Freak Out! That album is still at the very top of my all time favorite albums, there is nothing like it or even comes close to it. I still get goose bumps every time I listen to it. Fantastic. I use to have a vinyl copy but the cover was in tatters by the time I finished with it. I had most of Zappa's catalog on vinyl and now have them on CD. It is surprising how much Zappa vinyl is still around here in NZ although I haven't seen Freak Out for a while. A great score.
+Roddus1000 Hey mate! Yeah its a special kind of album for sure. And youre right. I see Zappa records all over the place but inever really pay that much attention. But with Freak Out i couldnt resist. I mean how could i pass up an almost 50 year old record that looked so good. Ill be on the look out for more from now on. Cheers man - K
Thanks for the shout out bro. Really glad you enjoyed the video. I really need to grab that hingus lp! I keep sleeping on it though i have had it digitally for years. Great spiritual jazz trio of lp's. Some of my core music personally. My favorite style of jazz afrocentric spiritual modal stuff is the sweet spot of my soul. Never pulled the trigger on alquin maybe i should..definitely not a crazy priced lp. Nice video mate..much love chris
+johncoltrane68 Of course man! And thank you for your vid. I loved it. So many of the records you showed are intriguing to me. I plan on revisiting it over the next few days. Spiritual Jazz is certainly one of my favourite styles of music. Long before i knew what the genre was called, i used to love the real 'journey' music of some of the late sixties, early seventies Jazz combos with the extended solos. Such great music and i am slowly building my Spiritual Jazz section on the shelves. Alquin is cool, not essential but certainly worth the small price tag. I enjoyed it! Peace man. Hope all is well where you are! - K
Thanks you for buying and talking about my album! Sven Grünberg looks very interesting. That's a good Robert Wyatt album. Ptah, the El Daoud is fantastic! Great stuff! Cheers /Anders
+AndersInStockholm My pleasure Anders. Well deserved man. Such a great album you have put together here. I cant wait to buy the new release. The Sven Grunberg is great. If you find it, just take a chance. Its a great listen. Cheers - Khristian
Hi Kristain, That was a really nice shout out you did for our fellow VC members. I am just happy that you are enjoying yourself. I am also happy that the VC has been blessed with another member who truly appreciates music and is sharing it with us. You have turned me onto some superb vinyl/artists and I really have enjoyed your channel. So thanks for that. That Beefheart album was somewhat of a staple in the VC early on. I struggled with it at first and now I have since learned to appreciate the album. >Good to see the Alice Coltrane albums. I will have a copy of ' Ptah The El Daoud' soon. I really only know 'Satchidananda' from listening to it here on YT. Just a monster record. Really nice Sanders 'Tauhid'. Fantastic new finds Khristian. Thanks a million for sharing these with us. Talk to you soon and thank again for the shout-out~ Rob/Boston
+Paneeks1960 Hey Rob! Thanks a bunch man. For takin the time out to watch the vids and also for taking the time out to give such thoughtful and encouraging feedback to everyone. Youre a true champion of the VC and im looking very much forward to sharing some more music with you mate! Take care and all the bast. Khristian
Colonel Rick James Buttery here, reporting for duty. We've both just watched your video and we enjoyed this video over a smashing bowl of pasta. You look very relaxed and you showed some fascinating records. Signing off - The Brunswick VC Chapter.
+Anthony Camplone Hey dudes. Thanks for taking the time out to watch a bozo like me showing records. Im relaxed coz i pretty much just got out of bed and put this together this morning. So grateful for school holidays...haha! Cheers dudes. Enjoy your pasta K
Thanks for the shout! Great having you on board. Enjoy that Anders joint, I'm gonna order the latest release on his label this week. Great Sylvian, I never considered Japan to be a "pop" group - they just happened to be have a sound that fell in sync with the in vogue taste for a short period of time. For example, their biggest hit "Ghosts" had no real chorus and no rhythm or percussion. It was a very brave arty track. I believe that they became popular mostly due to their looks. I did a video on Sylvian/Japan that may be of interest to you. Really dig many of Beefheart's works especially TMR and Mirror man - nice find. The Grunberg I must check - looks mental!! Interesting Wyatt- never seen it before. Now that I've boxed off the Ash Ra Tempel debut, that Ptah el D is my next prospective big purchase. Great vid, as usual!
