  • Not just any 250 GTO, but the second one to be built, and the first to ever go racing (chassis number 3387GT), fresh from a full restoration at Joe Macari. You can hear the incredible V12 alive and kicking as we cruise through London's streets, one of just 36 of these beautiful cars ever built.

I don't think Enzo intended the car for a London tour. The GTO, although street legal, is a race car. Its only only suitable home is a circuit or a rally stage.

I saw an interview with Nick Mason the other day and he stated that the owners stay in touch with one another and that the MAJORITY of the 250 GTO owners drive their cars regularly and that somewhere between 5-10 are still raced, including his own 250 GTO.

However; Ferrari have pretty much guaranteed that no matter how much damage is done to a GTO they can and will be rebuilt. Just ask Nick Mason from Pink floyd. His cars are not just driven they are raced and raced hard. Goodwood Revival etc. A few years ago I had the divine pleasure and privilege of meeting his GTO when having a new clutch fitted to my Dino (2K Thanks) and whilst I couldn't sit in it as it, was on a ramp at Houghton, Turner and Mortimers Ferrari dealership in Northleach Nr Cheltenham where I live, I did manage to stand underneath it hoping for a drop of oil - which sadly I didn't get!!!!!!

I think when a car is worth that much, baring some catastrophic crash, a small fender bender or a door ding won't affect it's value. While expensive to us plebeians, the cost of repair is relative pennies to the owners and to the overall value of the car. As long as the car is an excellent running condition it should be fine and are meant to be driven. It's a justice for the car and a treat for people who get to see it.

I visited the Ferrari factory in 1981 after Ferrari won the F1 race in Monaco. Both the race and being at the factory afterwards was incredible, the celebration of victory. As our group toured the factory, are last stop was a huge warehouse that held more than 200 Ferraris waiting to be shipped. One of the guys in our group mentioned to our guide that none of the cars had a sound system installed. Our guide answered, "sir the engine is the music". And it most certainly is!

The sound of the V12 echoing off the buildings reminds me of the Gumball rally film (1976) when they're leaving NY, and you hear the sound of the Daytona (and Cobra) echoing down the streets without actually seeing it. Magic
