Owlcuin Rings a Quarter Peal!

Thursday, 5th October was a momentous day in the history of Alcuin College at the University of York. Together with Natasha A Williams (1-2), and supported by Simon W Edwards (both members of Alcuin College) Owlcuin, the Alcuin College Mascot, rang his first quarter peal; 1272 Plain Bob Minimus in hand, taking 21 minutes. Even more impressively, he rang the mighty tenors, and conducted! Congratulations Owlcuin, and let's hope it's the first of many :-)
(As an aside - yes, it was bloody hot, yes it was worth doing, and yes, the College staff and other students seemed to enjoy it, although we think we woke at least one person up!...)

I was not expecting to see a video of you dressed up as Owlcuin, ringing a quarter peal of Plain Bob Minimus, on handbells... On tower bells perhaps next?! 😆

Ha - I hope it amused you as much as it amused us! A writeup has gone to the Ringing World, so Owlcuin's achievement and fame will be enshrined for all time 😊 Tower bells probably not going to happen though - partly as Owlcuin has no sight, partly as his body build will make the rope awkward, and mostly because he has no grip in his wings! (Tho it is tempting to see if Owlcuin could manage a few backstrokes....) 😂
