I love how this short story blended stuff from 2001 and Jurassic Park while also taking advantage of 1980s computer development, kinda the ultimate conundrum about the prospect of creating artificial life, science fiction dilemmas at its finest and its from freaking Digimon of all things.
I personally wonder what a Digimon series would be like if a part of the main cast were adults with Digimon partners. I always imagine it would be something along the lines of them “re awakening their inner child” or something like that and having more mature forms of the crests like Wisdom to go along with Knowledge. Or adults having to relearn the meaning of what the crests symbolize after facing the realities of the “adult world”. I think this would work really well with Digiknow’s explanation of how the Kizuna ending could work with the O2 epilogue.
Stuff like this is why Tamers is perhaps the best season out of all of them. It is the one that is most grounded in our reality and doesn't blatantly defy the laws of physics.
Fun fact about shibumi: its stated by media concerning the angel faction in digimon that the being that the angel digimon worship and work under is human. Heavily implying that shibumi is the leader and is a multiversal meddler who continues to exist in and influence the happenings multiple digital worlds in the digimon universe much like Mirei from the games. Either by traveling between them to give orders or making copies of himself like how jenai has many copies of himself.
This part is just my fan theory on the subject so grain of salt is warranted but its my oppinion that the tamers digital world is the original digital world like a prototype that all of the others are based on with improvements like digimon being reborn as digieggs when killed instead of permadeath. Its also very underpopulated despite nearing its capacity for storing data which is why the d-reaper existed and was a threat in the first place. I think the savers digital world is one of the early versions as well since the memories get partially wiped upun rebirth and there is ways to permakill digimon still. Time passes in real time in the tamers digital world as well and not others so thats why there is not as many digimon living there and why other digital worlds have ancient eras like in Frontier and Adventure. In the savers time passes slower in the real world as well but not as slow as say adventure. A day in savers seems to be a few hours on earth while in adventure months there can pass in moments on earth which supports the idea that its an early model as well. In fact most of the media where tamers exist instead of chosen children, there seems to have underdeveloped elements to that universes digital world. The savers digital world seems slightly unpopulated as well but is far more dense with digimon than the tamers one. I would say the x-antibody universe is a prototype as well since it has overpopulation issues suggesting low storage for digimon data hence the death x virus being made and the royal knights who normally protect the digital world being forced to commit genocide. Its possible its the tamers digital world after tamers ended and the d-reaper no longer existed or an even older version that didn't have a d-reaper program yet to stop overpopulation.
Hmm I knew it. If Shibumi is Angel then i'm the devil I always have feeling about him. Like something off. Not that I hate him. And to use Dr Seuss quote "Don't cry because it's over smile because it happened"
if we take into kizuna account and how as we get older and as our dreams and imaginations narrow, our bond with partners are severed, but the wild bunch who are creating a new world from scratch could say they had the biggest dreams and imaginations to give life to the digital world. and if you think really deep digimon adventure and 02 is anime in tamers world, and maybe the wild bunch came together to write a story to give a small warning to the future tamers about their bond, but you really never lose your partner and can even get them back, like in tamers ending.
I wonder when it comes to Daisy’s Greymon, if the reason they couldn’t recognize it in the computer screen was because maybe it wasn’t the vaccine version of Greymon, but instead the dark blue Greymon. I know the sprites would probably be the exact same, and that this probably has no weight to it, but looking at the cover art for Digimon Tamers 1984, I can’t help but think Daisy’s Greymon is more feral, more beast like than the Greymon we normally see
@@A_Drifting_Fool the greymon in the movie was like that but was normal greymon but you could be right and do bring up a valid point. I couldn't see the greymon from the movie attemping to harm a human despite how feral it acted. It seemed more like a normally sweet rotweiler dog going into murder mode when it thinks its owner is in danger. Dangous but not malicious. There was definitely element of violent malice with the way the greymon in the digimon 1984 manga acted.
Well, its also possible, what she originally looked at was the Greymon dot matrix sprite she worked on, but what Keith didn't recognize was a Digi-gnome. We know Digi-gnomes were either created because of the growing Digital World on the network, the dreams of Children, Shibumi's evolution program, or a combo if these. Digi-gnomes seems to appear when a someone/a child wants a Digimon. Keith and Daisy might have witnessed the first Digi-Gnome using Keith's drawings and imagination to make Daisy's digimon real, mirroring how they turned Takato's dream into Guilmon. If they saw a Digi-Gnome on screen, they'd not recognize it, since they didn't create it, and it would have then helped Greymon bio-emerge, where it attacked the building to attempt to interact with Daisy

People were thinking about the future a LOT in a speculative, creative way but I would hesitate to say your average person in the 80s wasn't just casually thinking about how close specifically the 21st century is when it was still a decade and a half away. To me that feels more like Konaka being in 2001/2002 thinking about the turn of the millenium from his perspective having just experienced it. I think most of those media depicted stuff post-year 2000 specifically because it felt so far away, if anything, there was no pressure to be correct about their depictions of the future lol.
