That was a great interview with two solid, ethical, family men and hunters who each do extraordinary work. I have been hooked on Weatherby's ever since my grandfather gave me his South Gate California 300 Wetherby when I was 14. I now have a few different Weatherby rifles but I am missing the 307, that might be my next purchase.
I feel the same way. In fact my dad had a nice Weatherby bolt action with a glossy stock and bluing that I spent a lot of time with. It always performed and looks amazing and well made. I always thought that I would need to buy me a Weatherby to celebrate that era in my childhood as to celebrate and support as well this great American company that still pushing for the best, and for the fastest Made in America!
Ron, I was hoping you guys would of discuss the relationship, partnership, history and, differences between Weatherby and Howa?@@RonSpomerOutdoors-Podcast
Congratulations to the Weatherby family, by blood and the extended family of employees, friends, and customers. May God continue to bless you in all you do.
My son worked for Hotchkis Performance Suspension when he was in school in NC. Hotchkis was in the process of moving out of California, after 5 generations.
I ABSOLOUTLY LOVED the 8 or 9 years that my wife and I hunted together. We could never afford Africa, Or even out of state hunting. But it was DEFINITLY a very special time together. Guys, IF you can convince your girl to go out, and hunt with you, it will create a bond like no other. Hunting was never the same after she had to quit. I still enjoyed it, but it just lacked, well, her. Now, we are both disabled, and can no longer can hunt. But we will always have those great times together.
My most two most cherished rifles are my dad's 1970's manufacture Vanguard Deluxe in .300 Win Mag and his Remingtin 700 CDL in .300 Weatherby Magnum. Always been a huge fan of Weatherby. Glad to see Adam carry on with the company and make it what it is today. The rifles they are making now are so good it's unreal.
Worked doing ranch work all summer in 1977 as a kid, saved everything, bought a 7mm rem mag vanguard at the end of the season, it is still my go to gun today nearly 50 years later, it has tallied an unknown number of mule deer and elk for me, thanks to your family and all your technicians for providing me with such a magnificent, accurate, and totally dependable firearm
Thanks for a great interview, Ron. The values that Adam discussed, while somewhat old-fashioned, are timeless. Thanks to Weatherby for making fine American-made products.
One of the things that I recently noticed is that for decades, Weatherby has specified a tighter max bullet diameter tolerance than most cartridges. This is because the chambers of most Weatherby cartridges use sections of very snug freebore to make certain the bullet is held in line with the bore as the rifling is engraved. This helps with accuracy and usually reduces dispersion (which is why modern precision cartridges like the Creedmoor and PRC series do it too). It also allows them to get higher velocities without going overpressure. The SAAMI specifications, for example, of most 30 cal cartridges like the 30-30 or 308 Winchester allow ammunition to use bullets up to .309" diameter. Allowing that extra slop in the spec puts limitations on some dimensions critical for accuracy. This can be a problem if someone has a tight match chamber since ammo loaded to the SAAMI spec can have bullets slightly too large for their chambers. The 300 Weatherby Mag, on the other hand specifies a max bullet dia of 0.3083", which allows them to use a freebore of only .3084" in production chambers. Only recently have some other cartridges like the 300 PRC and 300 Norma Magnum adopted the tighter bullet spec.
I mostly hunt with a Weatherby Mark V in .270 Weatherby Mag. It is my all-time favorite hunting rifle. The interview with Adam confirms why their rifles are so good. In my opinion, Weatherby rifles are the best you can buy short of having a bespoke rifle built.
A great American company! So glad Adam had the vision to move from CA to WY. If they'd stayed in CA, who know what might have happened to the company. CA is such an unfriendly state with ridiculous firearms laws and insane cost of living. Pretty awesome for the governor of WY to work with Weatherby on this move.
Adam is very articulate. Great interview Ron. Adam’s smartest move as owner of the company is ditch California. He’s secured the company for another 3 generations, Wyoming has great people.
That was a great podcast! I have three Weatherby rifles. I can’t think of anything more than I need than I get from my Weatherbys. It’s nice to know that the company is as solid as the rifles.
