Depends on how you view her more eccentric moments. More often than not she comes across as either literal minded, or a genius ditz. I definitely agree with you on Pinkie. She's not an idiot. In fact, I think she may have an eidetic memory. In "A Friend in Deed," she can remember the birthdays of everyone in town. In "Sonic Rainboom," she finds the wing spell for Twilight after a single glance at the page. Also, I suspect that Pinkie Sense may be her way of processing observations while observing the world on a Sherlock level. She has the potential to be a genius, but her inclination is toward fun and parties. To put it another way, do you remember the episode of Pinkie and the Brain where Brain turns Pinkie into a bigger genius than himself? There are times I wonder if Pinkie Pie and Twilight will ever have an episode reminiscent of that.
I think Pinkie has been getting exaggerated in the newer episodes because of all of the new writers that were added this season. They seem to have their own interpretations of Pinkie's character, and don't quite understand exactly how she's supposed to be portrayed, but that's just my hunch. However, she's still my favorite character on the show, and the writers have yet to do anything to make her do something that I know she would never do. Amy Keating Rogers has said that Pinkie is her favorite character to write for, so I'm confident that the new episode will prevent her from turning into a brain dead child.

Traveling museums are actually a thing, the one that comes to mind is the haunted item museum about a year ago, it also had cameras set up so that people could watch the items at all hours and report any changes or happenings
I'm glad everything is better in your life. Sometimes having our own personal Discords sucks. I kinda liked it. It wasn't an overarching story advancer and really didn't develop any characters. But it was still fun. And I know I have to go back and watch again cause I bet there's a reference I missed in the Discord song.
So, I'm glad that here Fluttershy is revealed to actually take her friendship with Discord seriously. It's like the episode is kicking one of Fluttershy's worst portrayals(Keep Calm and Flutter On) in the balls, and I LOVE it! Yeah I took haft a point from my written review due to her scene at the train-station, a single balloon isn't enough for her to get that distracked and why would she ran after the train saying she'll never forget Fluttershy? Heard it was a ref to a love story where a person did the same thing to a person THEY LOVED so if Pinkie isn't inlove with Fluttershy it wouldn't be a good ref and even so SHE KNEW SHE WOULD BE COMING BACK THIS ISN'T RD GOING OFF FOR A WEEK FOR TRAINING! Discord giving Twilight the locket is an enormous Easter egg for those who came back to watch this after the Season Four Finale. Discord gave Twilight an object to prove their friendship, which is EXACTLY what she needed in the Finale. Discord also gave them their diary after bookmarking the objects they all received before he confronted Tirek. See where this is going? Discord knew how to defeat Tirek all along, and even helped Twilight months before she needed it. I always had doubts about his betrayal, but he knew what he was doing all along.
I'm confident about next week. Amy Keating Rogers has always been one of my favorite writers for Pinkie Pie. She knows how to make Pinkie funny without her just being "random" and "childish".
I'm just gonna say this now: "Pinkie is not stupid". That is highly debateable and has been in flux since the series started. She's often portrayed as stupid during the series. Kinda like how Starfire from Teen Titans used to flip between naive and just outright dense between episodes. Her acting like an idiot is not out of character. "She's is not a child" No, but she's certainly ridiculously childlike, and at times more childish than an actual child. Her acting like a child is not out of character, either. The problem is that there is a certain serious side to Pinkie as well, and that's what been absent for most of the episodes.

