I love how one of the chairs is missing the cross. We have the exact same chairs and someone rocked on one and it fell and snapped on the backrest :P. Good old nail gun and glued together atm :P
We have a few that we have repaired and some that are just beyond repairable. I though my kids were just hard on furniture so I’m glad to hear I’m not the only one with broken chair’s 😂
Great video thank you
Thank you for all of your videos. We are starting homeschool next year. So it has been great watching your homeschooling journey. Any advice for very active kids that don't sit still for long? I will have 1st grader and 2nd grader next year. Both boys. Thank you.
You are welcome, so glad you are enjoying them😊 As a boy mum myself I have had lots of experience with wiggly boys! My advice is to go slow, you do not have to do all the things at once. Pick a literacy and math program and then add in fun stuff for all the other subjects. Just do short sharp lessons, just work for 20 minutes on something and then take a short break or switch to something else. At that age you only need to do 1 to 1 and 1/2 hours of school a day. Good luck!
😊
I love your DITL videos Marieka :) This video is great. Hope you're feeling better soon!
Thank you so much!!

Your videos are always so helpful. Thank you 😊
I think I saw in a previous video of yours that you were using The Big Book of Birds notebook companion? I just wondered if you liked it? I'm considering it for next term. Thank you!
Hi there! I have not used the that one but I have used the Ocean Anatomy notebook companion and we enjoyed using that one
Thanks for this video :) I'm using SOTW vol.1 for my first grader and was planning on using it until the end of the year. However, I would like to add some Australian history too and am wondering how to fit it in. Did you do Australian history after finishing SOTW?
I have done Australian History along side using SOTW. I usually just do one term of Aus history each year
@@Mariekalake Sounds good! Thank you for your reply!
This video was super helpful Marieka. I'd been looking online for detailed videos on how to do SOTW lessons and I must say your video was the best and most helpful. Thank you!!

Hello! We are a CM in Australia. I have a hard time finding living books relevant to Australia. Any recommendations?? My son is grade 1! We were doing Ambleside online but he just isn’t engaged with a lot of their books

@@Mariekalake Thank you very much!!
Hi Marieka, thank you for your channel! Do you use a laptop or ipad/tablet for maths online? Highly considering homeschooling but my kids don't have tech so looking at recommendations for maths online. Thanks, Kat.

@Mariekalake thank you!

