Come on, it's not like the rigid high structure of hiking boots is meant to protect you from sprains or fractures or anything. Surely a guy hiking in socks is not going to starve in the wilderness with a broken ankle.

The best shoes in the world I've been using them for almost a year now and put about 800 miles in them and wow .they still look brand new

Sorry, but this cannot be a replacement for a hiking boot. Kick a rock by accident and you'll see your thumbnail out. This is a very nice and useful compliment, on the other hand, when you get your camping site set and just want to walk around, better than to get the boots or walk bare foot. Flip flops are heavy to carry too.
If you kick a glass and your thumbnail comes off, ... you're probably hiking on all fours :P Just kidding. :) I think you meant "toenail" :)
DDG Thanks for your comment! English is not my native language so I made funny mistakes like this. I looked after thumbnail and toenail meanings. In brazilian portuguese we use the same word for hand and foot, that's why I made that misuse.
It's all good. You probably speak more languages than me, so I just thought you would find it helpful. Interesting how some languages have the same word for both, tho! Cheers :)

Basically I was thinking about this exact concept, and by searching for sock-shoes I came upon Skinners. What a product!! Congratulations, now the sky is the limit for your product range.

Wear them at the airport to clear TSA faster. That's about it. You want to run in socks with no arch support? Have fun with that. They might as well shown a bunch of guys playing pickup basketball.
The foot arch does not need support, it's there to support your weight when walking, standing or running. You won't see arch support on bridges, the arches are the bridge's structural support. BUT a modern foot in modern shoes has lost most if not all of it's function, which means that a transitional period is required, which is at least 6 months, in practice it takes a couple of years, if not more. But it's totally worth it.

I love how they never explain how these socks are meant to protect your feet from all the rocks, glass etc. that's on the ground.
Because if you look at their youtube page, they have other videos showing that.
They are made so that you can go "barefoot" without being barefoot. They are especially useful for people with problems in the feet, because in this way the muscles of the feet are activated and this helps to solve the problems of flat feet or low arch of the feet. Don't expect them to cushion the walk or protect against uneven terrain, but quite the opposite - to feel the ground under your feet. 😉

Seriously my biggest concern would be the protection "that a sock can offer" so I hope you'll integrate it into your videos. That and temperature in colder climates. Great concept.

Running marathons is also not a good idea but doable but a real hike... good luck!
To hike in socks isn't bright, the hiking boots are heavy because they are made so you won't twist your ankle when moving around in rough terrain with heavy backpack.
If they are durable like a pair of Fivefingers they should be nice to have as gymshoes.

so the shoes are heavy and you should use the skinners iso the shoes in your backpack. what to do with the rollerblades you just took off? Hicking with socks? hope not in rocky terrain. idea is ok but only for city walks or so. or maybe at basecamp to relax your feet.

So they aren't waterproof, offer limited protection from rocks etc. They can't replace walking boots as you need the protection, that's why the boots are so large.

Make the skates portable. Don't lug around huge boots, it's the skates that are a pain.

I like the idea, honestly, but as a man who walks 25 km per day i wonder how this is going to replace my walking sneakers. The idea is nice, it's the material the Skinners are made what im not sure about.

Doesn't seem hygienic. Who knows what you're walking and stepping on when you leave the house. Could be fecal residue on the sidewalk you can't see with your eye. And throw them in the washer to get mixed with your clothes? I don't think so....
I get the idea though, of trying to incorporate "minimalism" by size reduction of the footwear. But I'd rather have my feet protected all around (includes the top of foot) with the "bulky/clunky" alternative. It all just seems too gimmicky.
Yeah, just wait that your cell phone or a tool drops on your foot and then you'd wish you had a proper shoe put on.

Skinners for footbraking would be nice but even skate shoes don't last long if you footbrake too often.
So i guess nobody lifts on the skinners team, hmm, toe covered shoes or socks... ah socks, its not like im around heavy objects that could potentially fall. Idoets. would have been better off selling it as a water shoe.

This is not correct ! The skinners I've ordered recently are not waterproof ! after 3 walks outside on pavement, there is a water leak in the sole. Bad quality product...

So these guys think that boots for hiking, running, etc. are made the way they are just because no one ever thought of socks with a sole? Where is the limit to their stupidity?
I'd love seeing someone dropping something on their feet with these on, or walking on a rocky trail accidentally stepping on a sharp rock. or stubbing their toe against something when out running. These socks are more useless than practical.
