Just listened on Spotify while out for a walk, life has been very all over the last month with a fire at work and realising how depressed I was but with work and life hiding my depression, been a very interesting month and this rings so true especially the part about people talking out, I felt everytime I wanted to talk, why do I want to make myself feel worse by talking about myself and thoughts in my head, it was my dad noticed I left a family party early that started it and he asked if I was OK and it was just like a wave off emotion, felt alot better after but the anxiety upto that piont was unreal, thankyou again for your great content 👌👍

Two successful, smart, caring men having an honest and much-needed conversation about mental health. As a mom of my 24-year old son, I appreciate the discussion and will open the door to conversations and genuine check ins. As always, Steven, your ability to create meaningful dialogue is impacting much needed change. Thank you both. 🙏🏻

Moved beyond words ☹️💔. Had a breakdown last year, still to do this day i could never find the words to explain how i felt/what i experienced. Roman hit the nail on the head. It was the lowest place i have ever ever been, and one i never want to return to. Roman was actually in Belfast in the documentary where i'm from, and although the documentary was about males, the same counselling place (Lighthouse) that was featured in the documentary was the place that saved my life and got to the route of childhood trauma that i never told anyone about. Almost a year later and i'm proud to say i've been medicated with antidepressants, completed counselling and in a much better place. Somedays are better than others, but now i can reason with myself and if really needs be ask for help. It's so true, it never gets better. You just learn to live alongside it and learn different ways of coping.
Lots of love to anyone suffering, please talk to someone about how you feel. You're not alone ❤

47:00 This is so important 🙏🏽
As someone who's struggled with depression
and anxiety I'm glad Roman said the responsibility
should be on friends and not the person struggling, to have that conversation about your mental health.
It's so hard to open up if you're afraid of being judged, and asking twice is a great way to show
that someone really wants to know how you're
doing. They're not just asking for the sake of it.

The discussion around mental health in school is so interesting, I worked in a welfare team of a school for 18-months or so and whenever I would explain to senior management that I had ‘protected time’ in my diary to run emotion regulation and mental well-being sessions with students who were struggling (predominantly young men) this time was always disrupted for me to remove a child from a classroom, or to support taking notes in a meeting… there was no priority placed over the support I was trained and brought in to provide the students

Depression doesn’t wear an uniform or have an enconomic, social or racial identity.
    My take from this?
    It takes a village to raise a child;
and a support system to keep him alive and well for as as long as possible.
This guy has so much awareness.
And him pointing out that girls deserve someone who will bother to text them is so fucking refreshing. Let’s be honest, if you can’t be bothered, why even entertain a relationship?
Be single, focus on yourself, have fun, and the time will come.
    Great chat. Making Mondays mind-full💙
    Thank you.

This hits hard with me. I have had friends who have committed suicide and have recently been suffering from depression and suicidal thoughts. I thought success Im my job and having a beautiful family would be enough to remain happy in life. But the more things that I managed to create and getting the things that I always wanted wasn't the answer it made things worse for me. I bottled alot of things up inside me. I have recently spoken out to family and friends and have been able to get the right support and feel so much better. Listening to this has made me realise that iam not alone in this and it massively encouraging to speak and not feel to proud to do so. Thank you for the great content and great guests.

I lost my brother to suicide /schizophrenia in 1997,mental health was not really spoke about back then, the pain that I felt was unbearable as I didn't have no one to talk to. I now suffer with, depression . I'm writing a book about it now. This podacest even though hard to listen to, it was spot on with every emotion, heart-felt and real.

A very close friend of mine took her life in 2015 and it was so inspirational to see someone bringing the topic of suicide to the attention of our minds, to understand the importance that it is our responsibility to ask our friends "are you ok?" and be really intent on getting a meaningful answer. Roman is such an inspiration to lots, mental health is such a massive part of life for men and women, the part about schools I'm not shocked at, as most schools refuse to accept bullying let alone mental health issues. As a parent you are the last to know about most things, even if you have a great relationship with your child BUT if you pay attention you will see different behaviours and patterns ...
Grieving is a long process that you will never get over, but each tear that falls, is a tear of learning to cope with the loss. Never listened to podcasts before.. so thank you Steven

This was so powerful. One of those podcasts where you get a bit lost in your imagination due to painting a picture in your mind of the events. I was intrigued about Joe and what type of person he was and what made him make that awful decision. It made me think about my own friends and question whether I ask them enough are they ok and replay conversations in my head.
Steven, your questioning was curious and interesting 🧐 things I was definitely thinking too. One bit of feedback though would have been good to give him a better introduction for people who didn’t know who he was.