I think Amy K. Rogers would be the ideal person to write the Pinkie episode. Next to Larson I think she has one of the best grasps on Pinkies character as a whole. But really we can only say after the episode airs.
I think Brotherhooves Social is the closest to a Dave Polsky/Cindy Morrow fusion that we’re ever going to get. I know that episode was written by Dave Polsky alone, but there are still enough heartwarming moments showcasing just how much Big Mac cares about Applebloom. There’s also that moment at the end, which almost made me cry. Not many episodes made me both laugh and care so much, at the same time. While I prefer the more character-oriented sincerity of Sisterhooves Social, this episode is probably in my top 20 favorites of the show. BTW, this is before season 8, so you could expect that to change.
THANK you for that brief spiel on Pinkie Pie's character, that's a good way of summoning up what's wrong with how she's being portrayed as of late! Also, I'm fairly certain that there are traveling museums in real life, but I can't think of any at the moment. It's funny what you said about "Gary", though I'm not entirely sure if I can still read any personality out of him here... That thing you mentioned about Discord using Fluttershy's tactic of relying on kindness in one-sided relationships, it has me thinking... maybe what Fluttershy "taught" him is what he thinks friendship is all about... Oh gosh, if that's ACTUALLY what they're going for, I would be both very impressed and also kind of shocked that they outright acknowledged how much of a lousy set-up Keep Calm and Flutter On was. Oh, and Discord's "Glass of Water" song? I must have listened to it about 30 times since I originally heard the whole thing. Like, DAMN there's a lot to process out of that song! Lastly, I'm not that convinced that Rainbow Falls had a "terrible concept". It has a terrible execution, or at the very least, you could argue that much, but I don't think it was bad in theory.
The best way to make sure a character doesn't get flanderized is if the creator sets rules. Alex Hirsch does that for Dipper and Mabel, I think that is a pretty good idea.
Everyone seems concerned for Pinkie, myself included. She'll probably get her key next week since those episodes have the ponies name in them and that one is called "Pinkie Pride" Here's hoping she won't be an overly hyper, juvenile little moron for a change because I love Pinkie, she was always my favorite. The patio furniture and balloon jokes (I use the word jokes very loosely) were beyond stupid, c'mon writers.

Seulgi Kim Indeed. And in fact, she wasn't really all that flanderized in "Princess Twilight Sparkle" if you ignored the cut away gag. Then there's also the fact that that we've seen her act like she did in "Castle Mane-ia". This episode was really the first one to even BEGIN to flanderize Pinkie Pie. And thankfully, with the exception of "Filli Vanilli", the writers recognized the problem, and fixed it.
When Pinkie gets distracted by a balloon, that doesn't show stupidity, that shows a short attention span. That's like saying I'm stupid because I get distracted from reading in class just because I hear a creaking noise coming from the ceiling (which I tend to do.)

Honestly, after the way Pinkie was portrayed in "Filli Vanilli", I'd say that her behavior in this episode, as well as in "Princess Twilight Sparkle" and "Castle Mane-ia", seems a lot more appealing. You wanna know why? Because at least in those episodes, Pinkie's antics didn't make their respective story's conflicts worse and can be a little funny in their own way. Her behavior in "Filli Vanilli", however, when she was making Fluttershy's dilemma worse was just mean-spirited and cringe worthy to sit through. In short, I'd rather have an air headed but harmless Pinkie Pie than an air headed and insensitive one. And I'm pretty sure Mr. Enter would agree with me on this one.
I understand the complaints about Pinkie entirely. With things like what happened in this episode, though, I just convince myself that she has ADD and move on from it. I don't really see a problem with her being easily distracted. Childish and/or stupid bother me, but easily distracted doesn't seem all that bad to me.
But by the simple balloon and nevertheless, because it floats. I, and some friends of mine have/had ADHD. And I know in this circumstance, they would see the balloon and question why it was there, or just follow after it wondering were it would end up, or how much helium it had in it to keep it's level like that, or so on. Pinkie pie saying "OOOOOOOHHHHHH Something floaty!" was extremely childish and unbelievably for the situation. And yes, I know we are talking about Pinkie Pie, but it's unbelievable for even her to say such a thing. I wouldn't mind if she had a more logical excuse, like she had a party to go throw for someone, or if she followed the balloon without saying that obnoxious line. It still wouldn't excuse the scene where Discord used it to lure her away. I mean, a balloon, or the God of Chaos, what's more interesting to keep your attention span?

Seriously, I love pinkie, don't get me wrong, but as you have pointed out her personality has been abused this season. She used to be atleast somewhat 3 dimensional but now she is more 2D than paper. I hope the fix this later this season. I really hope they expand on her backstory, that would help alot, and start writing her like they're supposed to.
I agree with you on the pacing. I looked at the episode timeline, and the episode was still located by the train station almost halfway through the entire episode! Either write a longer script and cut out the pinkie gags, or just try harder...
In response to Pinkie's "exaggeration," I might have an answer. The episodes where that has happened this season have been in the episodes by the new writers or by Megan McCarthy. Looking back Megan has had a habit of making Pinkie a bit more strange than normal (Party of One for forgetting her birthday, green isn't your color for not letting twilight stop the conflict, crystal empire for basically being the town jester) and she is also the story editor. And with the exception of Natasha Levinger all the new writers wrote the episodes or had a part in the episodes where Pinkie is quote "flanderized." And to be honest it would be hard for me to right her as well, I would either make her crazier or boring. They just need a little more time. She was good in the episodes written by the experienced writers like Daring Don't, Bats Rarity Takes Manehattan, and to an extent Rainbow falls.

