Just a point, the adjustable seats aren’t an extra $10k. The package is the upgrade from the Reserve 2 package which is $4k more and also gives the upgraded stereo too. Still a lot of money but not as crazy as it sounded in the talk.
Just read the manual more to see what the technology is about in this car. I own one and I haven’t had any problems figuring anything out. Spend a little time reading about it and sit in the car while doing so and go through the settings! Really quite simple. FYI the reset button is the HUGE volume button. Just press and hold and it will reset. I love the steering wheel as well! I’m told that there will be more widgets added via upgrades. Can’t wait to see what they include!
Selection of a POV is very personal and this discussion seems very nit picky. As an owner of a 2024 Nautilus, to say the steering wheel is awkward is ridiculous. It's only hardly different than a circular steering wheel. Both my wife and I love it.
My thoughts exactly. I get that they are discussing it but i expected them to also find and share solution to reset before just ranting about it for a long time.
Has consumer reports just lost any ability to know cars. So many errors in this video. The previous Nautilus was based on the Ford Edge platform but the 2024 is built on a stretch C2 which is under the Edge, Bronco II, Corsair, and I believe even the Maverick. Second, you can reboot the screen by pushing and holding the volume knob for 10 seconds. Finally, what was the entire, "I want to memorize the steering well function but I can't cause they are not labeled discussion." The vent thing is bad I agree but otherwise, it felt weird like a bunch of old people complaining about the new fangled controls.
Hey team. RE: discussion about wagons and cargo capacity-what???!!! no mention of the Subaru Outback! 8.6 ground clearance, 75.6 cargo capacity, best all wheel drive system, comfortable seats especially on long distance trips, no foo-fooey instrument panels/gear shifters, great visibility and very reliable. So many features to love. It’s a workhorse-not a show horse. You can tell how much we love our 2015 Limited (Junior). Over 103k miles that are mostly from long distance car camping adventures. And best of all-no major or dumb problems.
I know they call it an SUV but the Outback is just a raised wagon. That’s why I selected it over the Forrester. It drives like a car but has 8.7 inches of ground clearance so it has easier access. The next redesign is rumored to include a hybrid version.
The HOME button on the center screen is the HOUSE icon. If you had read the owners manual that is available on the Lincoln website you would have known holding down the crystal VOLUME button for 10 seconds does the reset you were talking about. It is helpful to familiarize yourself with all the vehicle features and operations before you drive one. This goes for any vehicle.
35:05 [About adjusting the air vents from the touchscreen] "Look, you still have motors behind, actuating, directing...it could be a parts/price saving...oh, instead of having a slider that could break...we have to form all these individual parts..." No! Absolutely, 100% not! It definitely costs MORE to have the vent controls in the touchscreen. Motors always cost more than plastic parts to manually move the vents. Even if the vents were a nice metal, they would still be cheaper and more reliable than all of those vent motors.
Ryan’s response about the wagon question was spot on. I sold my SUV and purchased a sedan and realized my view was decreased because I was surrounded by tall pickup trucks and SUVs. Trying to make a right turn with a tall vehicle on your left meant inching into the crosswalk blindly to see around the vehicle. Similarly, on the freeway it’s more difficult to keep an eye on the traffic ahead of you when you’re surrounded by taller vehicles. It really can be a safety issue.
These three presenters make a superb team. They are all very articulate and knowledgeable, and they relate to each other so courteously and respectfully. They are excellent at engaging with the audience. Please have them back on future episodes.
2 weeks with my 24 Nautilus Black Label in the heights of unrelenting sun and heat, I have had zero issues with seeing the screens with my polarized sunglasses.
The best vehicle controls I have experienced are on the GMC RTS bus. Every control had a unique shape so once you sat down and checked everything out you could tell you had the correct control by touching it. One could drive that bus all day without tiring.
If you have paid attention to news of Chinese EV, you will know that the panoramic screen is not new. But the one I saw in those Chinese EV videos are fully functional, not just a large screen like this one.
They fault the vehicle when they don't know how to use it and don't bother to read up on it. All their comments show how uncomfortable they are with change. And they're young! I'm a senior citizen and have no problem operating the tech in this vehicle.
