I think Valaya is a beautiful fragrance for musk lovers but it’s certainly not for everyone. Variety is the spice of life. :)
Agreed on all accounts! It would be boring if PDM kept trying to reinvent the wheel by releasing flanker after flanker of the best sellers. At least they went in a different direction and I know some people will love it! xx
I got to smell Valaya at Saks when it first came out and I tried it on my skin. I have to say I was surprised I loved it so much! It's different from the usual floral scents I like, and also had a super powerful dry down! My colleague over at Parfum de Marly said some people complained that the scent would linger even after they showered!
Valaya was love at first sniff for me which I was not expecting at all. I did pick it up and I have received so many compliments. On my skin, the musk is not that prominent and the fruits, florals, and citruses blend so well. Although airy this is a beast with insane projection. I have received tons of compliments. It is not my favorite PDM that’s still DE but this is definitely my second favorite.
Yes. I love Valaya! It is citrus and lasts for days!

Have you ever tried a candle warmer? I don't want to light my special candles either, but the candle warmer diffuses the scent without using up the wax!! xoxo
I’m overseas currently and was able to get Babycat. It is divine! It smells very similar to Rosendo Mateo 5 which I also own.
Omg I love Valaya! I do love musks so maybe that’s part of why I love it, but the effervescence and fruitiness lingers through the dry down for me and I get that sparkling feminine vibe until about 5-6 hours in and that’s when it gets more of the woody musky skin scent. But I would argue it can be fun and flirty for a daytime date or brunch plans. It’s also gotten me so many compliments ❤
That is one gorgeous candle. I'm a Cancer too and the description you read out is spot on, even the greedy bit if I'm being honest.....hahaha.
I bought a sample from Luckyscent of valaya. As a 43 year old professional, I am in love with this for the office, and daily life (brunch, errands etc). I adore it. I will definitely check out more niche comparable before spending.
You are so spot on about Valyal. I went to Niemans to buy it ,and it’s just a nice designer perfume for me. I ended up buying creed Adventures for Her. Which I love.
I went to Neiman’s to buy it as well. Tried it on my skin and thought it was nice but a minute later it was gone - I asked the sales person, where did it go? She smiled and nodded. I ended up with a Roja. Fragrances just work with your chemistry or they don’t. I love that Erin just had the same feeling about it because I thought I missed something when trying it 😊
Honestly Valaya is my favorite PDM and I own or have owned so many. It's an absolute love for me.

I went so far as to email YSL's Corporate Office just after Christmas 2023 about Babycat and they responded that it was discontinued in the USA. I then tried to get Rifaaqat from Paris Corner. I did manage to get one bottle of Rifaaqat in early February...but it's lovely.
Then...decants of Babycat were available mid-February from Scent Split in Houston, so I ordered one, and then a larger one. They had full bottles for the ridiculous price of $450.00, so I was prepared to live with my decants and Rifaaqat.
Then...I watched a video by a different RUclipsr who had Babycat and she said she got her Babycat from another company I had never heard of. I went to their website...and ordered it for significantly less than the $450.00 a bottle. Mine came in slightly under $300.00. I ordered on a Saturday, and it was actually in the USPS hands that day...and I received it on Tuesday. I was very pleased!!!
I have the same thoughts on Valaya. Definitely not what I was expecting. It was too soapy for my liking and the longer it sat on my skin, it started to lean more and more masculine, like barbershop-aftershave vibes on me. I prefer Meliora more. Thank you for giving us your very honest review! ❤️

I was hoping for more of a warm, creamy peach but my nose only gets musky cotton. I'll stick to my beloved Oriana :) xx
I mostly agree with you on Valaya. I don't have a problem spending money on a perfume that I'll love and wear, but I wasn't about to blind buy it. I tried it about three weeks ago. To me it smells mostly citrusy, which is not what I gravitate to. One thing I do have to compliment on is the lasting power. It took two showers before I stopped smelling it on me, but I can still smell it on the sleeve of my coat three weeks later! Thanks for your honest review.