+Ben Costello Hey Ben. Thanks again mate! Yeah i tend to agree with you on the Japan thing. I recognise they're not really 'Pop' per se', but they certainly influenced pop around the time and yes, what they produced early on dictated what pop became for awhile. Art music is always difficult to describe for me. Ill definitely check out your vid on Sylvian. The Grunberg is a great listen if you come across it, its well worth the time. But man, the Wyatt album...dot hesitate. Its a beautiful release with such awesome renditions of some great songs. Its just the way he does things. The man is a true artist. I love him. Oh my gosh! The Ash Ra Tempel is a massive purchase man. I will do it oone of these days but it will take some serious disciplined saving on my part and no other record purchases for the month for me to pull that baby home. The Coltrane record...You wont regret it!! Cheers mate. Always good chatting. I hope youre well. Peace - Khristian
Hey Khristian, thanks for the shout out. Enjoy watching your videos, interesting selections. Estonia is pretty close indeed. I'm familiar with that Hingus record as it's on Melodiya, but haven't seen it in the crates yet. I wonder what other acts you've got from their catalog. I've got a few. Very intrigued by that Mark Fry record. -Birutė
+juodaavis Hey Birutė, No problems and thanks heaps for watching the vids. The Hingus is great and is one i didn't know much about beforehand but i like it very much. Melodiya is such a diverse label, as you know, covering such a vast expanse of artists and sounds. There was a time back a year or so ago where I was really into some of Progressive Rock bands from the Soviet Union nations. A couple that come to mind were a Progressive Folk band called 'Aquarium' and a Prog Rock band called 'Arsenal' Great stuff, i havent played them in awhile though. If you like the sound of Folk music you will find something you like on the Mark Fry record. An album of real beauty! I love it. Hope I pronounced your name correctly. :-) hehe Thanks again for watching the vids. Hope all is well in your world - Khristian
Nice. I've got a compilation by Aquarium, was one of the first records I picked up when I started buying albums on vinyl. Arsenal sounds familiar. You did pretty well haha I salute you, no worries, it's hard to pronounce. You did way better than some Germans and Scots I've met :D All is well, thanks. Hope all is well in yours too. -B
Thanks for the shout out. Great stuff in here, many I'm unfamiliar with. I have the Coltrane, but the mtume remains elusive. I did just buy his 1972 album from a friend. It wasn't cheap, but I got it well under the going rate. Take care. Looking forward to more videos
+johnra 1 Hey man! Thanks for watching.Wow! Great score on buying the Mtume (Land of the Blacks) so hard to find in great shape especially for under $200, Good stuff man. Cheers - K
Nice rekids. Have to agree with the Wyatt comp. I don't buy many comps but he makes the tracks his own. The chic cover is soo good. Need to check the Alice Coltrane not got that one.
+neil bilton Hey mate! Thanks for watching! Yep, im with you. I very rarely buy comps either but this one is unique piece. His imagination runs free on all of his records and this one is no exception. The Alice Coltrane record is a beauty. Not cheap but well worth it if you're a fan of her 'Journey in Satchidinanda' record. Thanks for taking the time man. Peace - Khristian
Brilliant stuff and thanks for the shout out! Do share a link to your blog if you feel like it - must be quite a challenge to write about albums at random. I've recently started one as well but just sort of have to write reviews or impressions or whatever the right word for them is as the mood or inspiration comes. Nice Pharoah Sanders & Alice Coltrane too. Intriguing Mtume, had no idea he came from a jazz background. Cheers!
+Doug A. Hey Doug, Yes! Its the same for me. I like the random picks because it does challenge me and helps me to not make too many sentimental judgements or comparisons. But if i'm not feeling the music or am uninspired by the listening sessions, i leave it for another time. After all, we do this for our enjoyment first and foremost:-) Thanks again for watching Doug. Peace - Khristian
That copy of Freak Out is 10x better than mine and I live in LA. Hot Rats is a perfect album. I may be in the minority but I don't think Trout Mask Replica is a great album. If it was trimmed down to a single album it would have been a classic. But as it is the album has some crappy filler. I always felt that Alice Coltrane was just riding on John's success. In the late 70s my friends asked me if I wanted to go see Alice Coltrane at the Ice House. I said no with my preconceptions. After the show they said she was great. I think they might have been right and I was wrong. Enjoyed the video mate
+Vinyl Richie Hey mate! Wow! I would love to have seen Alice Coltrane live. But i can see how, at the time, that would be a popular opinion about her. I try not to compare her to John. I mean there really is no one who can compare to him (maybe Miles Davis). But her music and her band appeals to me deeply. On the Trout Mask Replica, i actually agree with you in that its a difficult listen and has a bit of filler on there. (Safe As Milk is way more to my tastes) But we cant deny its significance in the annuls of Experimental music as it really is a step beyond most of what was happening at the time. Anyways, Its all just so great that we have these records to even have opinions about them at all, whether we agree or not:-) Thanks a lot for commenting and sharing your views man. Peace - Khristian
Where did you score that Backstreet Boys' debut LP OG? Fucking jealous! Hahaha. Never heard of that Alicia Coldtrain you speak of. Sounds interesting sort of, but it ain't Maroon 5! Hahahahaha