Wow, where to begin. As someone who has watched all episodes of Talking Cars, this one is clearly the worst. Emily, you won’t drive a vehicle if the audio is controlled from the infotainment screen because it may go out? Hello, have you ever driven a Tesla? Losing audio would be the least of your problems. John, you don’t want the panoramic screen because it will be expensive to fix when it breaks. Guess that limits your car buying choices to a 1985 Camry. Ryan, Subaru makes a wagon called the Outback. Same ground clearance. Seat height and headroom compared to say a Forrester SUV is an inch or two. Suggestion to all - if you are about to drive a vehicle with new tech capabilities, take a little time to read the relevant sections of the owner’s manual or watch a couple of videos provided by the manufacturer. You seem to equate new and different to bad. Agree with your advice about being to first to buy a new design. If you want to be a pioneer be prepared for some grief.
Yes! I’m seriously considering buying one. More practical than a new Prius, similar drivetrain, but perhaps small for camping of 3-4 people unless a cargo box is installed?
This happened to me on my 2023 Chevy Traverse. It has something to do with Apple Car Play/Android Auto not connected with a strong Bluetooth connection. My car was off and it said I could not shut off Android Auto while the car was driving!
28 minutes talking about the screens??? And they didn't know how to do a reset??? This is one of the worst car reviews I have ever seen. These people act as if they've never seen anything new before. I got used to the steering wheel in about 3 minutes, yet they made a huge deal out of it. Calling things they don't like "massive problem areas" is really pathetic.
I am a wagon guy, too. Because of the few choices, and for the Volvo's well earned reputation for durability and safety, I am a Volvo wagon guy. Having owned an SUV, a wagon is a form factor that fits my needs. Unlike an SUV, it has a lot of cargo space behind the rear seat. The load-in threshold is far lower than that of an SUV, so it can cary gear, haul furniture, and it's easy to load the dogs into the car and get them back out. None of that is easy with the modern selection of SUVs. Nor most pickups, where the bed height is now chest high as pickups have gotten bigger and bigger. Sadly, as Ryan stated, it is now a niche vehicle. Iove my V70 2.5T - 258k miles on it. I loved my 1995 850 Turbowagon, and i really miss my Audi A3 Sportback, which was the clown car of a mini wagon, longer hatchback. Everything is cyclical, though.
My first car was a Volvo 850. Loved that thing. I personally couldn’t buy a new Volvo. Seems like turbo charging and super charging would hurt the long term reliability and cost for repairs for Volvo where I’m at is already so much more.
It is very clear to me that most people do not have to drive many cars for testing. A new car is going to have a learning curve of some sort. So much time was spent on what the glitches were. After a week or so of a driving a car, I would automatically know what to do. The piano keyboard for the gears is very simple to use once you have driven the car. What you found could have been summarized in 10 minutes or less. I’m disappointed with your review.
Terrible review. I had piano key controls in my 2015 MKC. Where have these people been??? Yes, there's new stuff to be learned, but I wouldn't even call it a "learning curve."
This is one of the worst Talking Cars-a show I normally enjoy. So much time spent on technology, but I doubt anyone spent time learning the car instead of just jumping in and driving it. This conversation wasn’t managed. It was filled with ping pong subjects filled with personal opinions rather than professionally pre-thought out information. I didn’t learn anything about size, its most direct competitors, trim options, storage, interior quality, how quiet or noisy it is, around town driving/parking experiences, etc… I love this show but the moderator needs to control those who talk too much about a single issue so that most of the basics are covered.
After hearing about how half-baked the technology in the Natuilus is, and how this half-baked technology dominates the Natuilus' driving experience, I don't care about any of the mundane aspects of the car anymore. I don't care if it's supercar fast and gets 190mpg and fits a entire youth soccer team with plenty of room for luggage. I wouldn't touch one with a 10-foot pole.
I find it Interesting g that the steering wheel is the same thing that Tesla does. I wonder if they read the owners manual. Daughter had a similar comment that she didn’t understand why the screen was blinking. Turned out the sensitivity was set in the default mode-high sensitivity.
