  • It's one of those stupid little things that happens to all us. Maybe we left a light on, maybe the old battery finally gave up. With most cars, accessing the battery is straightforward. On the early Porsche 996 911, you can simply pop the cable actuated trunk release and you're looking right at the battery. However, with the facelifted 996.2 Porsche replaced the cable actuated trunk and hood pulls with electric switches. Not a problem for normal operation, but if that battery runs out of juice the switches are completely useless.
They created a little workaround. Remove the fusebox cover in the driver footwell. There's a red piece that slides out you can attached a jump pack to. Slide it out, apply power, ground on a bolt in the doorjamb, now your switch will work. You can open your trunk, and finally access the battery!