Yeah, we are back on track, this time I agreed with you from start to finish. Every criticism/thought about the episode and characters I had were pointed out/addressed. It was a fun episode, but Discord's song was too chaotic (it's not a bad song, but I can't find myself remembering/singing anything past the beginning of the song before the fast stuff starts) and the fact that the plot itself started half way through the episode were definitely flaws... but still a fun episode none-the-less.
Wait, in most of your past Season 4 reviews, you said that Pinkie was IN character more often than not, contrary to what everyone else is saying. Here, it seems like you changed your mind. Did you reassess during your hiatus?
I must agree about Pinkie. The first time the thing with balloon happens is mildly funny in my opinion, but the second time, it's actually insulting. It's like they're saying we can't let Pinkie get to emotional or something. I can't help getting the feeling that someone complained about Pinkie's possible mental problems (see 'Party of One') and so the writers decided to have her character show nothing but happy emotion. I hope she acts like a real character in the next episode.
I'm half hoping that Pinkie goes Cupcakes on us in the next episode; if the moms start a protest march, we'll be able to attack them and maybe get help from the other fandoms they've harassed.
Woodsstories "Luna Eclipsed" yes, but "Filli Vanilli" came after this episode. And thank Faust it was the last time in Season 4 that there was that harsh a slip up on Pinkie's character.

I liked this episode mainly for the fact that we got to see Princess Cadence again and that she proved she could hold her own in a battle. Yes, she fought the Tatzlwurm along side Twilight but that made it even more awesome. I assume Cadence at the end wanted to not make Twilight feel bad about Discord ruining their day but I do like her admitting that she wants more excitement in her life. It really adds to her character and shows what the writers can do with a character who was originally made to sell more toys. Discord on the other hand was NOT my main focus of the episode. Though I did like seeing him get what he deserved at the end. As for Pinkie, I really didn't mind her in this episode. Besides, isn't she supposed to be like a child? BTW, as you were discussing that each MLP:FiM writer has their own specific style, I'm interested in hearing what you think the other writers specialize in.
Your comments about Pinkie not being stupid reminded me of one part of the comic "Reflections" So basically they got stuck in a jail cell cause of the evil counterparts or whatever. and Twilight starts freaking out. Pinkie gives her a dirty looks, and points to Twilight's horn. They get out of the cell, and Rainbow Dash whispers to Applejack "Sometimes I think she's the smartest one out of all of us." I suck at summarizing.
Gotta be honest I find this episode to be of a lower quality than Power Ponies/Daring Don't and Rainbow Falls. That 8 minute train station scene full of exposition was painful, and am I the only one who fears that Discord will start to become a gimmick? The song was better than Generosity but that's probably because of the high visual appeal. My main problem is that there was zero character development in this. Discord is still a dick to non-Fluttershys, Twilight still considers Discord a threat, and Cadence is still.............there. It's rare to see Discord and Cadence in a single part episode so I guess my expectations were too high in this one. Now time to rewatch "Keep Calm and Flutter on."

That worm thing is what we call a graboid. If you want to know more about graboids, shriekers, and assblasters, go watch the first three Tremors movies. Putting rocks over the graboid's hole was actually the best thing they could do. Those fuckers can't get through rock.
Call it whatever you want. It's a giant, meat eating worm that burrows in the ground and has living tentacle tongues that come out of a mouth that opens in three directions. That is how graboids work. The only difference is this worm has eyes while graboids use Toph vision.

