium turned out! Hope you enjoy the video:)

      Hello my friend.
      Great build 👏
      However.....😮
      The Pump rating is 220-240 volts. You rejoined the wires by twisting and taping. NO NO NO NO.
      You've educated your viewers to believe that's acceptable and in reality could be very dangerous. Risk of fire and electric shock. You should never endorse this as an acceptable way to make 240 volt cable joints. Look online for Wago Connectors. You simply offer your stripped ends into the connector and shut the lever for a tight safe 240v connection.
      Simple and easy and SAFE.
      Not ranting... just thinking how many young folk will assume twisting 240v wires together is safe. It isn't. It can be deadly.
      Get yourself a couple of Wago Connectors and redo your joint... please. 🤔🙂👍
      Edit: ps. If its a 12 volt low voltage supply you'd get away with it... but not 240v.
      Even with 12v cable you can get some tidy little snap button connectors for a tidy permanent connection.

      240v electricity is deadly. You do not twist them together and tape them. Not only would you risk your own safety you could kill someone else. This is why I commented. The video can kill someone. My comment can save someone's life.
      Not a Nerd thing in my book.
      Hope that helps. 👍

    Excellent looking terrarium!
    A suggestion for the next time you use a pump: Since it has a UK plug you can easily remove the plug to thread the wire through any small holes, and then replace it afterwards. Twisting mains wire and wrapping it in insulation tape is probably fine for low power items but would be a fire hazard for something that draws more power.

    • @TerrariumDesigns
      @TerrariumDesigns  Год назад +1

      This is a very good point! Thanks for the tip & I’ll definitely do that in the future😃

    • @DUIofPhysics
      @DUIofPhysics Год назад

      Frankly it's a firehazard in either situation and should NEVER be done. Electrical tape does degrade over time, and if the lead gets pulled a few times it could easily pull into a position where it either shorts, or creates a high resistance that heads up and causes a fire. Electrical work really shouldn't be done by anyone who doesn't have suitable education / training in electrical work. IF YOU MUST insist on doing it yourself, use the correct tools, look at a guide from someone who knows what they are doing. Use a terminal block and enclosure, or a product specifically for joining mains leads safely. This is how people die, folk!

    I've never understood why everyone puts the pump inside the tank. If something happens to the pump, you are forced to take apart the entire thing to get to it. If you used an external pump, you could just run a pickup tube into the same hole you used for the electric wire. Then, when the pump fails, it's easy to replace or service it.

    I would only add a recommendation for people who know how to solder to do so in the part where the wire is spliced and rejoined. It'll make the connection more durable, protect the copper from air, moisture, and being affected by skin oils from twisting the wires together.
    Other than that, it's quite safe to just twist the wires without soldering, since these water pumps are very low power.

    It’s worth noting that you can also remove the plug off of the pump and rewire that instead, providing it’s actually possible depending on plug type. Easily done with a U.K. plug fortunately enough. If it’s a sealed U.K. plug, then you can buy a non sealed one for very cheap and attach that. If it’s non sealed to begin with then just unscrew it and then reassemble, no cutting or wire stripping necessary.
