This Portlander and Oregonian appreciates you taking time to discuss the way white nationalism is plaguing my state and how its racist history influences today’s policies
It's difficult for me to justify the idea of donating to a program that reaches out to the poor maligned, neglected white men. I'm white, and i'm nonbinary and trans, living in the rural Pacific Northwest. Men's issues are sadly underserved. Poor, rural communities are. It's so hard to get adequate healthcare here. It's a disaster. And yeah, the bonds of society are just so clearly breaking down. But also... i've been the target of violent hate by these people? I get that they're stooges; they're being manipulated into finding me a scapegoat. But my radical empathy only goes so far. I'm certainly not going to give some of my money to help them, when i could give it to trans youth instead. And when i, frankly, need some support myself. Obviously i know that's not what's being proposed. This is an extreme situation. It's just frustrating how tough this all is. I can't condemn helping... anyone but the bastardest of bastards. It all *does* contribute to the good. But i can't help but feel like helping the victims before the perpetrators just *feels* more important, even if it truly may not be the best utility in the long run, if you're willing to write off the victims.

Green Room is a phenomenal movie. Rest in peace, Anton Yelchin. 🕊

The West Coast is a stew of extremes. Everyone fighting for their dreams knowing they can’t migrate any further west.