@@Karn_EX you make a good point but there is definitely a feeling of its just around the corner in a hopeful "im going to live to see this in my lifetime" kind of mind set. Like how some weebs half expect irl sword art online style vr games or robot girlfriends in around that amount of time but are often told it could be here sooner than you think. That half puts even me into that mindset sometimes and i have to remind myself that im going to be older than my aunts and uncles are now by then by close to ten years for some of them and 20 years is still 20 years. I think its more of an age gap thing as well. Most people our age grew up with everything being instant to the point where tldr or too long didn't read became a thing. Both in the abbreviation aspect and the meaning and use. Its natural that 20 years seems way longer to a generation who thinks reading a internet post longer than a paragraph or two is too much even if it will take like 10 or 20 seconds to read. Even for those who aren't much like that, like me or you if you read this far, the mindset is there and sometimes shows up with most of us. Theres definitely a contradictory feeling of it being both far off and very close that cycles between the two based on mood or what makes you think about it. At least with me and most people who lived through the 80s ive talked with this about. I think it was way murkier than it was for people who grew up during the same era as that the famous novel "the time machine" when it was first written.
It's interesting to actually have a solid origin story for the Digimon as a whole, since their origin is very inconsistent between anime seasons, as well as other media. Having a story like this, which really grounds the creation and awakening of Digimon to a single point in time makes the entire franchise feel much more solid, as opposed to the vagueness given to us in most other stories
what a fantastic video and great analysis with tons of comparisons to real life and konaka's inspirations. the top 10 and tier list videos are always a ton of fun but this kind of video is a whole different level of great content! can't wait for the V-tamer video to come :D
This was very interesting and something like this really further increased my liking of digimon season 3. All the details all of the added stuff and all of the interesting things that connect to the real world is just very fascinating and the fact that all of that happened within the eighties is impressive. Awesome look at this piece of digimon tamers/digimon related history Karn!
17: 37 I would like to think maybe it could've been the blue virus variant that he made not the orange greymon from the show in a reference to how blue greymon or metal greymon was made to be the original form of that.
While mostly acting as a prequel, this story honestly works well as a shortform horror story: a group of scientists trying to create digital life, only for one of the lifeforms to seemingly acknowledge them through the computer screen. Then one night, a series of strange happenings coinciding with the mysterious sprite vanishing from the computer. They succeeded, only to realize too late just what they made
That all... that all explains a lot. Also if you ever decide to do a tamer’s retrospective I can and will smack a camel with the force of Zeus itself to help somehow. Alternatively? I’d be interested to see the video of the partners for the wild bunch. Since they exist in the tamers universe, it’d be interesting to see the potential bio merge concepts for em.
I think my favourite thing about the Wild Bunch letting Digimon become public domain and being picked up by "a toy company" (cough Bandai cough) is that Akiyoshi Hongo, the creator of Digimon IRL, is actually just a pseudonym, and one that seems to be a composite of several different people, so in a way, the Wild Bunch IS Akiyoshi Hongo!