Wow you are a lifesaver! Thank you! ❤❤❤
You're welcome!
Do you think this is a good starting book for someone whose wants to start learning about politics? Also, do you know what to read next after this one to build on the knowledge?
Really enjoying your content! I’m going back and forth between G&B language arts and gather round for next year. How would you use both and do you still use gather round or have you replaced it with G&B?
You can totally do the two together in fact I would recommend it! I would use a unit study from GR and complete the lessons and then add in math and language arts from G&B. It would be easy enough to add in one days lessons on to the end of the GR notebooks each day
It says it's currently unavailable on Amazon. Is there any PDF version of this book on the web ?
Im not sure sorry
Hi Marieka, Thank you so much for this video. Can I ask what the name of your printer was again? Also you mentioned your son doing the UCAT - is he hoping to do medicine/dentistry? Can you advise how he is studying to get into these degrees via homeschool as I thought homeschooled kids can’t do WACE (a total bummer in my opinion)?
Hello 😊 my printer is an epson eco tank. I think maybe you miss heard me, my son is doing/using Euka (not ucat). Euka is an online education program
@@Mariekalake thanks Marieka 😊
Thank you for providing this valuable content!
Glad you enjoy it!
Really enjoyed your walk through of the book . Thank you .
Glad you enjoyed it!
Absolutely love it Marieka!!!! Thank you for sharing
Thanks for posting! Is an actual teacher grading any of the work and providing feedback? Especially in subjects like English where answers aren't always just a yes or no or is it all graded by the parent/child?
There is no one grading or giving feedback. There are answers provided and the program does mark it as well but it is up to the parent to check the work.
Great resources. We especially love the who’s who books. Thanks for sharing. Just subscribed. Love your channel. I also have a channel and would love to be friends and connect.
Love 6our approach to home-schooling. Thanks for sharing. My son absolutely loves space and everything flying. We are doing space study ourselves .we also do lapbook on space. My son actually asked me to suggest that you should watch movie documentary Apollo 11, real footage about landing on moon. very interesting
Thanx for doing a flip through of these, been eyeing them but wasn’t sure if I would like them, they look amazing. Definitely want to get them
Hi Marieka, I noticed you moved away from gather round...any particular reason?
We loved using it but when my last baby came along last year it just stopped working for us. I was finding it too difficult to gather all the children and me at the same time to do our school work and i just needed the children to have work that they could complete independently so I decided to change things up. Also I felt like I wanted a better literacy program for them too then what Gather Round was providing.
@@Mariekalake totally understandable. I have been using GR with TGTB alongside for LA. I just skip the LA from GR and sometimes the geography bit from the TGTB. Anyways, thank you for your videos. Helps me a lot to know what other aussies are doing. I would love to try some of the books you are using but we are serving in Indonesia so we can only get digital materials.
Thank you so much for this video Marieka. I enjoy watching your videos, they're very helpful. I love your minimalist approach to homeschooling! Thanks also for all the books you recommended :)
Hi Marieka! I have the same printer and I agree it’s great. Which pdf program do you use to save and print your good and beautiful curriculum? The reason I ask is I’ve had trouble opening and printing a couple of the pdfs from various levels. Thanks! Another great video 😁
Thanks for watching! I use Adobe Acrobat Reader and I don't think that I have had any problem with that. My hubby is a tech wiz though so any time I do have trouble he sorts things out for me 😊
Absolutely love your ch. I homeschool a highschooler too. It’s always nice finding others that homeschool
Thanks for watching!
Hi, I'm in the process registering, I'm stuck with 3 forms required by HUE. (Summary programs etc) where do I find them if I payed for Government report creator? Thanks for any help
Hi there😊 I do not use the Government report creator so I am of no help to you sorry, just try customer support through Euka. They have been super helpful whenever I have needed to contact them
Hi there love your videos! I have a question to ask: I’m an Australian currently living in the US, and I was thinking about coming back to Australia to be with family and I also want to homeschool my kids, but I did some research and found that there are regulations for homeschooling across all the states, compared to the little to no regulations here in most states of the US. Have you found there to be any limitations at all from the government on your ability to homeschool in Australia? Thanks in advance!
Hi there😊 Thanks for watching! I live in WA I have had no issues with regulations. I can homeschool my children in any way that I choose and my moderator has been great. She just comes once a year and i tell her the programs/book that we have been using and show her a few work samples to prove the children are progressing and that is all I have to do.
@@Mariekalake That’s so awesome! Are you required to teach your kids topics like evolution and big bang theory the way the government requires? Or can you teach it your way? I just want to make sure I have all the info I need to make an informed decision, thanks in advance 😊
@@siopulutua no you do not have to teach them that, the topics you choose to teach your children are up to you and how you implement them are up to you as well. For science it is not so much about the topics you choose it is more about teaching them scientific process and understanding, how to conduct experiments, critical thinking etc.
Hi Marieka, thanks for your content. Do you have a video how you schedule the other resources around a unit study? Eg you do a gather round unit study for the term, how long do you dedicate to the unit study per day and then where do you fit the extras in? I'm getting my head around unit studies! Also i gather that you choose a unit study based on the WA curriculum outcomes so you would at some point cover HASS and Science outcomes in the years unit studies or supplement with read alouds like for Aus history etc? Thanks in advance!