I listened to another car podcast that was talking about the average age for a car buyer and it’s well above the 50s. Especially for the money. I seriously can’t imagine that the average customer for Lincoln is below 50, and adding buttons like that on the steering wheel or the large screens has to be a nightmare for most. I also hate that a brand would add a lot of screen space for the sake of adding a large screen. Second, people don’t love wagons because of nostalgia. People like them because you get the storage of an SUV, but the handling of a car. I can ensure you the people wanting wagons aren’t wanting a wagon because their parents or grandparents had a wagon. I wish wagons were more popular but it’s like minivans, Americans just don’t seem to like them. The last question, I think a Honda CRV hybrid or a Subaru Outback would be a great choice. If she cares about the environment impact, she should buy used. I did check, and there’s no way you’re getting a RAV4 Prime for less than 30K. I just searched and nothing within 500 miles so that was useless advice. It’s also going to be hard finding a Crosstrek Hybrid. I’d personally go with a Honda or Subaru.
I agree with Ryan about sedan/wagon vs SUV. Love my sedan, except driving at night because SUV & truck headlights are at my eye level. Not so in my wife's SUV.
rather poor discussion about an amazing car. they obviously haven't driven the car for very long. technology is easy to understand. this is a wonderful car!!
Always enjoy your reviews - normally listen to your EV-specific shows but this was so on-point regarding unnecessary "features" that are worse than what they replace. Re the question from a listener "Where did all the station wagons go?", I'd comment that although carmakers (here in the US) don't want to call their cars a "station wagon" because of negative cultural connotations for those of us old enough to remember a station wagon as a Mom-mobile, equivalent to the Minivan in the 1990-2000's. However, carmakers are making and selling four-door cars that are wide and low (def not SUVs) with a lift back. We just bought a Kia EV9, which is NOT an SUV, but has four doors, a comfortable wide stance, real five passenger capacity, and a spacious storage area behind the second row and a lift back. Just like my Mom's 1974 Ford Station Wagon. To me, the Cadillac Lyriq fits the "wagon" category, also the Mercedes Benz e-Class Wagon, Volvo V-60, Subaru Outback, Crosstrek, and Solterra, Toyota BZ4X, etc. To me (an older crotchety guy), a vehicle isn't an SUV unless it has significantly higher road clearance than average, AND the interior is significantly taller making the roofline at or around eye level (I'm 6'). Just one crotchety old guy's opinion!
As someone that drives a Ford edge every day at work, the seats suck. So I think they got so many complaints they over engineered these seats to make up for it.
I think the disappearance of the wagon is about profit. A wagon takes away the sales from a higher margin minivan. The same reason we don't have many small truck choices.
Wagons vs SUVs...Often wonder that the rise of suvs seems to coincide with the quality of roads themselves deteriorating. Bigger tires/higher body would seem to function better on poor roads (Minnesota potholes).
This was a pretty lousy car review. All they really wanted to talk about was that they didn't understand how to reset the screen and other less important items. This was not an in-depth car review
Thank you for the Nautilus Hybrid Review. I've been waiting on this. Much of what you mention are deal breakers for me, which is a bummer, as I was hopeful this could be an option for my next SUV. Hopefully they will iron this out in future years!
I read an interesting and informative piece about Blue Cruise. The author was testing it near an urban center, and found that it didn't really reduce his workload on a divided highway with moderate traffic that was moving along nicely. He said the real benefit came from Blue Cruise when he encountered heavy traffic that was moving along in fits and starts. The Blue Cruise was very helpful in that case, and reduced his stress level. He found it much less tiring than normal in those kinds of traffic conditions.
some colors have special effects like pearlescent finishes where it requires multiple layers of paint which is why the cost is increased to account for the extra paint used
Almost seems like you 3 were paid by competitor to bash this vehicle so much. Very disappointed with this type of review. To focus and continously bring up the screen freezing was ridiculous. Find me a new car with all these screens and new technologies that don't have the occasional glitch and screen freeze and I would say you found the perfect vehicle. No such thing exists. Very disappointed.
I like Fords, Lincoln. This is why I make it a habit of buying a car that has been in productin for at least 3 to 5 years. I like this car, but the Tec. scares me. FOr very reason of what happen in this review.
