I heard rappid knocking on one of those buses it made me had a flashback when i lived in Kentucky back in 2007 i went to middle school back then and my bus would take me to school every morning and then finally one morning i was so tired but i still got up for school and i was getting dressed and finally went to go outside to wait for my bus - then my bus came picked me up so i stepped inside and i sat all the way in the back seat and after that i fell asleep then i woke up cuz i felt like i heard drums but i smelled antifreeze from the bus then i heard the sound again that sounded like drums then i realized something was wrong and i asked my bus driver whats wrong with the bus and he looked at me with a sad face and said quiet son your making me nervous so i heard the noise again but this time it was louder and finally realized it was rapid knocking and the second thing i realized by the smell of the antifreeze the bus was about to overheat so it finally did after my bus driver was picking up the kids on his last rout but the bus kept on going cuz the driver didnt let it quit and the bus was making rainstick noises like 6 times cuz the bus was finally breaking down then finally minuts later he stopped the bus as we stopped in front of the school so he lifted up his engine lid and smoke came gashing out bad but finally all of us got out of the bus i felt relieved but i saw all the sludge just coming out like goo i told my teacher i dont wanna ride that bus ever again cuz it scared me and they said it will be alright. And heres a side note for yall the bus was a flat faced bus and now i hate them cuz they break down to easy.
the one that was called the 'war pig' had a pretty good engine runaway there towards the end. never seen a 3800 series international do that before, they're usually pretty good runners.

But you've got Mad Max. Due to our winter snow in our area and "salting" the roads for snow removal - our vehicles take a nasty beating of rust and rot. Most student transportation contracts limit school bus usage to 10 years due to wear & tear. These come from the auction yard. If they aren't bought by South American countries and driven to the tropics - they may end up in a demolition derby or the scrap yard.
What if this happen so you are on a school bus going to school, but that bus driver says we will get to school late today and he bring you to this, a bus with kids hitting other buses
This illustrates just how strong these buses are. Most accidents only incur 1 hit. The 1st few hits did relatively little damage, to these buses... & that was against other buses. But while it does happen, most bus accidents are with cars, that are significantly less strong. Hats off to school bus manufacturers, for keeping our kids safe. 👫🚍
Consider that recent crash in NJ where the bus made an illegal U turn into the path of a dump truck. Sure, 2 were killed and 40 injured, but to see that bus completely detached from the frame you would think it should be 40 killed and 2 survived with injuries.

in any demolition derby, you strike with the strongest part of your vehicle and you protect the weakest part from hits. the engine compartment is the weakest, rear is the strongest. so you lead with your butt.

For the feature, resurrected/recycled buses are injected from the past year. All of these vehicles are procured by the Fair for use at the fair.
The Limb Reaper basically they send the new buses in first to kind of start the damage and then they add in the ones that already have some damage is trying to even the playing field

They are not so much cheap as they are beyond usefulness for safe student transportation. They are pretty well worn out. The fairground that holds this event actually purchases the buses from a local auction. Nothing goes to waste and the totally destroyed buses are taken immediately by a scrap company for recycling. Any buses that can be rehabilitated for the following year are used once again.

@@gusneaker $1,500 to $3,000. US Dollars. Hopefully some of that cost is made back with attendance to the show. This "derby" is more entertainment than an actual competition. There certainly is very real danger, and some drivers do get injured. Again, keep in mind that these buses no longer meet safety standards for school student transportation. With a lot of work and repair they could be road worthy to the private owner. Naturally, the more road worthy the bus the higher the purchase cost would be. I've seen some of these being purchased and driven to Mexico and Central America, but I'm reasonably certain they are buying a better condition vehicle. Glad to answer questions if I can.