Wow, I'm very impressed, this guy knows his stuff, don't see that often these days in many businesses that the owner know so much about their products. Was already a devout weatherby owner/shooter, keep up the great work guys
What a great interview! I purchased my first Weatherby in 1971 love that rifle and every feature and design it has ! I’m not sure how much hunters desire from a game rifle above the Mark 5 rifle , myself as I aged I never wanted a rifle say 2 pounds lighter and as I’m In my 80’s now and I still desire a fine crafted rifle with blued steel and a fine walnut stock! I can understand new trends and new tech in the firearms field , I’ve never owned a fiberglass or carbon fiber stock and never really wanted one ! I still hunt with my fathers 98 Mauser custom walnut stock rifle and enjoy taking it out !! Now for my experience with high velocity and game all my life , hydro static shock , high velocity vs standard velocity, high velocity does more damage inside an animals vitals ! Bullet Velocity does make a huge difference!
I strongly identified with Adam's description of California during his grandfather's life and his decision to move the company to Wyoming. I grew up farming, hunting and fishing in Southern California, left in 1964 to go to college in Virginia and when I returned in 1971 I didn't recognize the state. Physically it was the same, but culturally it had changed immensely. I left for Colorado a year later and never returned.
I also plan to buy a new Weatherby to support this all american company. Adam you were a real pleasure to listen to and because of you I am going to buy a new Weatherby rifle. A sub five pound rifle sure does appeal to me!
I liked hearing the "keeping QUALITY" that's the key phrase. Anyone I knew who had a Weatherby 300 years ago was admired because everyone knew the price. Now that I'm older I will pay extra if the quality is there and gives me more confidence as well. I tell young guys buy quality you'll never regret it. Great interview
My wife use the vanguard 7-08. She loves it. I’ve used it also for mule deer hunting. I’m looking at getting a new rifle next year in 6.5 PRC. I’ve been looking at a couple of their rifles.
After having to pass up a shot while hunting Elk in Colorado when I had a 300WSM but the animal was standing in a thick brush with only the top of his head showing, he was 375 yards away and a real monster. After a bit of investigation I settled on a 340 Weatherby used, after I received it I put a Vortex scope on it. When Barns was making the MRX it had become my favorite bullet. With 250 gr bullets the accuracy at 600 yards was unbelievable.
Kudos to Adam and Weatheby for staying a family operations and keeping such high quality. I have a 300 mag from W and am grateful they are still a Western Co.
Great interview, I've owned a Mark V - 7MM for close to 40 years now. Heard pros and cons on that cartridge. Good to hear that we have American Companies doing great things.
When I listen to Adam I hear ‘hard work.’ Ron this has been one of the most insightful and inspiring interview videos you have made. Thanks for sharing.
Great video Ron! Really impressed with Adam and Weatherby as a company… We need to support American companies as much as we can! I’ll be purchasing a Weatherby as my next gun…maybe in a future 7mm-378 to celebrate their 80th year in business?…. I can dream
Thinking back to the 1940s-1950s many hunters were still packing lever-action rifles conceived in the 19th century. Into that environment, Weatherby brought modern high performance rifles and ammo.
Tis might of changed my opinion of Weatherby products. In the 80's I watched hunters show up in camp with 7mm, .300 or larger Weatherby rifles and chamberings. Some, told me their rifle did not need precautions before the hunt...like checking zero, it was sighted in at the factory, nonsense. They had drank the Weatherby coolaid. These were client hunters. It soured me on the glossy mark v. I would take along an old ,battered /06, for insurance . This was refreshing talk Thanks, Ron
Great video, Ron. Very interesting and educational. I wish they could bring back the .338-'06, both as factory ammunition, and in their excellent and affordable Vanguard rifle. Thank you for this one. I really enjoyed it. He REALLY knows his stuff!
Early this year i purchased a vanguard compact in 243 Winchester for my son who is very excited to start deer hunting. I really appreciate the thought put into truly making a rifle that fits a small framed shooter without sacrificing features or accuracy and while also providing adjustability enough to allow it to grow with them. I will also say i was so impressed with the fit, finish, and accuracy that i recently purchased a vanguard sporter in 257 weatherby mag and an looking forward to getting it ready for the upcoming season. My son has been practicing all summer with his and has gotten to be quite the marksman. And as a side note he absolutely loves the cool looking orange slash camo pattern! Keep up the good work and I'll be saving pennies because those mark v Backcountry rifles look amazing and hopefully i can put one in my safe someday! Great video
Wow that's about the same year my dad bought his mark v 300 as well, lol loved it so much he bought everyone from the 224 all the way up to the 460!!!! He,,,my mom lol bought him a custom 300 mark v as well!!!! My mom actually talked with Roy himself because he wanted to make sure he heard right because the gun has lots of gold,,,carving etc!!! I wish I had a picture because it's something to behold
Great video Ron and Adam, I grew up in Africa and ended up as a PH using a 375 Weatherby and a Rigby 416 as my main rifles. That 375 shot everything from steenbok to jumbo, I now live in Australia where they get excited about water buffalo lol
I'm currently in my mid 60s and Weatherby has been known to me for many years, but I never put one in my ownership until lately. With lots of pleasure, I currently have a Mark V Backcountry 2.0 in a 280 AI . I like where Weatherby is heading and wish them the best in a very changing industry.