Hello 🌺 I also liked Donna Born In Roma Intense from Valentino, it is a beautiful fragrance. Parfums De Marly have amazing fragrances and Delina is my absolute favorite ❤ however Valaya didnt work very well on my skin, the benzoin turned out so intense that gave me a headache even though this fragrance seems to be musky and fresh.
Sorry, Valaya does not have Benzoin, what I meant was a very synthetic note, could be the nympheal or akigalawood or ambroxan that did not go well on the dry-down on my skin. I liked the opening of this fragrance.

I actually really like it. I’ll be honest, though, it had to grow on me. At first, it was so different than any other PDM fragrance I’ve smelled that really didn’t know what to do with it. But after completing almost two samples of it, I’m sold. The scent is so relaxing, pretty, and inoffensive. The longevity is unreal. When I first tried it at Nordstrom about 10:00 am, it was still going strong on my skin at about 6:00 or 7:00 that evening - all the other fragrances that I had sprayed had pretty much disappeared. This scent will stay on your clothing, jacket, etc. for days.
I would encourage others to try this on their skin and see how it works with their body chemistry. I think it’s a quality fragrance.

We’re all so different, I loved Valaya but then didn’t like Oriana. Prior to trying, I would have thought I’d be the opposite. Love Babycat, I just have a 5ml decant of it.
The dry down of baby cat is amazing!
I love your honesty Erin! I’m definitely going to try a sample of Valaya because it’s much too expensive for a blind buy. Same with Babycat because I’ve read mixed reviews despite all the hype. You look beautiful as always and I love your lip color!❤

Aww I LOVE Valaya! To me it’s soooo much better than Oriana and Delina la rosse. My top women’s Marly are Delina, Delina Exclusif, Saffanad, and Valaya!
I tried Valaya and bought it the next day. My god- its so gorge! And it lasts all day, survives showers and all. And ppl around me love it too, so this is a line with Delina for me. Right up my ally!
I absolutely agree about Valaya fragrance with you. For $335 it’s an absolute NO for me. I also love ON THE DATE fragrance , though lots of people hate it. Please try CANT STOP LOVING YOU from Killian....it’s divine, to my nose it’s narcotic orange blossom with smoky vanilla, so good

Selfridge's usually has great deals on fragrance if something is hard to find (or not sold at all) in the US.
Unfortunately they don’t send some of the brands including Parfum de Marly 😏
Spring and summer are tough for woodsy, spicy scent lovers. Not a fan of fruity, aquatic, too floral, or too citrusy. Also don't want to smell like straight laundry detergent. Ugh. Something clean & fresh, light, airy. A little floral or citrusy is fine if it's balanced out with some "dark" scents. Feel like I'm going to be searching forever. Any suggestions?? Maybe I will get a decant of PDM...I haven't liked the others, so maybe I will like this one.
When you mentioned the Valaya perfume, I wanted to try it. However, as soon as you mentioned it has vetiver, I was like, NO! Thank you!

I actually just received my YSL Babycat today from an Ebay seller as well! I've heard so much good things about this perfume and it didn't help that it wasn't sold here in the US (made me pull the trigger and bought it just for the sake of having it lol). It's very interesting. I don't have any perfume that comes close to this one (I don't typically like leather notes). This one is quite intense up close but smells so beautiful when you get a whiff of it randomly while wearing it! The dry down smells really good! Husband didn't like it, but it's growing on me!

I know I’m in the minority but I’m just on the fence with Babycat…I like how you said it may have been built up a bit too much…it comes across too leathery for me. it’s funny how different noses and tastes smell different things! I’m glad you love it since you purchased it! 💕I got a sample from Scent Split and will revisit later, maybe my opinion will change.

I thought Valaya was kind of ‘meh’ at first, but once I wore it on my skin I really enjoyed it! I think it will be nice as a daily office scent, and I’ve received a compliment on it already. For the price though, I won’t be buying a full bottle!
I would be impressed with it if it were a designer scent, but I don’t think it seems niche. I’ll definitely enjoy wearing my sample though!