If we ever get a detective Pikachu-style Digimon movie, I feel like this should partially be the premise of it combined with a story set in the future about a team of international DigiDestined trying to fix some issue (our world and the digital world are merging?) cast wise probably not the best but kinda works: Florence Pugh as Daisy maybe her real name is a reference to Augusta Ada King, Countess of Lovelace the first female computer programmer. Jason Tobin as Janyu Wong Daniel Kaluuya as Babel Kieran Bew as Dolphin Naomi Scott as Curly Ryan Potter as Shibumi Andrew Koji as Yamaki Taron Egerton, BooBoo Stewart, and Maya Hawke are our future Digidestined
This was absolutely amazing to watch. I love the immersive editing bro. I als love that you are exploring tons of parts of the digimon franchise that I've never seen before. It perfectly hits a balance between hardcore nostalgia and new and fresh content because I've never seen it before ❤️👌🏻
Okay I think I have which Monster Maker should have which adventure partner. Shibumi - Tentomon, As the sort of main brain at least when it comes to the Digital World itself. I think it fits that Shibumi gets the crest of knowledge connected Tentomon. Tao - Patamon, It is the closest to his children's digimon being a small mammal digimon that flies with its ears. Also, Seraphimon is one of the 3 angel digimon like Cherubimon. Dolphin - Gabumon, Garurumon being a canine like Alice's Dobermon. Garurumon's line having some connection to the water like the dolphins. Granted Gomamon has more connection to water... eh, Gomamon and Gabumon could be swapped here. Curly - Gomamon, A lot of curly hair on Ikkaumon? Like I said Gabumon and Gomamon could be swapped. Babel - Biyomon, More connected to the name I feel like Biyomon's line connecting to Sora through the crest of love is kinda like the Tower of Babel connecting people through language. Daisy - Agumon, for the same reason as in the video. Johnny - Palmon. This one was kinda process of elimination and it ended up a coincidence that the American member ended up with Mimi's partner and Mimi happened to move to America. Thoughts? I think this might be the best connections for them.
@@Karn_EX Now we just need to figure out if they have the same Digivolutons or not... I mean some probably would... Also, Would of given Dolphin Gabumon or Gomamon? That was the one I couldn't really decide on.
1984 has this really cool vibe, it sounds like. Maybe it's just your delivery but it has a really slow tension building up until the attack, then back into the slow mystery as people forget.
@@Karn_EX Okay, I finally found and read this story, and yep, it's just as suspenseful as you made it sound. Now I wonder which digimon's plan it was to spread through the network as public domain to help expand their world and potential for growth... Seriously though, her noticing the lab was showing up on the network as part of the world map... good stuff!
The way the "Hurricane" behaved makes me think that it might have been the Virus Variant of Greymon, which would be interesting. I mean, Guilmon is Virus as well, so it doesn't equal evil, just a stronger instinctual drive to aggressive behavior. Also, kinda funny that it was said they shouldn't fight and the first thing a Digimon does, when it get's into the real world, is wrecking sh*t.
@@Karn_EX well, true that... And it was one of the earliest Digimon to, well, actually exist in that version. Plus it was suddenly warped into a completly unknown enviorment. Wouldn't be thrilled myself either...
I turned 6 in 1996 and I def remember people talking about the new millenium coming up, even back then. Sure it became a much more prominent topic in the next four years, but it happened. I don't remember anyone talking about Y2K then, and my experience is solely limited to a 5/6 year old in the U.S. Still.
I had no idea this was a thing, because you know, Japan exclusivity, but I sure am glad to have learned about it given that Digimon Tamers is arguably my favorite season.
One really creepy detail that you sort of leave out is that a map of the lab shows up on the screen with a dot showing where Daisy is, implying that the Greymon is well aware of where she is.
It's pretty sad that digimon is not more popular than what it is because realer than what it is because digimon can actually be in our reality all they are is digital sprites with AI abilities
I don't know. In Tamers, Ryo said thatCyberdramon is unstable digimon and we later learned why is that - Monodramon's and Millenniumon's personalities clashed with each other.
@@jmac28211 makes me wonder how the Adventure universe works then, is it written by and thus controlled by the whims of the tamers world or is it happenchance that the writers in the tamers world thought up the adventure story... or heck maybe this is DC and the writer(s) had a psychic link to the world and thus what they thought were their own ideas was just the events of the adventure world
I think its kind of a bummer that so many Digimon are considered "Adventure" Digimon, because they appear in Adventure. I love Adventure, but I liked Digimon on the playground as a Vpet and knew Koromon, Greymon, Monzaemon, etc. for a few years before seeing them as partners and villians on TV. Digimon like Botomon, Koromon, Agumon, Greymon, Kabuterimon, Angemon, Devimon, etc. Were only made the protagonists and antagonists of Adventure because they were pre-established Digimon in 1996 Vpets, and by 1999 could be used to draw the Vpet owners into the newly created anime. Not the other way around. Those Digimon AREN'T "Adventure Digimon", they're the OG Vpet Rosters that were recycled into Adventure.

That was so, so fascinating.
This adds so much depth to the tamer season and even the entire Digimon series as a whole
I really can't wait until you cover the Xros Wars manga!
what a fantastic video and great analysis with tons of comparisons to real life and konaka's inspirations. the top 10 and tier list videos are always a ton of fun but this kind of video is a whole different level of great content! can't wait for the V-tamer video to come :D
Thank you very much! Glad you enjoyed it! Still got top 10 and rankings coming but I appreciate the love on these more personal, researched pieces!