Dear Ron, What a wonder interview! I’m a big Weatherby fan and I just went pig hunting in Florida with my Weatherby Vanguard .30-06. I love their products and I was thrilled to meet the man behind the company (and he’s seems like a great guy!). My wife and I run our 95-year-old family hardware business (third generation), so Adam’s story is especially relevant to me. Thank you so much for providing this content! I listen to you all the time so keep up the great work! Sincerely, Nate Smith Worth W. Smith Co. Olean, NY
Of all the thing weatherby, I own a element shotgun in the cerakoted grey with the black stock. I LOVE that shotgun. 26” barrel, sling studs, oh man. Does great for me on quail, doves, rabbits, waterfowl etc here in Arizona. Great product
Hearing your talk of the old days reminded me that as a young guy just getting into firearms, I thought that Weatherby was a fancy British gun company like Holland & Holland, etc. They had the beautiful stocks and their own line of magnum cartridges. Very exotic in the day.
Thank you Ron for a fantastic interview. Weatherby has always been a “halo” brand in my books. Perhaps one day, but for now I am just wishing on a star. Again, thank you for your great work.
Each to his own but I have a weatherby and I still appreciate it's beauty over its chambering. I hope weatherby still continues to make beautiful (wood stocked) rifles.
I have a .243 Mark V Hunter and it has a fantastic barrel. This gun shoots .3s and .4s with a handload that I was lucky enough to develop with the first bullet and first powder I tested. I'm a Weatherby fan.
Years ago you could invest in the bank of bolder co.and get a mark v my grand dad did this got a 7mm weatherby mag it's mine now and its my go to rifle.
He mentioned the vanguard in 7 rem, which is my only Weatherby I have. Got the meat eaters edition and it’s been a pleasure. I do wish the matching muzzle break matched the barrel contour better, but as someone much more interested in the performance of my tools I have no real complaints lol
Thanks Ron and thank you Adam for taking the time to do this. I love my 3 Weatherby rifles and my son loves his too. I think I'll be shopping for another now.
Weatherby has always been on my radar. They do make some very nice rifles and shotguns as my Brother has both and they serve him well. I do keep an eye on there rifles and I can see one in my future someday.
I owned a custom maark V in .300 Weatherby back in the eighties, and that is one rifle I still wish I had not sold. It was rediculously accurate and that always makes a rifle fun to shoot. :-)
My O/U is a Weatherby Orion Classic Grade 3 in 12 gauge. It was an anniversary present from my wife (I got to pick the shotgun), Mine was made by SKB and has been great. Great company, great products.
One of the best interviews I have seen in a long time.i just picked up a weatherby mark v weather tech lt in .257 weatherby mag.good job weatherby and good job on interview mr.spooner.
Great interview with a great topic. I believe Weatherby has the right business focus as primarily a hunters firearm. We grew up as hunters versus target shooters. Never needed more than a box of ammunition at one time because you could find what you needed at any store. Take care and keep your focus.
I love my 257 Weatherby and my 338-378 Weatherby. I wish they made a 35 Whelen! I would buy one in a heartbeat or the Weatherby version of it. I can only dream.
Wow, what a great video. I learn something which was the RPM line is made by Weatherby. I guess I should’ve known this however I didn’t. And I am an active reloader.
I remember when they were on Firestone Blvd. As a kid it was like going to Disneyland, hell as a young adult it was like going on safari they had that giant Polar Bear incased in glass and all sorts of trophy animals. Im 68 now and I still get excited thinking about it. I was devastated when they moved. I purchased a .458 #1 Tropical from them.
Got out of the Navy in 1981 and bought a Mark V with German barrel, just sent it back for a new stock on it. My back up is a Vanguard 25 06 love ,them both thanks !!