I have a 10ml of Babycat that a friend from the UK sent me. I was very underwhelmed after all the hype I’ve seen in reviews. It is ok but I like other vanilla based scents much more such as my Guerlain Spiritueuse Double Vanille far more. Maybe it doesn’t work with my body chemistry but I don’t get all the hype? I will definitely not be buying a full bottle of it. I really love Replica On A Date and get tons of compliments when I wear it.
Tom Ford, yuck on Electric Cherry and I love Cherry Smoke. Tobacco Vanille way better than Babycat to me. Someone at work told me Babycat smelled weird so I washed it off 🤷🏼♀️

I actually loved valaya! I sprayed it on at nordstrom and then went to the chanel store and the girls were all trying to figure out what i sprayed thinking it was one of the chanel’s. Eventually we realized they were smelling valaya! They were all obsessed and saying how they could smell me across the room! I absolutely adore it but unfortunately the price tag is out of range for my college student budget :( I’ll just stick up on samples lol!
The new kilian is absolutely outstanding the honey note in there is absolutely everything 🥰

I had a sample and it was crushed on the carpet by my internet guy 😅 I couldn’t figure out what the beautiful smell was until I realized it was my sample. Everyone should try a sample if you like fresh slightly woody, slightly spicy musk. I have a bottle from Harrods and I love it 💕
To my nose Babycat smells very (very) similar to Rosendo mateo’s no 5. I like it a lot ☺️

I’m not much of a fan of the Parfums de Marly fragrances… but when Valaya was released I knew in my heart I had to get my nose on it. The notes where definitely up my alley.
I went in to go smell here in Australia yesterday. I had to ask the SA if they had it in the country yet and she brang it in from the back. She was surprised I came to even see it.
I asked for a wrist spray & a spray on a piece of cardboard. This was around 1:00pm in the afternoon. It is now 10:00am the next day and I can still smell it on my wrist.
I think I’m sold. I knew I would love this fragrance when it was first released.

Not a huge fan of valaya but I definitely want to give it another chance in warmer weather. I initially got the cotton fresh vibe, but on the second wear It came across smelling like moth balls when it dried down on my skin. I prefer fresh scents like musk therapy from Initio and even Blanche from Byredo. I think I was hoping the citrus opening in valaya would have lasted longer.
I know what you mean, the initial scent is really nice but I'm not in love with the dry down. I kept getting whiffs of it in my hair and on my clothes after filming and it just reassured me, I'm not a big fan. There's something in it that doesn't agree with my nose xx

Personally, I love Meliora. It’s my second favorite behind Oriana. So I hope you’ll love it too!

I felt exactly the same way about Valaya... it was NOT what I was expecting at all lol. Lucky for me, I love musk and airy/clean cotton fragrances so I will be buying a bottle at some point in time. But it threw me off so bad when I first smelled it, that I didn't even know what to say or do and just walked away lol. I was totally expecting something different.
I recently smelled both DbiR Intense (loved) & Replica’s On a Date (did not love) at Sephora. I need to get to Neiman’s to smell the PdM.
I got a decant of Valaya I’m still testing it, I also have a nice size decant of Babycat and I can’t find it anywhere I’m being told it’s discontinued!

After trying Valaya at least 10 times, tried on my skin on my clothes on a dabber I just could not fall I love with it, as much as I wanted to add it to all my other PDM fragrances I just could not purchase it.

I honestly think Valaya is beautiful and very feminine. I could see myself wearing it on my wedding day. I honestly like it better than Delina.
Any suggestions to give to my sister on her 50th birthday on May. She lives in San Francisco. I previously gifted her MFK gentle fluidity gold but she really didn’t like it but instead fell in love with baccarat sample so I gifted her that one Christmas. I'm thankful that I only purchased a decant of Babycat. It's beautiful, but the dry down is very similar to Resendo Mateu's No. 5
Everyone says it's a very sweet vanilla, I only have a dupe, but it's really suede/pepper heavy. Do you find that? I like it a lot, just not as sweet as I thought it would be

Valaya was a big no for me. I like babycat but agree it’s in the same neighborhood as SDV
And for me Valaya is a pass simply because it reminds me too much another fragrance and it’s Fleur Narcotique by Ex Nehilo. Just a softer version of it

I tried Valaya - sprayed on my scarf and my husband said the smell ruins his taste buds. I usually asked for his opinion - love it when he loves the perfume I tried but this time he gave a huge no unfortunately.
Just curious, did you like it initially? How did you feel about it? I know my husband has some strong opinions about some of my favorites lol but it does help when they are really complimentary. I always like to wear the perfumes I know he loves. A huge 'no' isn't really inspiring :/ xx
