Martin Luther, if I hadn't gone to confession yesterday I would have some rather strong words for you. Hope your happy about splitting Christianity into 40,000 and reviving heresies because of it.
Thanks for the offer, but im ok at where im at. Luther was a bit unhinged, and the foundation of protestantism was not stable. I see catholicism more likely to be true due to its history and undeniable evidence of papacy found in the first millennium. However, i actually respect Lutheranism more than any other denominations. i would even say personally that it's closer to catholicism than Eastern Orthodoxy, oriental orthodox etc i have a deep respect for Lutheranism, and close person to me is Lutheran and i almost did convert to Lutheranism too.
@@Roman_Leo3 brother, that's circular reasoning. You can't point to the writings of a pope when trying to defend the papacy. That's literally like me saying Martin Luther taught Lutheran beliefs, therefore Lutheranism must be true. The early church is not at all unified in their view of the bishop of Rome. Many in the early church did not view the See of Rome as having more authority and supremacy over the other churches: "Let the ancient customs in Egypt, Libya and Pentapolis prevail, that the Bishop of Alexandria have jurisdiction in all these, since the like is customary for the Bishop of Rome also. Likewise in Antioch and the other provinces, let the Churches retain their privileges". (Council of Nicea, Canon 6) This canon shows that the early Church recognized multiple centers of ecclesiastical authority, each with its own jurisdiction, rather than a single, overarching authority of the Bishop of Rome over the entire Church. St. Cyprian, at the Council of Carthage, Synod of 256: "For neither does any of us set himself up as a bishop of bishops, nor by tyrannical terror does any compel his colleague to the necessity of obedience; since every bishop, according to the allowance of his liberty and power, has his own proper right of judgment, and can no more be judged by another than he himself can judge another. But let us all wait for the judgment of our Lord Jesus Christ, who is the only one that has the power both of preferring us in the government of His Church, and of judging us in our conduct there." St. John Chrysostom: “‘And I say unto thee, Thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my Church’; that is, on the faith of his confession”[St. John, Homily 53 on St. Matthew]. St. Ambrose of Milan: “He (St. Peter), then, who before was silent, to teach us that we ought not to repeat the words of the impious, this one, I say, when he heard, ‘But who do you say I am,’ immediately, not unmindful of his station, exercised his primacy, that is, the primacy of confession, not of honor; the primacy of belief, not of rank. This, then, is Peter, who has replied for the rest of the Apostles; rather, before the rest of men....” [Saint Ambrose, The Sacrament of the Incarnation of Our Lord, IV.32-V.34]. St. Cyprian of Carthage: “To all the apostles, after His resurrection, He gives an equal power...the other Apostles also were what Peter was, endued with an equal fellowship both of honor and power...”(On the Unity of the Catholic Church, 4) St. Isidore of Seville: “The other Apostles were made equal with Peter in a fellowship of dignity and power.”[De Ecclesiasticus, II.5, M.P.L., Vol. 83, Col. 781-782]
Matthew 16:18 King James Version 18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. The gates off hell have prevailed aganist this church if this modernism is all over
