It's a testament to how good a player is when you're finding so few videos of them getting knocked back. Eben is obviously an incredible player but as this video shows he's not invincible. I've tried to stay clear of cheap shots and bad tackles

Ehh as a South African I believe Nobody who plays rugby is not going to get tackled heavily in rugby so anyone can get smashed at any time no matter their status/reputation and size. I guess that's what makes rugby a beautiful and underated sport to play.

Usually there's a couple moments from every game he plays that you can pick from, Etzebeth is the classic case of all bark and no bite tbh.

Lots of times Etzebeth got handled, the autumn 2018 game Sinckler decimated him and in the recent autumn the replacement French scrumhalf dumped him, honestly they all get dusted. Sinckler got smashed by Marx in 2021, thing is Etzebeth wiil get smashed get up and then continue to dominate the game and the other players, he's powerful in the initial contact but his biggest strength is post contact he applies a lot of brute strength with an element of endurance, ragdolls everyone to the ground and is a nightmare in scrum and maul.

Some good tackles. These are big men who are capable of these things. Best way to play the South Africans is to match their aggression and hold your nerves in the final ten minutes. Quite a lot of Springbok opponents seem to defeat themselves for some reason. World rugby will be very different when the emerging countries develop big game mentality.

4 times Etzebeth got done by 4 people his own size or as strong as him and one by someone half his size playing for Georgia, not a peep out of him. Had it been a scrum half or winger he'd turn into the big hard man.

Seems to me in most of these Eben is off balance - the Hooper 'hit' is anything but, more a sneaky lift timed well as Eben is in his stride.
Also, the fact is Eben just takes the hits and does not moan or cry foul.
He has always been a credit to SA and the type of player who wins them a few points before the match has even started and the opposition has learned he will be playing.

At least South Africa can't take credit for the fact that Ireland have never gotten past the quarters. As for in Japan, the only difference between both sides was South Africa were lucky to face New Zealand in the group stages while Ireland had to play them in the knock outs. Both lost.

From a Saffa, the biggest one was missed. When Eben was young Bismark Du Plessis almost bumped him off the field. Was in a Sharks vs Stormers game. Just to mention, he is currently the best lock in the world, by far actually....