Even though he was "reformed" no one besides Fluttershy actually treats him like or even considers him a friend. I mean, it's obvious why they still don't trust him, but they should at least give him a chance. I'd feel pretty hurt if someone was just pretending to be my friend because they felt like they had to, which the ponies clearly are. I'm just glad they seem to have resolved that officially in the end of the finale.
Indeed. That's the big problem with this episode, next time we see Discord NOTHING has changed, making ths episode feel like pointless fan service. When we said we wanted more Discord, we didn't mean just throw him into an episode. "Magic Duel" and "Cutie Mark Chronicles" showed that the wrtiers know how to give fans what they want without selling out. So why they forgot about that in this episode is beyond me.
Pinkie High Yes. They wanted the good without the bad, and unfortunately, when they no longer had the elements to fall back on, that mentality was doomed to failure.
And Power Ponies. Still, so glad to see her fly extensively in this one. It almost felt like they were compensating for the episodes where she never even opened her wings.
Well, it's definitely one of the funnest episodes to watch. It's plenty entertaining, after all. Next week should be something to look forward too. Though Amy Keating Rogers has got a lot of expectations to live to.

Also, I don't think the rocks were meant to be a permanent solution. This thing is at the edge of equestria, where few ponies would ever go, so I don't think they were planning to deal with it permanently. I think the rocks were merely meant to buy them time to get away from it, which admittedly they should have done faster.

Now. On the level of enjoyments... The last episode that bored me this much was Spike at your service but that's just me.
This episode is definitely flawed. The big thing here is how Discord ruined everybody else's (Twilight and Cadance) time just for his shenanigans. From what the ending implies, it seems that he sees the friends of other mane 6 members to be threats to the friendships he feels he has formed. This becomes a recurring thing which has yet to be resolved. The whole time Discord is just being a dick to Twilight and Cadance, who just wanted to spend a day together. The episode itself discusses how they barely get to see each other as it is, which doesn't make anything better for Discord. Obviously, Discord isn't completely reformed, but he really does frustrate audience members throughout this episode. Since I have a bias toward Discord, I accept those flaws and just let myself enjoy the character. But for people who see it the way I just discussed it, this episode did a decent amount of harm to Discord's character.

It's nearly physically hurting me to see my favourite character beginning to get flanderized so badly, and I truly hope they can fix this. Pinkie's best moments are when she has self-doubt or feelings of abandonment, like in Party of One, Baby Cakes, and Too Many Pinkie Pies. Everything she does all stem from a desire for attention. Seeing other people smile from her actions gives her self-worth.

I definitely agree with you on Pinkie. She's not an idiot. In fact, I think she may have an eidetic memory. In "A Friend in Deed," she can remember the birthdays of everyone in town. In "Sonic Rainboom," she finds the wing spell for Twilight after a single glance at the page. Also, I suspect that Pinkie Sense may be her way of processing observations while observing the world on a Sherlock level. She has the potential to be a genius, but her inclination is toward fun and parties.
To put it another way, do you remember the episode of Pinkie and the Brain where Brain turns Pinkie into a bigger genius than himself? There are times I wonder if Pinkie Pie and Twilight will ever have an episode reminiscent of that.

I think Pinkie has been getting exaggerated in the newer episodes because of all of the new writers that were added this season. They seem to have their own interpretations of Pinkie's character, and don't quite understand exactly how she's supposed to be portrayed, but that's just my hunch. However, she's still my favorite character on the show, and the writers have yet to do anything to make her do something that I know she would never do. Amy Keating Rogers has said that Pinkie is her favorite character to write for, so I'm confident that the new episode will prevent her from turning into a brain dead child.

Traveling museums are actually a thing, the one that comes to mind is the haunted item museum about a year ago, it also had cameras set up so that people could watch the items at all hours and report any changes or happenings

I kinda liked it. It wasn't an overarching story advancer and really didn't develop any characters. But it was still fun. And I know I have to go back and watch again cause I bet there's a reference I missed in the Discord song.

It's like the episode is kicking one of Fluttershy's worst portrayals(Keep Calm and Flutter On) in the balls, and I LOVE it! HOLY CRAP! I know, right? Pinkie Pride is one of my favorite MLP episodes to date. For once in Season 4, Pinkie was actually characterized well. Most of the other times, she was flanderized. Discord giving Twilight the locket is an enormous Easter egg for those who came back to watch this after the Season Four Finale. Discord gave Twilight an object to prove their friendship, which is EXACTLY what she needed in the Finale. Discord also gave them their diary after bookmarking the objects they all received before he confronted Tirek.
See where this is going? Discord knew how to defeat Tirek all along, and even helped Twilight months before she needed it. I always had doubts about his betrayal, but he knew what he was doing all along.
I'm confident about next week.
Amy Keating Rogers has always been one of my favorite writers for Pinkie Pie.
She knows how to make Pinkie funny without her just being "random" and "childish".