"Especially in London" is such a 'London' thing to say. You only have to see the regional stats of suicide to know that's incorrect. Pressure from work or other is not worse when you happen to live in London. It's a dark place that has no boundaries.

Great talk. I have known super confident career mover & shaker succesful types with their life ahead looking rosey despite work pressures suddenly become shattered and crushed by career failure at the hands of toxic politically nasty industry people effectively destroying their reputation and careers, so hence often mental illness and depression is not somoething you are hardwired for geneticaly, moreso our modern society often does not offer a safety net for people who fall in such manner. The effect on the human ego of such life blows and the fear of becoming homeless due to loss of work and hence income can understandably be too much for what were formally known as 'strong' 'confident' 'leaders' in their respective feild of life. The MINDSETS of modern society (still laregely based on stale old patriachal dog eat dog principles) at large needs collective therapy and connection to core awareness and human empathy and compassion to allow for greater support structures in place for people who fall off their path in life.

I am shocked to see no other comments with what I am about to say... Can someone please check in on Roman and make sure that he is actually okay, because I'm not buying it. His body language, his demeanour, the way he answered questions, reading his micro expressions it was very clear to me that he was visibly uncomfortable throughout much of this interview. I don't feel like he is being true to himself, especially when answering how he was doing, you can see it in his eyes, he seems lost, whether that is from the grief of losing Joe or his own mental health struggles, he's not okay, compare him to the last 10 DOACEO guests and his energy is so low, it actually made me sad for him. With Steven's years of personal development and ability to read people, I would be SO surprised if Steven didn't pick up on it himself. This is not the Roman that we all know and love, I really hope that he can heal/find peace/do whatever he needs to, to find his mojo

It isn’t masculinity that’s toxic. It’s simply toxic attitudes and behaviour.

That incredibly rare case of a rock star Martin Kemp that got married to another perfomer Shirley part of Wham and that raised a normal child... Roman .. and his sister. But privilege still determined outcomes

Gosh, how awful that Joe and his friends/family were essentially left with theories about why he took his own life. I've had numerous periods in my life in the last 15 years when I've had suicidal ideation, intense at times - all consuming, physically and mentally excruciating. I've come out of those without medication/therapy. The latter should be sought out as I doubt I'm clear of them. During them I thought about things and wondered if I'd leave a note. I've spoken to close fam/friends so they now I've had bleak periods and I suppose then it wouldn't come without warning. But I never fully explain because I don't want to expose myself in that way. I don't want to expose thoughts that could in some way expose me and how I feel about myself as to some extent I feel it's unfixable anyway. But at least women find it easier to talk. I wonder what plagued poor Joe. Awful. Wonderful conversation here with Roman x

Having a famous father helps a lot as well . Otherwise he'd probably be working in footlocker nothing wrong with that but don't peeach when you have more opportunities than a brother from day one .

I have no idea who this guest is. I am 20 mins and still have no clue. Steven pls try and do a better job of introducing your guests properly. It’s getting a bit annoying.

He thinks the cause of male suicide is 'toxic masculinity' (which isn't a thing) and 'it's our own fault' I'm sorry but Ronan Kemp is not qualified to talk about male suicide.
I'm in my 40's, i've delt with depression, mild to moderate, to sometimes severe, to very rarely suicidal thoughts since I was about 12, Ronan has no clue about the trauma and circumstance of peoples lives that lead to depression and suicidal thoughts. I think it could be quite dangerous to have somebody on who doesn't know what he's talking about, you'd be much better off getting someone who has spent considerable time studying it, a psychologist or a mental health Doctor.
Also, i'm tired of hearing about social media and all the problems it causes and people shrugging their shoulders and going, what do we do about it? Social media isn't mandatory, there's a solution staring you in the face if it's causing you problems, switch the god damn thing off. I deleted all social media years ago, it's not rocket science.

Failed to acknowledge his privilege much like Molly mae did yet there’s no backlash. This supports what Steven says about double standards for men and women. Other than that it was a fairly good interview