You are welcome, thank you for watching and supporting my channel😊 I no longer use unit studies but when I was using them I would choose one unit study and do it for the whole term. The unit study would cover all the learning areas and I would just add in a few extra things. We would spend an hour to an hour and a half on the unit study and then add in one or two extra things after completing the unit study each day. The two other things would only take 40 mins to complete so we were doing about 2 to 2 and a half hours of work a day. The type of things I would add would be math (as math was no included in the unit study) and any extra work my children needed so if they needed extra writing practice then I would add that in or if I needed to add in extra Australian history stuff then I would add that in. You do not need to make sure they follow along exactly with the Aus curriculum. I hope that answer was helpful!
@@Mariekalake thanks heaps !
Thanks for this Marieka. We have signed our 12 year old daughter up to Euka today. This video convinced us to investigate Euka further and we are feeling really optimistic about it. Thank you
So glad that it was helpful😊 hopefully she enjoys it
Thanks to Emily for sharing her work! Our kids love Story of the World too!
Thankyou for this video, very informative for someone just starting this journey, there is so many American mums doing these kind of videos it’s great to see an Australian doing great simple helpful content . 🙏🏻
You are so welcome!
agree 😄
Thank you SO much for this video Marieka! This was so helpful and informative. Thank you also for showing what you do for Story of the World too. Your daughter's notebook looks amazing :)
Glad it was helpful!
Do you have an Amazon store front or a link to what printer that you use? I’ve heard some mixed reviews about the Epsom printer that the quality isn’t good and there’s lines through the pages? Have you had that issue?
I don't have an amazon store sorry. I love the eco tank, every now and then the lines come across the page and that just means the header needs a clean and you just choose the function to clean header on the printer and it will do it for you. It is just a maintenance issue and most printers will have issues like that
Great video, thanks! Is it free shipping to Australia for the tech boxes?
Thank you😊 unfortunately the free shipping is just for the US and not Australia
Are you still using Jump In for writing or have you completed writing?
We are not using Jump in any more as I feel like writing is covered enough in the Good and Beautiful literacy program
One of the reasons why we're after HS is we want individualised and tailored education at our own pace. I'm curious how Euka actually meets those needs?
When you sign up for a program you are signing up to complete the work that they set. There is flexibility in how much of the work you choose to complete and when you complete it. You can move at your own pace through the curriculum. It is set out into 5 days worth of work for 10 weeks but you can complete them at any rate as there is no time limit on it or no external person waiting for you to hand it in or mark it. Hope that makes sense😊
Hi from QLD Australia, however I'm originally from the UK and looking into homeschooling. They call it Kindy, Prep and then grade 1 here which is same as WA? I feel a bit stupid..how does this translate for some of the American resources you use. I've got muddled with different countries terms. For instance is Grade 1 Aussie Prep? Thanks for all your videos!
It can be very confusing! Yes here in WA it goes kindy when the children are 4/5 years old, pre primary when they are 5/6 years old and grade one begins when they are 6/7 years old. The American system is similar, their first grade is when children are 6/7 years old. Often they have pre school and kindergarten as well but that is before the children turn 6/7 years old. If you are looking at curriculum and you don't know which level to start at have a look if there is a placement test your child can take and then that should place them are the right level
Hello, where is the link to the website? I am incredibly interested after watching the video.
The link to the website is in the description of the video 😊
Hi Marieka, thank you so much for this video. It was very helpful. I'm using the first volume with my first grader right now. We started using it at the start of term 2 but because she's so interested in reading the stories and doesn't like to stop at one chapter, we're already halfway through the book. I gave her some sheets here and there to answer a few questions on some of the chapters, but for the most part it's just a read aloud, maybe a craft, and discussion questions. I was thinking of giving her some more sheets to add to her history portfolio about ancient Egypt, since she only did very few questions/writing on that topic. Do you think it would be ok to pause and go back and do a bit more on a previous topic (eg ancient Egypt) and then return to where we are currently up to?
It is a great resource, I am glad that she is enjoying it. Personally I think it is totally fine to go back and go over something and then return to where you were at
@@Mariekalake Thank you so much for your reply, I appreciate it :)
I would never allow my child to read the boy and the striped pyjamas. Let alone in yr8. Its way too horrific of a story. This is why going with mainstream things can be challenging and finding age appropriate books that arent forced on us through curriculum.
Just to clarify this is for year 10, grade 8 would have a different text to read
If we shy away from history we are doomed to repeat it. My 6yr old knows this story, it’s very appropriate for year 10.
Why was Palestine replaced with Israel? That's too bad 🤯
Thanks Marika, I purchased these books a while ago and haven't had the chance to look at them properly. ❤
Amazing! Would these be good for age 4-5?
The nature studies would be great for a 4/5 year old
Thanks for sharing!! Going to get these for sure :)
So exciting!