My late 80's Vanguard is still the queen of my collection which includes 700's and a Waypoint along with newer Vanguards. I would like to see a 307 on the Peak stock and a CF barrel
I have several Weatherbys both rifles and shotguns. I have never ever been let down by them and their customer service. I took the Vanguard Meateater in -06 to Africa last year and had excellent results on 12 animals out to 700yds. I now have the new Meat Eater in 6.5RPM which I'm taking to New Zealand in May for Red Stagg. I'll, as always, be using my 300 Weeatherby Mag for free range Audad in TX next year in the Mark V action. I'm a true Weatherby fanboy as rhey would say, bit results, quality, and customer service are top tier..and most importantly they are a God fearing family and put that 1st and forward. I'll continue to support them.
Always been a Weatherby super fan! I love all the innovation and appreciate what Adam has done since moving the company to Wyoming. I value the long-standing tradition that Weatherby has had but if you don't innovate you die! Glad to see they continue to push the envelope!
I must say that my Weatherby Vanguard S1chambered in 7mm Rem Mag that I have had for the better part of 25 years has NEVER given me any problems ever. Range days, no problem. Hunting days in the Cascade mountain range, no problem. Can't be beat for the price point. I can shoot cloverleafs with my hand loads all day at 100 yards. With the 1 in 9 twist rate, I can shoot bullets ranging from 100 grains to 180 grains with the proper handloads. Love my Weatherby!!
307 weatherby is on my list..I grew up in the late fifties early sixties my father was one of a handful to have a 300 weatherby east of the Mississippi back in the early days of weatherby.. I remember around Christmas he’d received a weatherby company catalog..Roy’s office and big game mounts, as a young kid that was it.. now at 70 I’m still weatherby all the way.. When Weatherby came back to mark v’s being made in the U.S. I bought one with a very low serial number and it’s dead nuts on.. great interview Ron!
What a great video. I have a 7mmwby and 340wby and my whole family shoots Weatherby. I have been one of the biggest critics of the "new Weatherby". So much so Adam even brought me up in one of his videos and kinda let me have it LOL. I still don’t care what he says, every Weatherby should have a diamond on it PERIOD!! Both my guns are Japan made MKV’s and next on my list is a Sheridan made rifle!! I just can’t decide which one. I am leaning towards a 378 or the 224(not sure if they make it still though).
I see Knives of Alaska is a sponsor. I bought one of their coho knives years ago in aus8a. My favorite fillet knife till this day. Nice to know they are still around!
After listening to this video, I want to purchase a 307 Weatherby just to support Adam's all American company.
That sounds like a great plan. Thanks for watching!

I like weatherby but after seeing this i like it even more thanks ron
Thank you, and thanks for watching!
I love that Adam is also a pastor. I’m buying a custom Weatherby just to support them… and go hunting out west of course😅
I've always looked at Weatherby as the top shelf. Looks like it's in great hands with a down to earth CEO like Adam.
Couldn't agree more. Adam is a great guy. Thanks for watching!
Absolutley.
Absolutley.
Well one thing is for sure Adam is a class act
Couldn't agree more. Thanks for watching!
Absolutley.
Super video. Thank you Ron for bringing Adam Weatherby to your channel. Fantastic interview of a fantastic company and CEO. Love Weatherby!
I’m glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching.
This is far & away the most interesting guest you've ever had on. Great video !!❤👏👏
Glad you enjoyed it. We had a lot of fun having Adam on!
Ron, I loved this video interview! Adam Weatherby laughing at the 6.5 Creampuff,,,, Priceless!!!!

I need a weatherby . The fact that it’s a family owned American company appeals to me . I think I’d go with Roy’s favourite . The 257
I finally bought a Weatherby a couple years back - an Accumark in .340. Seriously thinking about getting a Deluxe in .257 next.
257 is an amazing cartridge!!!! I hunted for years with one. Amazing the cartridge, even more amazing the age of the design.
My most two most cherished rifles are my dad's 1970's manufacture Vanguard Deluxe in .300 Win Mag and his Remingtin 700 CDL in .300 Weatherby Magnum. Always been a huge fan of Weatherby. Good choice lol!

One of the things that I recently noticed is that for decades, Weatherby has specified a tighter max bullet diameter tolerance than most cartridges. Only recently have some other cartridges like the 300 PRC and 300 Norma Magnum adopted the tighter bullet spec.
I got a stainless Vanguard 30 06 with an awesome black stock from my reloding mentor. RIP Mr. Earl.