The glasses are on point my dude. Looking flyzilla
This reminds me very much of how Shin Megami Tensei began.
Digivice using the demoning summoning program hummm could be interesting.
Here I sit, being surprised I actually learned something new about one of the first 4 seasons (about which I normally say I know everything). Daaaamn~
Well hey, that's the aim! Glad to fill in some gaps, thanks for watching!
@@Karn_EX I'm always happy new learn something new. Thank you for providing :D
Ryo is a awesome character and just like piers from resident evil 6 both were in comics
17: 37 I would like to think maybe it could've been the blue virus variant that he made not the orange greymon from the show in a reference to how blue greymon or metal greymon was made to be the original form of that.
Thanks for sharing this. I def wanted to know more about these characters and their background after rewatching Tamers.
Thanks for watching!
They succeeded, only to realize too late just what they made
New video! Always looking forward!
Thanks so much!
That all... that all explains a lot.
We know Daisy would have apparently gotten Agumon if they all got partners but what do you think the other members would have gotten?
If we ever get a detective Pikachu-style Digimon movie, I feel like this should partially be the premise of it combined with a story set in the future about a team of international DigiDestined trying to fix some issue (our world and the digital world are merging?) cast wise probably not the best but kinda works:
Florence Pugh as Daisy maybe her real name is a reference to Augusta Ada King, Countess of Lovelace the first female computer programmer.
Jason Tobin as Janyu Wong
Daniel Kaluuya as Babel
Kieran Bew as Dolphin
Naomi Scott as Curly
Ryan Potter as Shibumi
Andrew Koji as Yamaki
Taron Egerton, BooBoo Stewart, and Maya Hawke are our future Digidestined
This was awesome i always thought if they make a live action movie they should use the wild bunch story.
This was absolutely amazing to watch. I love the immersive editing bro. I als love that you are exploring tons of parts of the digimon franchise that I've never seen before. It perfectly hits a balance between hardcore nostalgia and new and fresh content because I've never seen it before ❤️👌🏻
Thanks so much, Zak! That means a lot!
I like these a lot! And we can give Gatomon to Yamaki as he comes along and "joins" the Monster Makers afterwards lol
@@Karn_EX Now we just need to figure out if they have the same Digivolutons or not... I mean some probably would... Also, Would of given Dolphin Gabumon or Gomamon? That was the one I couldn't really decide on.
Love the new series
Thanks bud!
@@Karn_EX did you ever thought about talking about the original digidestind?
Nice oronman glasses, i have a pair of them that my best friend got me for christmas
Your hair and glasses go ridiculously well together, love how ya look my dude.
Aww, thanks, Sam!
Oh wow I didn't know about this! This was very cool to learn about!!! :D
Glad it was helpful!
Nice glasses Karn Ex!
And I LOVE this look into Digimon Tamers history.
Thank you, Kevin! I've really enjoyed digging into Digimon Tamers 1984, I love backstories like this!
I’ve read the 1984 before but I loved all that information in a video dude!!! 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Awesome! Thank you!
This makes me imagine Daisy as a Gogglehead. What an interesting piece of Digimon history.
1984 has this really cool vibe, it sounds like. Maybe it's just your delivery but it has a really slow tension building up until the attack, then back into the slow mystery as people forget.
It's definitely a fun, suspenseful read! But I did try to put a bit of oomph into it lol
@@Karn_EX Okay, I finally found and read this story, and yep, it's just as suspenseful as you made it sound. Now I wonder which digimon's plan it was to spread through the network as public domain to help expand their world and potential for growth...
Seriously though, her noticing the lab was showing up on the network as part of the world map... good stuff!
Thanks for the vid. I really enjoyed listening.
My pleasure! Glad you enjoyed it
The more we know "🤯🤯🤯
Always love to inform!
@@Karn_EX thanks always love to watch you
Thanks for watching, means a lot!
First off, I love your videos. So, I was wondering, although farfetched, would you consider doing a video on what Digimon you'd give the Wild Bunch?
Thanks so much! And yes, I plan to do that in the new year!
Very intresting, i always wanted more back story for those guys
You and me both!
@@Karn_EX so a question, if the moster makers got og sigimon partners which 2 would you leave out as there are only 6 moster makers?