That is highly debateable and has been in flux since the series started. She's often portrayed as stupid during the series. Kinda like how Starfire from Teen Titans used to flip between naive and just outright dense between episodes.

I think Amy K. Rogers would be the ideal person to write the Pinkie episode. Next to Larson I think she has one of the best grasps on Pinkies character as a whole. But really we can only say after the episode airs.
I think Brotherhooves Social is the closest to a Dave Polsky/Cindy Morrow fusion that we’re ever going to get. I know that episode was written by Dave Polsky alone, but there are still enough heartwarming moments showcasing just how much Big Mac cares about Applebloom. There’s also that moment at the end, which almost made me cry. Not many episodes made me both laugh and care so much, at the same time. While I prefer the more character-oriented sincerity of Sisterhooves Social, this episode is probably in my top 20 favorites of the show. BTW, this is before season 8, so you could expect that to change.
THANK you for that brief spiel on Pinkie Pie's character, that's a good way of summoning up what's wrong with how she's being portrayed as of late! Also, I'm fairly certain that there are traveling museums in real life, but I can't think of any at the moment. It's funny what you said about "Gary", though I'm not entirely sure if I can still read any personality out of him here... That thing you mentioned about Discord using Fluttershy's tactic of relying on kindness in one-sided relationships, it has me thinking... maybe what Fluttershy "taught" him is what he thinks friendship is all about... Oh gosh, if that's ACTUALLY what they're going for, I would be both very impressed and also kind of shocked that they outright acknowledged how much of a lousy set-up Keep Calm and Flutter On was. Oh, and Discord's "Glass of Water" song? I must have listened to it about 30 times since I originally heard the whole thing. Like, DAMN there's a lot to process out of that song! Lastly, I'm not that convinced that Rainbow Falls had a "terrible concept". It has a terrible execution, or at the very least, you could argue that much, but I don't think it was bad in theory.

The best way to make sure a character doesn't get flanderized is if the creator sets rules. Alex Hirsch does that for Dipper and Mabel, I think that is a pretty good idea.
Everyone seems concerned for Pinkie, myself included. She'll probably get her key next week since those episodes have the ponies name in them and that one is called "Pinkie Pride" Here's hoping she won't be an overly hyper, juvenile little moron for a change because I love Pinkie, she was always my favorite. The patio furniture and balloon jokes (I use the word jokes very loosely) were beyond stupid, c'mon writers.

Seulgi Kim Indeed. And in fact, she wasn't really all that flanderized in "Princess Twilight Sparkle" if you ignored the cut away gag. Then there's also the fact that that we've seen her act like she did in "Castle Mane-ia". This episode was really the first one to even BEGIN to flanderize Pinkie Pie. And thankfully, with the exception of "Filli Vanilli", the writers recognized the problem, and fixed it.

When Pinkie gets distracted by a balloon, that doesn't show stupidity, that shows a short attention span. That's like saying I'm stupid because I get distracted from reading in class just because I hear a creaking noise coming from the ceiling (which I tend to do.)

Honestly, after the way Pinkie was portrayed in "Filli Vanilli", I'd say that her behavior in this episode, as well as in "Princess Twilight Sparkle" and "Castle Mane-ia", seems a lot more appealing. You wanna know why? Because at least in those episodes, Pinkie's antics didn't make their respective story's conflicts worse and can be a little funny in their own way. Her behavior in "Filli Vanilli", however, when she was making Fluttershy's dilemma worse was just mean-spirited and cringe worthy to sit through.
In short, I'd rather have an air headed but harmless Pinkie Pie than an air headed and insensitive one. And I'm pretty sure Mr. Enter would agree with me on this one.
I understand the complaints about Pinkie entirely. With things like what happened in this episode, though, I just convince myself that she has ADD and move on from it. I don't really see a problem with her being easily distracted. Childish and/or stupid bother me, but easily distracted doesn't seem all that bad to me.
But by the simple balloon and nevertheless, because it floats. I, and some friends of mine have/had ADHD. And I know in this circumstance, they would see the balloon and question why it was there, or just follow after it wondering were it would end up, or how much helium it had in it to keep it's level like that, or so on. Pinkie pie saying "OOOOOOOHHHHHH Something floaty!" was extremely childish and unbelievably for the situation. And yes, I know we are talking about Pinkie Pie, but it's unbelievable for even her to say such a thing.
I wouldn't mind if she had a more logical excuse, like she had a party to go throw for someone, or if she followed the balloon without saying that obnoxious line. It still wouldn't excuse the scene where Discord used it to lure her away. I mean, a balloon, or the God of Chaos, what's more interesting to keep your attention span?

