So, does anybody know what version I would read in order for the message alone to “hit” in the same way it did or would have all those centuries ago? I know I’ll never get the same impact and beauty as I would being born into the culture and psyche, but I’d like a version with the historical context and poetics and culture and history, which I am entirely divorced from, as best explained as possible, and I’m not sure where to begin.

Pity Imam Razi's tafseer is not available in English. I think Muhamamd Asad's is the best in the English language. Dr Shabir didn't mention most of this tafsir is really an adopation of Muhamamd Abdhu and Rasheed Rida's tafsir 'A'Manar' The light house. Most of the commentary follows Imam Tabari, Imam Zamakshari, Imam Razi , Ibn Hazm and Muhammad Asad's own insight. Thus this tafsir puts more weight on the Arabic language and rules of grammar, as opposed to ahadith.

First we should know the simple translation. As I used.
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious and Most Merciful
And those who disbelieve are allies of one another, (and) if you (Muslims of the whole world collectively) do not do so [i.e. become allies, as one united block under one Khalifah (a chief Muslim ruler for the whole Muslim world) to make victorious Allah's religion of Islamic Monotheism], there will be Fitnah (wars, battles, polytheism) and oppression on the earth, and a great mischief and corruption (appearance of polytheism). 8: 73
Why are we Muslims not talking about reestablishing the power and control Allah SWT give us from the beginning.
The number one concern on every Muslim's mind is the tragedy in Gazza. The destruction in Gazza is worse than that of Hiroshima and Nagasaki combined.
We have to listen to what Allah SWT is saying to us in the above ayah and from the beginning.
"Remember when your Lord said to the Angels, I am going place Khalifah on earth".... 2: 30
You see the UN is dead body in the muddy water as every resolution passed by majority, is vetoed by USA. Which means we have to reestablish the Caliphate. So we have to start our own The League of Muslim Nations under one Khalifah. And it's easy to do it.
It will be the Council of Muftis, from which they will choose the Khalifah. Under the Khalifah will be a seat for a Mufti from every country in world with 300,000 plus Muslim population. From every municipality we will choose a representative till we have the Council of Muftis for that country with a Grand Mufti of that country to sit in the Council of Muftis under the Khalifah. All communication can be done remotely with everyone working from home. Most effective and real democratic way of governing where all decisions are made by the Council of Muftis but the Khalifah having the final say. Under the Khalifah, the LMN will have its own army, navy and Air Force under one commander for defending the entire ummah. We already have the hardware from major Muslim countries. They just have relabeled "LMN" when they out to defend any part of the Ummah like removing the Mediterranean Sea blockade by Israelis. The three letters "LMN" will be enough to deter anyone from doing what is happening in Gazza today. But we have to be the Nation of Al Muttaqun for Allah SWT is saying now:
"You are the Best of People ever raised up for Mankind, enjoining what is Good, forbidding what is evil and believe in Allah SWT" .... Quran 3: 110
How can we go wrong when the fear of "LMN" will overwhelm the hearts of our enemies?
That is what Islam is and we are Muslims to resolve every matter in a Peaceful manner, Insha Allah. Alhamdu Lillah.
I sincerely invite all Muslims to join me in this effort, for if we fail, we will still get one Hashanah for our intentions, Insha Allah
    Jazak Allah Khair
    Your brother
    Abu Saad
Khalifah-to-be (as Son of Adam, AS)

Okay, first things first I'm not here to convert or something, you're free to believe whatever you want to, aight?
Now let me ask you few things first:
      1) According to science/biology:- Where did the life start? At what particular place like land, wind, water?
      2) Big Bang explains the origin of universe, right? I agree, it does. But whatever is created has a driving force right? Just like driving force for evolution is Natural selection, in the same manner there must be a driving force for Big bang too, what was it?
      3) What was before Big Bang? How did Singularity come into existence all of a sudden itself?
Just ponder over these, and answer me. I'm not debating or something, its just a friendly convo. And moreover I wont be able to tell you much above Big Bang as my knowledge is limited, but I am well versed with biology, as I'm a biology student myself.
