My first look of the all-new Ford Explorer EV! I saw this car for the first time at the Everything Electric show in London, here’s my quick video showing you what I think.
The Explorer is built in Volkswagen’s MEB platform that underpins their ID vehicles and some other VW group cars such as the Audi Q4 e-tron and Skoda Enyaq. Ford and Volkswagen have had partnerships for many years now, however now more than ever with the electric cars, as well as them sharing some commercial vehicles recently and more on the way.
Now available to order, are the long range 77kWh battery cars with the entry 52kWh version available to order later in the year for early 2025 delivery.
Thanks to @FordUK for showcasing the Explorer at the show and to @fullychargedshow for having me, the Ford Events Team were excellent and some of the friendliest and most accommodating at the show! I look forwards too fully reviewing the Explorer later in the year @pyemotors9528

Hi Sam, I met you briefly at the show. You’re doing a great job, keep it up. If you were to put a Range Rover badge on the Explorer, people would be all over it! Looking forward to you taking it out for a test drive in summer.

It was great to speak to you, was very surprised to be recognised! Thanks for your encouraging words. I agree I suppose that would make it probably the most reliable Range Rover too! It will be interesting to see it fully in the summer yes 🙌🏻

Great review - one of the better ones I have seen, thanks. The explorer looks a lot better than the VW ID4/5. I would choose this car.

I’m loving the styling of the explorer, your right too Sam that blue looks stunning. I really love those 20” wheels with that grey paint finish - looks really smart to me 😊
The only thing which shocked me was the price - I know everything is so much more expensive but getting on for £50k for a Ford seems crazy - especially if you start adding desirable options like the heat pump.
I just can’t see Ford shifting many of them at that price - especially if depreciation is as savage as it often is with Ford. Hopefully I could be wrong though as a second hand one could be a great family car for people.
Just so disappointed you weren’t actually wearing a cowboy hat for the review🤠😋 spot on info as always though 👍🏻👍🏻

    • @Carcode
      @Carcode  4 месяца назад +2

The styling is really good yes! I agree it’s not the cheapest of cars but I suppose as around 80% of EV drivers are companies/fleet/ company cars, the list prices are often irrelevant as most will lease, but definitely interesting comparing it to others.
I can imagine it being a second hand bargain for sure, but if it goes down well with the press and public like the Q4 and Enyaq, it could hold its value well.
The cowboy hat might be a step too far 😅 I only realised as I was editing I looked just like an explorer, the outfit wasn’t intentional I was obviously channeling my Ford Explorer spirit 😅

@@Carcode That’s so true - I often forget about fleet buyers! Hopefully the depreciation won’t be too bad to push up the lease payments 🙂
Be interesting to see how it compares to the new Scenic as that’s quite a bit cheaper - it looks extremely smart too 🤔 maybe that could be a good car to review Sam?

Thanks for your information on the Ford Explorer EV, especially the details on the wheels, that was interesting. By the way, the Explorer EV has all really nice wheels. It's rare that I like all the wheel sizes a manufacturer offers for their model, but Ford has done it right. Unfortunately, I've heard most of the other information many times, just one never. Why don't any of you so called influencers ever show the range of front seat controls? Do you all really consider this to be meaningless? You're all describing the same things. And this one, which I think is significant, you ignore.

I’m glad my video was useful! I’ll take into consideration adding in seat controls etc in future videos, this was just a quick first look video that’s why you’ll here the same key information again.
In my full In depth review, I will dive deeper into the features etc 👍🏻 Thanks for your comment.

Thanks for the upload, i'm seriously considering this car as on lease somehow it is cheaper than a VW.

That’s interesting! Definitely worth a look although the dealers won’t have them in for a couple or months. I’m glad you enjoyed my video.

450 liter is not enough if you have a family of 5 and a dog.

Nice motor but looks a A LOT smaller than the promotional material made it look a year ago. Nothing like an American explorer. Shame

Yes the online images are hard to put into perspective. I think the Explorer is the perfect size for a European marketed EV, being based on the ID.4 it is very similar in size to other medium SUVs.
A coupe SUV will be coming out bringing back the Capri name, which should be a little bit bigger. Yes I think the Explorer name could cause a bit of confusion if compared to the American model, however as it’s not offered in Europe I like the name for the EV!
I think Ford would do well with a large chunky styled EV SUV, the Mach E is quite large but has more of a sporty look. A good alternative if you wanted something bigger would be the Kia EV9
      Thanks for watching 😄

This will do well in America, but the price and features aren't very good.

Pity Ford won't be making any, now they have abandoned EVs as a load of unprofitable junk.

Can you please say "claimed miles" next time? Most makers fall 25-30% short of claimed miles when driven in the real world.

    It's awful
First they bin the Fiesta then they use a VW vehicle and tweak it and add their logo

    • @Carcode

I really like the Explorer but that’s my opinion! The Fiesta will definitely be missed, but it wasn’t making financial sense and now lives on as the Puma. Thanks for watching

Well, you see, and I'm convinced Ford did it right. Why invent something that's already been invented. They took a ready-made MEB platform and built their car on it. And they did it brilliantly. I'll forgive them the few VW button panels because it's a small thing. The haptic buttons take some getting used to, and most importantly, they're backlit. They have an excellent exterior and a well laid out interior. They've created a combination that nobody's ever done before. And yet they haven't actually done anything miraculous, but that's probably because that's not what they were trying to do.

It’s working the other way round too, VAG is going to use the Mach E platform on their larger EVs
VW got the better deal if you ask me…
