Hearing you changed from a nice Dell XPS to a Beelink and be really happy with it sounds really great. Althrough I prefer laptops, ultimately mini PCs are doing great, specially since the efficient and powerfull Apple M series, and AMD CPUs that forced Intel to get better (sweet moment in the CPU wars). Between Mini PCs, Beelink it's really doing it great. I think GTR7 in silver colour looks nice and will fit elegant in my own office environment. Dell, Lenovo and HP mini PCs equivalents cost much more for less. Since I own a small office I don't need the mass deployment support, and feels great to support a new brand.
The only doubt it's about getting the GTR7 or Minisforum UM790. I don't know if I should trust on Minisforum since they run problems with their small units, but from early reviews seems to be resolved.

they knocked nothing out of the park... when I go to their website I cannot buy bare bones. I am forced to buy their 32 GB ram and 1tb SSD. I would rather install my own. Those parts 'they supply' will be worthlessly cheap and I would rather put in parts I trust instead. Until I can get bare bones or they offer to source parts I trust I am not buying anything from them... and I doubt I will be the only one. And like others have said the "proprietary" power is almost a hard no on it's own. I am not spending that kind of money for something like this. It would be better to just buy a handheld and plug that up to a dock.

I said the power connector/supply is what was unique, not the USB port, please pay attention. And yes... USB ports are flaky... I have seen numerous USB ports and USB attached devices fail... a lot of them with problems surrounding the ports/connectors/controllers. To many are being made with cheap components so they fail often.
That said... I can live with USB power... I would rather they provided power over USB than the propriety madness but it will not change my opinion that USB is not a reliable interface.
Heck... USB is made so flimsy that you can brick a laptop over USB using a "USB Killer". It's one thing to be able to fry out the port... but the whole device?

As both a Beelink & Minis Forum customer, I will NEVER buy any product with a proprietary power supply connector. If anything happens to it, you have only one option for a replacement assuming these companies exist in a few years.
I wish you would compare Benchmarks with other products you reviewed. For viewers, the GTR7 has slightly worse benchmarks in EVERY category (Geekbench single/multi, 3D Mark, etc) than the Minis Forum UM790M. They are both relatively close so I'd just buy whichever one is cheaper. All else being equal, the UM790M has better performance. And for comparison, at these prelaunch prices the Beelink GTR7 = $789 and the Minis Forum UM790 is $699 (both with 32GB / 1 TB).
So why would anyone pay $90 more for a worse performing product? This is why your reviews should compare products. Right now it seems like the intention is to always remain super positive and direct people to the affiliate links to buy the product. I'd rather see you posting competitors in each class of product and showing which one is the best.

    Hi there.
    Just my 2 cents.
But see things like APUs...Even with current consoles (Switch/Xbox OneS/ PS5 and XboxOne on "Quality" Modes) aiming for 30fps some times, apart from competitive games and FPSs, you really should try and aim for a locked 30fps for single player type experiences in your benchmarks.
Forza, Red Dead and Cyberpunk are good examples. A lot of bargain basement gamers don't mind 30 fps if they can play the latest games (just ask Xbox One S users).
I'd love to see the graphics cranked up at 1080p or higher to see what these games can achieve on these chips.
I just think 1080p/30 fps is a more realistic target on APUs as opposed to the holy grail of 60fps.
    Know what I mean?
PS Love your channel. Watch almost everything you post. The latest handheld PCs really intrigue me. Keep being awesome.

Couldn't agree more. I have a LG monitor which can deliver 100 Watts. With two USB4/c at the back, it would be very handy.
      However, the specs say: USB4(40Gbps/TB3/PD100W/DP1.4)
There's no mention of PD/ALT-mode (the video out and powered by monitor), aka one cable solution.
Its main rival, the Minisforum UM780/790 does show this on their website: USB Port x2 (Alt PD). Sadly, only located on the front, which is fine for an external GPU, but less ideal for a monitor connection.
Anyhow, I'd like to see if the Beelink supports this too

I really like the design of Beelink Mini PCs. I recently bought a GTR6 Pro 7735HS which included a USB 4.0 port. It was terrific value for money. I originally replaced the installed Windows 11 Pro with a gaming focused Nobaru 37 Linux distro which installed out of the box. Beelink also provided good and prompt technical support when I needed to reinstall Windows 11 Pro. This new Mini-PC looks to be an excellent unit. I am really interested in the GTR7 Pro Ryzen 7940HS. The 2x USB-C ports are USB 4.0 on the GTR7 Pro 7940HS, is this also true for the GTR7 7840HS model?

According to their specs, the 2 rear USB C ports on the 7840HS model are indeed USB 4.0. The front is just listed as USB C so not sure on that one.

Tnx for review! It's interesting, if you will disable 2 cores or at least assign games on 6 of 8 games with some 3rd party app will it push its cpu or/and gpu clock higher and as result - higher performance? There is a small amount of games that needed all 8c/16t power, and AMD combining its top igpu only with 8c models.

Power consumption is also important for people who are 100% off-grid, so all of this computing and graphics power for under 100W it's really amazing. Is there even a CPU + external GPU that can equal or beat the 7840HS for 100W or less?

I have an Asus pro art usb-c monitor which has specs that say it can deliver a total of 90w over usb-c (higher than the usual 65w of other monitors). Would I be able to power this mini-desktop over the USB-C of my monitor, or does it absolutely require using the external plug?

I really don't get the magnetic power input, why not simply make it PD USB 4? PD can charge up to 130W now. And they should have tuned the power consumption to run on 90W and 65W so users can do one cable with more USB C monitor.

The magnetic power supply lead appears to be something you can bypass with different wiring. Is that something you can investigate to see if that is the case? Or is this a loaner that you have to send back? Proprietary power supplies or other components are a deal breaker for a lot of people. Brings up the bad memories of Compaq, HP, Lenovo, etc.

Powerful enough as a media server to stream 4K/120hz av1 and x265 media real-time while also functioning as a network backup DAS, plus plays the occasional game as a bonus. It's too pricey at the moment but I'll keep an eye out for price drops.
