    People who think Houstonians are just complaining don't understand how much we pay for electricity and everything else. We are not wrong to expect services that we OVER-pay for.

      Chill out dude. I was without power for a month after Wilma in the middle of the summer. They can't move that fast ti fix these things. They are working really hard every single day to do so. Plus they got other companies from our if state helping too. Ya'll are so inconsiderate. They can't work magic. It's the way the electrical system is set up.

      @chrisgast please know what you're talking about if you're going to rebut me. Thats not even what i said. Not everyone can have generators where they live due to regulations. We pay for electricity and shouldn't have to wait excessively in dangerous temperatures for the people who rob us monthly to do what they promised to do.

      They had linemen from out of state come in to help, but apparently some weren’t able to do anything because they came from Union states and their union reps were asking for a pay rate that was too high and couldn’t come to an agreement with centerpoint.
      Houston suburbs are growing fast. Energy infrastructure is some of the slowest to develop in the US because it’s the industry that has the heaviest burden of necessary permits/registrations/regulations/restrictions through every step.
      If it wasn’t for the bureaucratic process required for our energy development, we would have much lower energy prices and an infrastructure that would be much more reliable.

It helped with small fans to help cool us but I didn’t anticipate 6 days. At most I thought possibly 3. Just like we are expected to prepare, CP should have prepared for the WORST case scenario. This is so very sad. Back in 2018 after a hurricane we were without power for 5 days, it was hot MOST everyone was outside cleaning up it was better to be outside than inside. What took so long was that re-routed the power from our area to the base and hospital. How they did that don't know wasn't until families with children who had medical devices need to use them complained to the county did they turn our power on. Know this is different just devastating. Being in her home with air most likely was a factor.

    Having No Power for AC in a modern INSULATED building is dangerous to the occupant. Because of the insulation, heat just builds up inside, with the plaster/drywall soaking many BTU's over time. Even with a Fan in the window at night, can not relieve that heat. A inside fan JUST MOVES HOT AIR. It is the breeze that makes you tink you are cooler (and that is only when below body temps)

    I don’t understand what is going on in Texas. In Virginia, after a major hurricane, I was without power for 15 days. It is not at all unusual to lose power and have to suffer through the heat and humidity that comes along with summer. It’s HOT in Virginia too! That is why you prepare for hurricanes. It’s called, self preservation!

    You're supposed to be able to register yourself as medically vulnerable especially if you're on supplementary oxygen but even just having a heart condition like CHF would require you to be in air conditioned environments, and they are supposed to prioritize repair work accordingly but of course no one actually knows how to register yourself as vulnerable or what evidence is required.

    • @nelvinlewis23

      There are no extra electrical poles... Limited gas because people are using their cars AC to survive. No food in refrigerator and in some cases no way to cook the food unless you have a propane tank or Barbecue pit. They are getting Hotel vouchers but no transport to the hotel....

    • @johnwang9914
      @johnwang9914 Месяц назад +1

      @@nelvinlewis23 Nobody mentioned electrical poles, just that there is supposed to be a way of registering yourself as medically vulnerable so that the utilities could prioritize their repair work however no one knows how to register themselves... As to vouchers for hotels and other measures, maybe there are organizations that do that, perhaps even the city but again that wasn't what my post was about as I was only saying how the utilities always say that you could register yourself as medically vulnerable and they would prioritize restoring the power to as many people in need as possible but of course do people even know how to do so. They say this on the news everytime there's a major outage but they never say how to register.

    • @anndennis7163
      @anndennis7163 Месяц назад

      that kind of registry sounds like a good idea, except I personally would not want my name on a list of vulnerable people because the 'wrong' people might make use of it in negative ways.

    Not having electricity sucks, but humans have spent almost our entire existence on Earth without air conditioning. They have running water, don't they? Who can't figure out how to jump in a cool shower? Wear wet clothes, outside in the shade, lying in the grass if the ants aren't too bad. Wear flower and leaf leis like the Hawaiians do. They "breathe" cool air on you.
    People need to remember how to live without electricity. One day, some day, the power is going out and it won't come back on for YEARS
    This woman died more from her mobility issues and lack of care than the heat.

    The Electric can ONLY be restored as fast as hundreds of workers can rebuild it! The storms had catastrophic effects on everything. Nobody's at fault for not getting your service back on yet, if it has not been restored yet. This was a Hurricane, everyone knew it was coming! Be prepared, ask for help, ahead of time. Have a plan and a backup plan or two! For the poor lady who last her life. RIP

    Its horrible that people are dying. Hirricane recovery always takes weeks, not days. We know this because thats the way it is every time a storm makes landfall. People should leave for another town that has power and go stay in a hotel with ac while the crews get power restored.
    If you dont have means to do that, call somebody til you make it happen. Dont just sit there and die in the heat. Go someplace cool!
