I grew up on this as well. Born and raised in Mississippi. Some have told me this is a very basic way of making soup (with hamburger)....it’s just what we’ve always used. I like cabbage in mine as well but that’s the beauty of soup, you can what you got. Great video!
MS boy here too - NW part of the state, all my life. Been eating this 45 years! I like to make it with ground venison/deer burger, even "stew meat," small chunks cut from the neck, shoulder, even HQ. The ONLY tiny little difference is I don't season the meat before browning it, because pouring off the fat pours off the seasoning, too. And I always use a little Worcestershire sauce near the end! But that's not enough difference to matter. Great video!
This looks really good!! It was nice that you did the presentation in under 5 minutes!! Alot of RUclips cooks would have taken 3 or 4 times that amount of time....👍👍👍
Man oh man!!!! I could almost smell that cooking through my computer! you are definitely correct saying its mighty fine!!!!!! I have to write this down!!!
When I was a kid I grew up on it too..and that's how I make my soup today. I add a few bay leaves. And some cumin. Have wonderful week. God bless always. ✌🎄🌟👍 now that is stick to your ribs mighty fine.
Oh this is one of my "single man" gourmet meals from many years ago around Atlanta and up in the Helen area! Now it's a great meal for throat cancer survivors as we can cook it longer to soften everything down to bursts of easy to swallow bites! Nothing wrong with soft and creamy carrot slices if cooked just right! And taters you can never overcook! Yeah, even when they breakdown into the soups base! Green beans and peas are always soft and easy to get down and cook down to another soft food with bursts of flavor. Good eatins I'd say! Blue Sky's and Safe Journeys!
There are many reasons to be addicted to your show...the food never fails! And it's heartening to hear your family sounding happy in the background. Happy holidays to y'all....and I'm not mocking you, we say y'all down here. Kentucky gal, now in SC.
Howdy howdy!! How’s my favorite southern gentleman? So glad you shared this recipe with everyone. Talk about a southern throwback recipe... and it truly is “mighty fine!” I hope you’re have a great holiday season so far and merry Christmas to you and your family. Xo
Exactly how I make it and grew up on, just made this recipe a couple weeks ago, it's such a perfect meal especially around this time of year, thank you for sharing!!! Right on with the garlic powder, garlic makes everything better 😋
another great one love it now if u don’t get full from these recipes then there’s something wrong because they will fill you up lovely ,lol great job 👀 looks delish😋😋😋😋😋👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👍👌👍👌😍😍😍✌️
Need a pan of cornbread with that!😉 Mom did this all the time. There's no telling what would end up in it since she usually did it on a Sunday night to clean out the fridge from all the week's leftovers. Mac and Cheese, leftover vegetables, pinto beans, rice, etc... - but the base was always similar to what you did.
Me too! Today had spinach and cabbage! Just delicious with some homemade rolls or if less inspired, garlic bread! I always end up with too much and I’m able to take a couple of meals to my elderly neighbors! And could not do without The Better Than Bullion Beef stock. Adds such depth of flavor. I never use potatoes, but rutabaga . Everyone thinks it’s potatoes, but gives ANY soup this amazing flavor, and tastes like potatoes when cooked in the stock. I have fooled the masses, and so good for you!
I lived in Alabama and Georgia for a few years. Now I'm back home in Minnesota. Your videos remind me of those mighty fine days eatin southern BBQ. Love your channel.
That's some good eating right there. Mmmhmm! You nailed it! Here in Pennsylvania we make what we call stuffed pepper soup. It's real good. Can't go wrong with ground beef. Good job!
I'm from the north and my mom made something very similar to this. Chopped meat soup. She used canned veggies with the juice and used Campbell's tomato soup. Delicious.
My husband has a version of this. We call it 'dads stew'. I normally do the cooking but every so often he will tell me he's fixing dinner. We all know it's his stew. Mine is good just not the same as his. Maybe because I didn't have to cook it. But it's better.
It looks really delicious TCS! I grew up on a couple of different variations of this dish. Mama was a simple down home southern cook who's food would make ya tongue slap ya eye teeth out! She called everything even close to these dishes goulash lol. There's almost no possible way to mess it up, unless you forget about it and burn it. I don't recommend that.😋
This is almost identical to my mothers recipe. She didnt use worcestershire sauce. I tweaked it just a bit. I cut the tomato sauce back and compensated with spicey v8....I normally make a large stockpot full so i also use a mix of diced tomatoes, tomato juice and spicey v8....This is such a wonderful soup for the cold months! I grew up on it. Mama served it with cornbread and sweet tea. Without fail.
this is pretty much the same way I make mine and love it but I do buy the bags of mixed veggies and they have everything in it so just dump that in the pan. like your recipes.
@@ThePohto it turned out soo much better then expected! Thank u again! Next time I may to add more water to make it more soupy that that was just a trail and error
you had me all the way up to the celery, taters, carrots, peas, etc. the can of Ro-Tel is compatible with almost anything, but more than likely nacho dip, burrito filling stuff. it's like you took american style marinara for pasta, and said: f*** the macaroni, let's go with soup. like you opened a cupboard door, and no noodles were inside. then, took a detour to soup land! fantastic! i like it! just throw some dried basil and marjoram in as well, and you've got midwestern style minestrone, minus canneloni beans. magnificent presentation, great post, keep up the good work. fantastic! excellent cuisine doesn't need to be over complicated to be totally awsome: it's just gotta be good. thanx for putting this out! remember: no rules in food
I replaced the tomato sauce with Hunts Manwich as I had no tomato sauce. It worked! LOL. Also gave it a little south of the border kick (Im in Phoenix) with some chopped jalepenos.
SOUTHERN MAN IN THE KITCHEN! MY WIFE LIKES ME IN THE KITCHEN MOPPING THE FLOOR AND WASHING DISHES, TAKING OUT THE TRASH. I DO MAKE MY OWN CABBAGE SOUP. MY WIFE IS A GOOD COOK BUT SHE CAN'T MAKE A MEAT LOAF FOR NOTHING. LOVE MY WIFE BUT SURE WISH SHE COULD MAKE A GOOD MEAT! GONNA TRY AND MAKE ME SOME HAMBURGER SOUP. THANK YOU FOR VIDEO!
Good gravy that is one hearty soup. Thanks for sharing
Love to hear the kids in background. Nice!!! All American family!! Mighty fine!! Lol
