- Pack Burro Racing is a sport indigenous to the State of Colorado with origins that are steeped in legend. In a typical burro race, a runner and a burro (donkey) travel a prescribed course together, with the runner leading the burro on a rope. Riding of the burro is not allowed. In fact, the human may carry the burro, but the burro may not carry the human. Trail Runners, Max King and Ryan Sandes, decided to travel to Colorado and enter the 69th Annual Burro Days 30 Mile World Championship Pack Burro Race. After all… How hard can it be?

'It's kind of an ego busting sport' - Brilliant. Fantastic video.
I tried this “sport” back in 1978. I grew up in Buena Vista, Colorado, now the site for one of the burro racing Triple Crown events...you even see some recognizable footage from around there in this video. This brings back memories...not all of them good. I got dragged pretty good one day coming off Mosquito Pass into Leadville. That day was the end of my burro racing career. 😬

Seeing a guy unloading hay in shorts, tells you he has likely never done it before, but good for these guys for just jumping into this wild and crazy race.
lol, done it for AGES... I still do it in shorts at times, carry the bale, don't rub it against ya legs and you will be just fine.

Every single one of the burros in these races was rescued from the killpens on the way to the slaughter house dumbass. My wife and I do all those races and we adopted our two boys about 6 months ago. They were scheduled to be killed and rendered later on that day before we intervened. The donkeys live in God's Country, Colorado now with full veterinarian services, farrier services, fresh water and all the high end hay they could want. Our burros are estimated to be 4 and 5 years old and are expected to thrive and live another 30-45 years. Please shut the hell up about what you think of the donkeys welfare when you have no clue on the subject, at all..
This animal abuse.. carry your own shit! Stop abusing animals. If you can’t carry your own gear than you are not ready to participate.
