Hello Marieka, love your channel. you're the first one I check for homeschooling tips. I am very interested in Gather Round homeschool but I just can fully understand how it works. I am new to homeschooling. I have 1 son, He's in Kindy. Would really appreciate if you can help me understand how it works.
    1. how do you choose which units to use? Do you use them all?
I am a bit confused on how it works for multiple children given that each of the children has a different target(by target what I mean is the Govt requirement that they need to learn each year). I know there are different workbooks for each level but how do you make sure that all of the targets are met for each child. Do you check the scope & sequence for each unit for each level of your child and compare them against Gov't requirements?
    2. What happens on the second year of homeschooling? Will you use the same units and just increase the notebook level for each kid?
If you won't repreat the same units on the second year, wont they miss out on some topics? like for example, right now a child is on [Early Reader] level using units [A,B,C]. On his next year - [Early Elementary], he will use different units-[D,E,F]. Won't the child miss out on the lessons in units [A,B,C]'s [Early Elementary]? How does this work? Is it better to repeat the units?
    3. Lastly, don't some lessons require order? How will you know which units to take first? For example, before a child can write a sentence, he/she must learn the basics of spelling, grammar rules, etc.
Reaaly hope you can shed light on these. Thanks in advanced.

Thanks for watching my channel. I will do my best to answer your questions...
      1. I am semi doing the units in order as they are presented on the website. Sometimes we do not want to do one of the unit studies so we just skip it and move on to the next one. However you do not have to do them in order. We only do 4 unit studies a year (one a school term). I do not check them against the education department scope and sequence. You do not have to follow the govt, you need to cover all of the subjects but you do not have to follow their suggestions about what to do, they are just recommendations.
      2. As we only do 4 unit studies a year there are plenty units to do so we do not have to repeat the units for awhile. They will not miss out on any skills as they are covered multiple times in the unit studies. If you feel like your child is struggling in a certain area then you can add in some extra work to the unit study to help them in that area
      3. You start your children off on the letters and numbers units, then the ready to ready program then you move onto the other unit studies. In the ready to read program they are learning about writing sentences and early gramma. if they are older and you move straight into the unit studies then they already have some gramma skills and it should not be a problem.
I hope that was helpful, let me know if you have any more questions😊

Hi Marieka, how does your son find the middle school curriculum? My daughter is easily bored by quite a few curriculum packs I’ve purchased so we quit before getting to far in.

My son has enjoyed them so far. He is an easy going kid though and will just generally do what I give him so I am very fortunate.
You could always involve her in the picking of the unit study so that she can study something that she is interested in and then just purchase one unit study at a time so that you can try it out before investing too much

Hi! Does your state require your kids to learn a foreign language? If so, have you tried using Duolingo with them?

We are required to learn a foreign language but only for grades 4 and 5. We have not used Duolingo
