London was in Michael's opinion disappointing. He decided to come back in 2016 to realize his true capabilities and to leave the sport on his own terms and on a high note
Once again Phelps shows the importance of underwater time. Watch his turn during the 100 Freestyle. Amazing. I witnessed Phelps break the WR 200M Butterfly in Indianapolis IN in 2009 and it wasnt his stroke that won it, it was deffinatly his underwater stream line
Collin Wharton He didn’t stop he still swam it at 2012 but didn’t even medal said he hated the event because of how hard it is to train for and all the pain you get from the 400im
Never discount a champion. And Phelps is a champion among champions, but this is going to be one of his toughest events because of Lochte. He has little competition in the 100 and 200 fly and I think he'd take the 400IM, but this and the 200 free, whilst I think he should go in deservedly as favourite, will be tough, even for him.
@TheBaller1219 : It means he wore a suit with the number 105 on it. Of course, when he's swimming, he's pushing it along. Hence, 'pushing a 105'. You gotta use your brain every now and then.
to answer ur question tallicAgrl9051, Ryan lochte had a bad stomach virus after the first day. which hindered his performence, i think a couple of other american swimmers had it too but i forgot who they were.
Its not about having better underwaters, I think both are equal at their prime. Being able to do that underwater at the 350m meas he had plenty of gas left in the tank, wich made the diference
@TableKeys621 Agree, but lochte seems to have out turned him in recent times... I think he'll be hard to beat in 200IM in London, he's better at bk and brst than Phelps, and equal in free. phelps seems to have edge over the 400 (is he going to swim it tho?)
The breastroke was waaay overestimated. I'd say they'd go at least a 1:10 to be practical meaning that another 3 seconds can be cut off the fly and 4 off the backstroke and the last second split down or cut off the free. If i recall correctly, phelps split a 1:13 at athens for the breaststroke leg but 1:05 seems far too optimistic. 200 breaststrokers don't even come back at that speed and, though phelps is great, he ain't a breaststroker and have already swum 200 metres worth before that leg
Madonna...c'è chi dice che la distanza che separa quei due dal resto dei finalisti in questa gara sia lo distanza che separa atleti puliti da atleti "meno puliti". Sarà vero?
He's good at breastroke but he's not good enough to be an olympic competitor. Most IMers are plagued with breast being their weakest stroke, Lochte is not one of them so it makes him appear a lot better at breast than he actually is. Not to say that he isn't good at it at all, but he wouldn't stand a chance against Kitajima or Brendan Hansen.
best race in mens 400 IM history
Phelps is a completely different person in this race (as opposed to in London 2012). He looks so composed and determined.
London was in Michael's opinion disappointing. He decided to come back in 2016 to realize his true capabilities and to leave the sport on his own terms and on a high note
@@CarlsCozyCorner He was depressed
@@dragos9134 I know. I was just saying that Michael didn't want to end his career on a low note
7:11 Nicole Johnson casually cheering there on the right, she’s now Phelps’s wife.
Yo that’s insane
I think they were dating on and off for a long time.
That last turn by Phelps is so insane.

@@billybob6604 he did stop it for a while, but 6 months before 2012 he put it back in. I don't know why, but he did...
No his best event was his 200 fly
William Hamilton obvs not since his world record has been broken in 200 fly. The only world record of his that still stands is his 400 IM
No his best event is the 200 IM. The 200 fly is his signature.
I love how Lochte was still under the World Record even though he backed off in the last 5 metres
@adisturbedswimmer95 the Beijing IM wasn't a race, it was a MP against the clock. This was a race.
Lochte! I love you!!
so pumped for this race in london
hes always focused, something i need to work on :)
Fuck yeah man, I know that when these olympics start I'm gonna be glued to my television screen haha

Damn they both rocked that so hard
thanks a lot for the explanation
His mom is awesome!!!
There used to be a video of the interview Lochte and Phelps gave after this race but I can't find it.
Is there a 200IM video?
I feel bad for the rest of the field, nobody can beat these two monsters.

Michael phelps is incrediable
anyone else as excited as me for this year??

Phelp has a better underwater dolphin than lochte. juz look at the 350m turn
phelps HAD*
Spyreto no has better underwaters
@@billybob6604 2011 200m freestyle 150m. Lochte has better underwaters, Or he at least developed to have better underwaters.

what a battle!
Wow this was in Omaha Nebraska? That’s awesome (I’m a Nebraskan)
Omaha is the venue of all Olympic trials.
Whats the song when they walk out and its also playing when there getting interviewed
God look at the third place time...almost 7 seconds behind. Thats forever.
haha i love his moms rection at 8:15
@Swimmer8012 you swam there?
@mc1703 no, the olympics was

what was the song???
skip to 2:33 for the event like it if you like it
what do you mean split? What does that mean?

fuck what's the name of the song when there introducing the swimmers?
@TableKeys621 pretty sure he did not break the WR 200M Buttferfly in Indianapolis he broke it a world championships
i bet the fastest ryan or phelps could do long course is like 1:03 or something which wouldn't really be competitive
@funkyfreshxx huh????
Hes retiring after the olympics this year
Ooofff, how this had aged...
maybe his underwaters are drastically shortened from last year because he's wearing the legskin
epic
To keep the second one on their head.

I would like to report a shark sighting
I get to swim in this pool every day
This isn't a permanent pool....
Why do swimmers have to wear 2 caps????
pizzaboy6877 because if the top cap falls off then another one on
Not only that, but to keep the goggles in place.
I don't care what anyone says.... Phelps > Lochte
Wow you are so alone on that opinion.

Ryan Lochte disliked this.

@Master Pole record LZR wins phelps
Mehmet Ozturk the suits in 2008 weren’t close to how they were in 2009. Even using conversion tools Phelps’s record still stands