There's also Johnny Beckenstein who's an ally/basically a member. Yamaki can have Gatomon lol
@@Karn_EX i always thought yamaki should have blackwargreymon
Digimon in Palo Alto, CA? As someone who lives very near to that area I almost don't believe you!
Digimon? In your local area? It's more likely than you'd think!
Great video! But ngl your hair distracted me for half of it, it's looking really good
Haha sorry about that!
So much depth and worldbuilding... only to be overshadowed by Adventure.
Yeah definitely possible, although Wild Ones in general seem to cause havoc regardless of their attribute haha
Still.
In the 90s yes but this was the 80s lol seems a stretch people would be thinking about it so intently
@@Karn_EX Sorry, I must have misheard. I thought there was a part where you mentioned 1996.
I had no idea this was a thing, because you know, Japan exclusivity, but I sure am glad to have learned about it given that Digimon Tamers is arguably my favorite season.
Well it's my pleasure to have been able to bring it to your attention!
I would love to hear more of your monster maker partners theory, it's got some fun potential
One really creepy detail that you sort of leave out is that a map of the lab shows up on the screen with a dot showing where Daisy is, implying that the Greymon is well aware of where she is.
This was epic prequel for tamers
It really was!
Omg this is so freaking cool
I haven't heard or read it obviously before... It is an amazing concept though, and hopefully gets an adaptation in the near future.
It's pretty sad that digimon is not more popular than what it is because realer than what it is because digimon can actually be in our reality all they are is digital sprites with AI abilities
If I read it at the age I'm watching and re-watching tamers, definitely won't like it, but now at this age, it's so much interesting for me.
i love tamers and karn
Mwah! Thanks for upgrading!
i think this could make an interesting short film
Such a friggin good story, too.
We need more prequel stuff
Definitely
The tamer canon should be the main canon
This was a very interesting video. Unfortunately I don't think I'll be getting my digimon x on Wednesday..... Amazon still hasn't shipped it yet.....
Thanks! Yeah I cancelled mine cause it would take too long lol
Ooh, would love to know who Curly would get. Maybe not Meramon like Mina (the Indian girl from 02) lol
The "unfamiliar digimon" could maybe be a Black Greymon
I mean its a black and white picture lol
Hah true
Okay 0:30 in. Karn looks cool as fuck.
😎
@KarnEX i have a idea for a cartoon crossover Blackhat from alan ituriel's villainos would battle mao mao by parker simmons.
What is that square pixel art thing in the back left ?dose any one know ?
@KarnEX i'm sure digimon started out as boywatch and then zarus was almost digimon.
This story could be an horror inspired live action movie for Digimon
Did Hiroki, Cody's father, and Oikawa from 02 have some connection to Tamers 1984?
Unlikely as if anything 02 would be a fake show within the Tamers Universe unfortunately
@@Karn_EX That's too bad. But, still, Akiyama Ryo's existence in 02 and Tamers is still unexplained.
I don't know. In Tamers, Ryo said thatCyberdramon is unstable digimon and we later learned why is that - Monodramon's and Millenniumon's personalities clashed with each other.
@@MegaGigaPetarD He hopped universes. It’s explained in his games.
@@jmac28211 makes me wonder how the Adventure universe works then, is it written by and thus controlled by the whims of the tamers world or is it happenchance that the writers in the tamers world thought up the adventure story... or heck maybe this is DC and the writer(s) had a psychic link to the world and thus what they thought were their own ideas was just the events of the adventure world
The little box you have in the background that cycles through different Digimon is so cute! What is it?
Why is tamers the coolest in every way
IBM 7094 is just Hatsune miku's grandpa
Hah, exactly
I didn't need to google what she did with dolphin because the internet has ruined me
Oh well that's... handy :))
Let's gooooooooo
So regardless of the season:
Greymon walks,
So tamers can run
By chance where did you get that pixel art box from?
Amazon :)
Karn wearing his Tony Stark EDITH glasses … nice
Actually EDITH isn't red but they're the same frame style
@@Karn_EX i should of know better with a Digimon mega fan, it’s like if I called a black Agumon “a black Agumon”, instead of BlackAgumon
now i need to know the rest do they get digimon what would they be
I think its kind of a bummer that so many Digimon are considered "Adventure" Digimon, because they appear in Adventure.
6:22 i did and AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH
I warned you 😂
Karn: sip some hi-c ecto cooler...
Me: a single sad tear of longing rolls down my cheek.
What is that pixel thing with digimon on it I want one
Where did you get Lopmon plush? I want one too >_
Interesting.