Seriously, I love pinkie, don't get me wrong, but as you have pointed out her personality has been abused this season. She used to be atleast somewhat 3 dimensional but now she is more 2D than paper. I hope the fix this later this season. I really hope they expand on her backstory, that would help alot, and start writing her like they're supposed to.

I agree with you on the pacing. I looked at the episode timeline, and the episode was still located by the train station almost halfway through the entire episode! Either write a longer script and cut out the pinkie gags, or just try harder...
In response to Pinkie's "exaggeration," I might have an answer. The episodes where that has happened this season have been in the episodes by the new writers or by Megan McCarthy. Looking back Megan has had a habit of making Pinkie a bit more strange than normal (Party of One for forgetting her birthday, green isn't your color for not letting twilight stop the conflict, crystal empire for basically being the town jester) and she is also the story editor. And with the exception of Natasha Levinger all the new writers wrote the episodes or had a part in the episodes where Pinkie is quote "flanderized." And to be honest it would be hard for me to right her as well, I would either make her crazier or boring. They just need a little more time. She was good in the episodes written by the experienced writers like Daring Don't, Bats Rarity Takes Manehattan, and to an extent Rainbow falls.

Yeah, we are back on track, this time I agreed with you from start to finish. Every criticism/thought about the episode and characters I had were pointed out/addressed. It was a fun episode, but Discord's song was too chaotic (it's not a bad song, but I can't find myself remembering/singing anything past the beginning of the song before the fast stuff starts) and the fact that the plot itself started half way through the episode were definitely flaws... but still a fun episode none-the-less.

I must agree about Pinkie. The first time the thing with balloon happens is mildly funny in my opinion, but the second time, it's actually insulting. It's like they're saying we can't let Pinkie get to emotional or something. I can't help getting the feeling that someone complained about Pinkie's possible mental problems (see 'Party of One') and so the writers decided to have her character show nothing but happy emotion. I hope she acts like a real character in the next episode.
I'm half hoping that Pinkie goes Cupcakes on us in the next episode; if the moms start a protest march, we'll be able to attack them and maybe get help from the other fandoms they've harassed.
I don't think that's the case, because if so she wouldn't have broken down in episodes like "Baby Cakes" or "Too Many Pinkie Pies".

I liked this episode mainly for the fact that we got to see Princess Cadence again and that she proved she could hold her own in a battle. Yes, she fought the Tatzlwurm along side Twilight but that made it even more awesome. I assume Cadence at the end wanted to not make Twilight feel bad about Discord ruining their day but I do like her admitting that she wants more excitement in her life. It really adds to her character and shows what the writers can do with a character who was originally made to sell more toys.
Discord on the other hand was NOT my main focus of the episode. Though I did like seeing him get what he deserved at the end.
As for Pinkie, I really didn't mind her in this episode. Besides, isn't she supposed to be like a child?
BTW, as you were discussing that each MLP:FiM writer has their own specific style, I'm interested in hearing what you think the other writers specialize in.

So basically they got stuck in a jail cell cause of the evil counterparts or whatever. and Twilight starts freaking out. Pinkie gives her a dirty looks, and points to Twilight's horn. They get out of the cell, and Rainbow Dash whispers to Applejack "Sometimes I think she's the smartest one out of all of us."

Gotta be honest I find this episode to be of a lower quality than Power Ponies/Daring Don't and Rainbow Falls. That 8 minute train station scene full of exposition was painful, and am I the only one who fears that Discord will start to become a gimmick? The song was better than Generosity but that's probably because of the high visual appeal. My main problem is that there was zero character development in this. Discord is still a dick to non-Fluttershys, Twilight still considers Discord a threat, and Cadence is still.............there. It's rare to see Discord and Cadence in a single part episode so I guess my expectations were too high in this one. Now time to rewatch "Keep Calm and Flutter on."