I could on and on about what a great episode, thank you Ron and thank you Adam , great video
I'm glad you liked it! I really enjoyed my conversation with Adam. Thanks for watching!
This is AWESOME Ron, THANK YOU for this one, Adam is cool & really down to Earth, Great video for Us Weatherby Lovers, this is why you’re No.1 !!
You're very kind. We had a lot of fun, having Adam on, and I'm glad you enjoyed the conversation. Thanks for watching!
Ok, I really enjoyed this! Adam’s such a humble man, love his company!
Adam Weatherby is a good man in a good company and he is articulate and intelligent obviously.
Great show Ron, Adam is very interesting to listen to.
A lot of great information .
Thank you for doing this one.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching!
Good video. I bought a 340WBY back in 1991. Its a cannon. Trajectory of a 7mm Mag with the Energy of a 375 H&H with a 250 gr. bullet!
Wow, I'm very impressed, this guy knows his stuff, don't see that often these days in many businesses that the owner know so much about their products. Was already a devout weatherby owner/shooter, keep up the great work guys

I really love these interviews, good job Ron and Adam
Thanks for watching!

You must have had a great childhood dreamt of African safari and built a 585 nation for it but sadly never went over
I'm currently in my mid 60s and Weatherby has been known to me for many years, but I never put one in my ownership until lately. With lots of pleasure, I currently have a Mark V Backcountry 2.0 in a 280 AI . I like where Weatherby is heading and wish them the best in a very changing industry.
Great show 💯💯😁💯😁💪💪👍👍👍👌👌👌
Dear Ron,
What a wonder interview!
Sincerely,
Nate Smith

Of all the thing weatherby, I own a element shotgun in the cerakoted grey with the black stock. I LOVE that shotgun. 26” barrel, sling studs, oh man. Does great for me on quail, doves, rabbits, waterfowl etc here in Arizona. Great product
Sounds like a great gun. Thanks for watching!
@@RonSpomerOutdoors-Podcast thank you for the videos!

Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for listening.
What an interesting interview Ron. Learned alot about Weatherby. Outstanding!
I'm glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching!
Very good points. Accuracy is the main thang.
Very true. Thanks for watching!
Each to his own but I have a weatherby and I still appreciate it's beauty over its chambering. I hope weatherby still continues to make beautiful (wood stocked) rifles.
Good interview and discussion.
Very good video, really enjoyed this ron.
I'm glad you liked it. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for this one Ron, Adam seems very down to earth. Very interesting! Boy I need a Weatherby!!😅
My 257-Weatherby, 300-Weatherby and 340-Weatherby rifles have never let me down.
I have a .243 Mark V Hunter and it has a fantastic barrel. This gun shoots .3s and .4s with a handload that I was lucky enough to develop with the first bullet and first powder I tested. I'm a Weatherby fan.
Love all the models. MARK V, VANGUARD, AND 307. 257 AND 300 wby, well what else would one need, right?😊
Just had a Weatherby Mark V Accumark in 30-06 built from their Custom Shop. What a great hunting rifle……
Great video, great guest! Love Weatherby!
Well Done Well Said.. Enjoyed this one very much..
Now dont be like everyone else n forget to get send me to tests out.. Ok 😂
God Bless All
Years ago you could invest in the bank of bolder co.and get a mark v my grand dad did this got a 7mm weatherby mag it's mine now and its my go to rifle.
Glad you enjoyed the show!
Ron, great interview.
Great video Ron!
One of the best interviews I have seen in a long time.i just picked up a weatherby mark v weather tech lt in .257 weatherby mag.good job weatherby and good job on interview mr.spooner.
What a great interview! Thank you
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching!
Great interview!
Great video! I have had nothing but good luck with the few Weatherby rifles I own both vanguard and mk5.
Great podcast!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching!
luv my wood-stocked Vanguard .270 !
Wow, what a great video. I learn something which was the RPM line is made by Weatherby. I guess I should’ve known this however I didn’t. And I am an active reloader.
I have to say that I love the Mark V they built as a tribute to U of Wyo. Go Pokes!
This is a a very very good video…..👍✌️
Excellent interview! 👍👍
Thanks, Ron, and thanks Adam! Great interview, great rifles…still hunt with my Mark V I bought in 1974, on my 3rd barrel
I’m a big fan of their knives too. They are the real deal.