Why are people upset at CR's critique of the new Nautilus? The issues were valid. If half of your car's features didn't work because they're buried in a screen thats frozen, you'd be turned off too. Lincoln is charging a lot of money for fancy tech that doesn't work reliably and doesn't actually make anything easier. People just want sh_t that works and works easily. There's nothing wrong with that. 💁🏾♂️ Thanks CR for telling the truth.
Automobile manufacturers have either forgotten or willfully abandoned the concept of ergonomics in cockpit design. There’s no reason to reinvent the wheel nor replace hard buttons that function with soft non labeled switches that have multiple functions and swipe functions on screen that require drivers to take their eyes off of the road. Are we talking about automotive engineers or interior decorators and I’m not referring to lisenced interior designers who have degrees and architectural engineering degrees. I’m referring to decorators who splash colors around and aren’t up to the task’s at hand. This is only going to result in deaths. Who authorized this?
You guys are stuck in the past .to get the new age buyers these companies have to put this new technology in these vehicles to stay competitive. You can’t stay the same in this new market. The tech stuff is what the young buyers want.look at who’s buying more cars today.young people. Lincoln is just keeping with the new trends there going to win because of it. There sale are up every year because of it . There just giving the buyers what they want.
A car manufactured in China with non-intuitive dash controls! What was the original problem with circular steering wheels and the older physical dash controls? If it works, why fix it?
Volvo wagons are built in Sweden for Europe and North America. The sedans for the North American market (and possibly some of Europe) are built in South Carolina USA.
You keep showing pictures of the 2024 and 2025 Nautilus. They are entirely different vehicles. The 2024 is a 6 cylinder Canadian manufactured vehicle. However, the 2025 Nautilus is a 4 cylinder badge-engineered Chinese made vehicle. The panoramic screen is on the 2025 version. You can reset the screen on that version by depressing and holding the clear plastic volume knob for 10 seconds. This causes the computer to reboot the screens. Aside from the obvious geo-political concerns over buying a Chinese made vehicle, China has not been known to generally produce high quality products. In recent years Ford has had very public quality concerns with it domestically produced vehicles. It’s surprising that they would go to a Chinese manufacturing plant to produce a halo brand like Lincoln. I have to presume profit is the big motivator, as they can sell a vehicle in the U.S. for $65,000 that sells in China for $30,000. Apparently they use a loophole in the tariff system by sending one vehicle to China to offset each vehicle they import from China.
Fyi. It’s from China. Enough said. But my Ford vehicles built here has been great. I wished they implemented more of their hybrid tech with AWD across more models.
I've owned 4 Lincolns since 2007 -- an MKZ, a Corsair, a 2021 Nautilus, and a 2024 Nautilus. Never had a single problem with any of them. So yeah, you're wrong.
The reset button is the volume button. Press and hold for like ten seconds. How did consumer reports not know that?
How did you?
Wow. Have had ours for 3 months. Love it. It didn't take long to get used to the wonderful features the Nautilus offers.
Did you happen to find anything about manually adjusting the vents?
Selection of a POV is very personal and this discussion seems very nit picky. As an owner of a 2024 Nautilus, to say the steering wheel is awkward is ridiculous. It's only hardly different than a circular steering wheel. Both my wife and I love it.
Same here. I got used to it IMMEDIATELY.

Interested if polarized glasses/sunglasses affect the driver’s view of the screens. My car is old school.
That’s a great point. In my newer Subaru I don’t have issues most of the time, but depending on the angle sometimes it can be hard to see something.

Question on the best vehicle for camping. Is there a tow weight difference if we wanted to be able to pull a small trailer?
You can’t get a used RAV4 Prime under $40k, much less $30k
Enjoyed the banter between the three of you while discussing the real world usability of the vehicle.

Surprised nobody mentioned the Corolla Cross hybrid as a possible choice for the final question.
I think they might have avoided that due to the camping/off-road preference the questioner had.

This is the only Lincoln not based on any current ford product. Its a new platform that has no ford based on it.

Just one crotchety old guy's opinion!
As someone that drives a Ford edge every day at work, the seats suck. So I think they got so many complaints they over engineered these seats to make up for it.