This is definitely NOT one of my favorites... of all. Frankly, I sympathized more with Discord because he made a good point. Even though he was "reformed" no one besides Fluttershy actually treats him like or even considers him a friend. I mean, it's obvious why they still don't trust him, but they should at least give him a chance. I'd feel pretty hurt if someone was just pretending to be my friend because they felt like they had to, which the ponies clearly are. I'm just glad they seem to have resolved that officially in the end of the finale.
Indeed. That's the big problem with this episode, next time we see Discord NOTHING has changed, making ths episode feel like pointless fan service. When we said we wanted more Discord, we didn't mean just throw him into an episode. "Magic Duel" and "Cutie Mark Chronicles" showed that the wrtiers know how to give fans what they want without selling out. So why they forgot about that in this episode is beyond me.
The problem is that they treat discord more like a task that a friend as if he needs to be dealt with and put to one side.
Pinkie High Yes. They wanted the good without the bad, and unfortunately, when they no longer had the elements to fall back on, that mentality was doomed to failure.
Twilight flew in "Castlemania" as well, not just the season premier.
And Power Ponies.
Still, so glad to see her fly extensively in this one. It almost felt like they were compensating for the episodes where she never even opened her wings.
Oh yeah. But that was in the comic book, not in the 'real world'.
Well, it's definitely one of the funnest episodes to watch. It's plenty entertaining, after all.

Mr. E, why did you not point out that even though Discord was faking, he somehow managed to give Rarity and AppleJack an illness he never had? Also, I don't think the rocks were meant to be a permanent solution. This thing is at the edge of equestria, where few ponies would ever go, so I don't think they were planning to deal with it permanently. I think the rocks were merely meant to buy them time to get away from it, which admittedly they should have done faster.

This episode is definitely flawed. The big thing here is how Discord ruined everybody else's (Twilight and Cadance) time just for his shenanigans. From what the ending implies, it seems that he sees the friends of other mane 6 members to be threats to the friendships he feels he has formed. This becomes a recurring thing which has yet to be resolved. The whole time Discord is just being a dick to Twilight and Cadance, who just wanted to spend a day together. The episode itself discusses how they barely get to see each other as it is, which doesn't make anything better for Discord. Obviously, Discord isn't completely reformed, but he really does frustrate audience members throughout this episode.
Since I have a bias toward Discord, I accept those flaws and just let myself enjoy the character. But for people who see it the way I just discussed it, this episode did a decent amount of harm to Discord's character.

Hey what happened to Merriweather's tally at the end same for Natasha she wasn't there either... Discord will always be awesome and does anyone else find it weird that Dave Polskey and Merriweather Williams are the best writers of the season so far with the newbies close behind them...

To be fair, John De Lancie was Discord from season 2. He apparently did it just for the gig, but the reaction he got to doing Discord convinced him to make the brony documentary.
That I did not know... I still find it weird, awesome but weird.
Also I must ask your opinion on Corey Powell as I find his/her episodes to be some of my favorites but I noticed running score you have 0/5 Is that for season 4 or overall? I think sleepless in ponyville is probally one of my top 3 episodes.

REALLY? Glass Of Water is one of the BEST songs in the show, not one of the worst! It's just so mystifying, unique, and fun! It's an amazing song, and this episode is a lot of fun.
I agree with everything you said... especially about Pinkie Pie. It's nearly physically hurting me to see my favourite character beginning to get flanderized so badly, and I truly hope they can fix this. I don't, however, find her to be dim-witted... just a bit goofy, you know? But hey, opinions exist for a reason. Great review.
Yes me too! Pinkie actually used to be favorite out of the main six. Now she is number 5.....Season 4 just hasn't been very kind to her.
I excuse the pinkie scene at the train station because I believe she has ADHD. She is still deep and interesting. Just with some focus issues

is cadance like protoss? i could have sworn i see she have a plasma shield barring discord's face. albeit less dangerous as a real plasma shield would melt your face of on contact. anyways for me its a solid episode as well. as enter said, its jugging too slow. oh yeah maybe this be the first episode where cadance and twilight have a sister-in-law bonding.
I would like to call this the funniest episode to involve Discord, considering that I really like it when he shrinks himself. (Seriously Hasbro, bring on the Discord toys!) =D

Pinkie's best moments are when she has self-doubt or feelings of abandonment, like in Party of One, Baby Cakes, and Too Many Pinkie Pies.
Everything she does all stem from a desire for attention. Seeing other people smile from her actions gives her self-worth.