What I was curious about is the water pump buiit into the engine, requiring a $3,000 engine-out job.
I think the disappearance of the wagon is about profit. A wagon takes away the sales from a higher margin minivan. The same reason we don't have many small truck choices.
Crown signia is basically a station wagon
Apparently a delayed rollout. Will be called an SUV but be more like a wagon.
Lincoln UX designers forgot that the average Lincoln customer is 65 years old.
Buying it at 29 yrs old 🤷🏽♂️
They are not 65 years old. The average age is dead.
Worst car review I've seen on You Tube.
Thank you for the Nautilus Hybrid Review. I've been waiting on this. Much of what you mention are deal breakers for me, which is a bummer, as I was hopeful this could be an option for my next SUV. Hopefully they will iron this out in future years!
The things they mention as dealbreakers are just ridiculous.
Jon and Ryan being polite while Emily tells a long, boring story 🤐
Wagon vs small suv, it's more comfortable to sit upright and easier to get in and out of an SUV.
Look forward to seeing this! Question: What is the equivalent Ford product?
That would be the Ford Edge: www.consumerreports.org/cars/ford/edge/2024/overview/
🇺🇸
There is no Ford Edge sold in the US.
My understanding is this is a totally new vehicle with its own architecture.
Why does she always exaggerate things. A simple on and off will reset the issue
Sooooo much is exaggerated in this video.
It is simple keep the old vent system. If it works! Why fix it!
Been a CR subscriber for over 30 years and I love your work. However, spending more money on a car's COLOR??? What am I missing?
some colors have special effects like pearlescent finishes where it requires multiple layers of paint which is why the cost is increased to account for the extra paint used
Where have you been for the last decade?
Almost seems like you 3 were paid by competitor to bash this vehicle so much. Very disappointed with this type of review. To focus and continously bring up the screen freezing was ridiculous. Find me a new car with all these screens and new technologies that don't have the occasional glitch and screen freeze and I would say you found the perfect vehicle. No such thing exists. Very disappointed.
I like Fords, Lincoln. This is why I make it a habit of buying a car that has been in productin for at least 3 to 5 years. I like this car, but the Tec. scares me. FOr very reason of what happen in this review.
This is like saying hey my computer froze and I didn't know how to reboot it. Consumer reports didn't do their homework on this one. RTFM.
If this had a MB, MDX Lexus or BMW badges, these things they know nothing about, would be just wonderful. Talk about bias!!!!
Because you can press and hold the volume dial for 10 seconds and reset the entire thing. They made a mountain out of a molehill.
The major issue is the major stand out of the car.
OMG. This was the most irritating review. Hit the volume knob to reset. Done.
Most annoying review ever.
Can you imagine how much that screen will cost to replace? I bet it would require a whole new dash.
A car manufactured in China with non-intuitive dash controls! What was the original problem with circular steering wheels and the older physical dash controls? If it works, why fix it?
The only dash controls that aren't intuitive are the vent controls. The steering wheel is great and I got used to it immediately.
Great conversation flow!
Long winded
Nice car, built in Red China, no bueno.
Maybe Chinese spyware broke the infotainment system
Designed for the Chinese market too, since that's where most of the sales will be.
Volvo wagons are built in Sweden for Europe and North America. The sedans for the North American market (and possibly some of Europe) are built in South Carolina USA.
Your phone built in red china, please return
Sooooo much of your information is bogus.
Agree with the majority of comments: terrible review.
Where have we gone wrong when the first twenty six minutes are devoted to the technology and interface of a new car.😮
It' bad reviewers dwelling on the wrong things and adding a lot of misinformation.
There’s just so much that can go wrong on complicated cars like this.
After seeing this review, I'm not sure why Ford is keeping the Lincoln division alive.
Because the review is complete crap.
Ford/Lincoln make such crappy and unreliable vehicles!
Because your favorite manufacturer is SO much better, I bet.
Def NOT one of the better CR car reviews & long winded to boot.
Awful review with a ton of mistakes.
I feel like everyone is trying to copy the worst parts of Tesla.
This Lincoln is made in China, just saying!
So was your phone.
CR is crap.
I humbly disagree.
