Nil By Mouth is one of the greatest films ever. It shows real people and real situations. Gary Oldman is a true artist and Winstone and Burke give the performances of a life time.
Outstanding film! Gary Oldman created a masterpiece with his debut as a director. I'm glad the critics such as: Roger Ebert and Janet Maslin loved the film. Ray Winstone was also outstanding in this film. Brilliant actor. I can see Ray being another great British actor if he keeps going.
Brutal, hard hitting, realistic and absolutely brilliant film with first class acting. Probably my favourite British film.
Chills right up my body within the first two seconds
Best film off all time
THE MOST REALISTIC MOVIE EVER MADE!!!
the man in the jeans holding that kids hand is my daddy!!!! xxxx
How cool!
I think this film "Nil By Mouth" is in "the 1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die!" book! And it should be, because it's honestly a Work of Art!
Gary Oldman, Kathy Burke, Ray Winstone, and Jamie Foreman have created a Masterpiece, And in years to come, it will always be One of the Greatest British Films Ever Made! the movie is Exhilerating!
Gary Oldman should direct more movies because he is a true filmmaker!
Kathy Burke is superb.
true, she should do more films.
One of the greatest British films ever made
I actually love this trailer, leaves more to the imagination. Cool song too
A spectacular film, raw, brutal & painful an incredible movie. I couldn’t watch the entire movie in one go it was too overwhelming. If a movie evokes such brutal emotions then, in my books, that’s a great movie.
As of 2019 Gary Oldman's batting average as a director for masterworks is 1.000.
I'm guessing the trailer had to be a silent montage set to music as the film's riddled with effin' and jeffin' and they couldn't broadcast more than about 10 seconds of it!
Your point being? 🙄 dont watch if youre so sensitive. Bad language is a part of life
Let me know if this is ever downloaded. Kathy Burke is priceless
Some people might find this film hard to stomach and even downright disturbing in its brutal depiction of a family in London. But I'll tell you one thing, after seeing this movie I was thinking about it two weeks later.
proper London film
So true so sad it hurts 😢
Frances Ashman - Pandora
I think I get this film, I may be way off but heres how I see it. It's about people who are stuck in loops, women going back to men who are no good for them, drug addicts going back to drugs which are no good for them. And in Ray's case, its the loop of father figures, he wears the scars of his own father, and so mindlessly projects his aggression on his own family. The truly sad thing is, is they dont actually break out of their habits, and the film ultimately ends where it began
As-well it might, Britain like many countries is built on rotten foundations of Empires which chew up and spit out it's subjects when they can't be used as useful idiots like it's middle classes.
This must be one hell of a film because that was the worst trailer I've ever seen and I still wanna watch this movie.
The real London of the 80s & 90s before gentrification
@Patrikuse i agree, i try not to keep watching it so much so it don't lose it's power.
Been there done it 😢
@hammy012 your dad didn't like all the swearing that was used? This is a grim family portrait that shows a realistic slice of lower-class life: violence, drugs, petty crime, excessive drinking, and wife beating that ties this downbeat story together, you must have a middle class father
Reminds me of' The Boys ' , an Australian film from the same year.
love kathy burke, she's a ledge!! i look up to her and i want to be just lik her!! :D x
Danny Dyers favourite film would you believe. I'm not impressed by the trailer but we'll see folks.
Were you impressed then?

You’re Japanese ?
Uncompromising. It's like Scum, Trainspotting, The Bill, and Eastenders all in one.
ARRGH.
MY DAD THOUGHT THIS FILM SUCKED. HE CALLED GARY OLDMAN "HAIRY OLD MAN".
...Probably he's just angry with all the swearing used. I love this film, it's an amazing film portraying the true side of society that you can only expierience from living there.
@porkys54321 Guiness book I think.
BEST EVER MOVIE.
Gary Oldman Directed it.
It's not 435 or 522, it's 470.
such a great film . people who complain are probably those who consider the bond films as "realistic" spy films
Well I re-watched it last night after watching it some 25 years ago, and I have to say what a cracking film it is! Fantastic acting all round but Ray, Kathy and Charlie all stood out in my opinion. My only slight criticism was there could have been more fcuking swearing. Haha...
For movies with the most f-words, this one places second. No lie.
Half the people here probably got here from the bleep button app. According to the app this film has more f-words than any other film that's not literally a documentary about the word fuck.
Should had won Oscars
@alnuggy I agree mate
I'm really glad I decided to watch this trailer. Wow to think I almost watched this movie... Wow that was close. PHew!
What do mean? This movie is fucking brilliant.
I don't get what you mean. This film is outstanding. But why take countless respected film critics, many top actors and the general publics word for it, you obviously just would rather judge film before even seeing it.
Cory the trailer does not do it justice , watch it , it's unbelievable. Grim as fuck and shows how we can forgive people so easily for the crap they give us throughout the little time we spend time we spend with loves one's
some very negative comments on here , the film is very true to life of eastend london , as for the comments ,its boring ! how you can say that i dont know ! , i could not understand a word that was said ? are you mutten n jeff ? lol , its meant to be bleak , its how times are in parts of our inner cities , Kathy Burke is outstanding and so is ray winstone
maybe back in the 90s but its not a reflection of London today for a start most the white working class Londoners from these Estates which have mostly since been destroyed by the wrecking ball have all moved further afield like Essex and Kent
and thats not a negative comment as this is one of my favorite films from the 90s as i can relate to that life growing up on a london council estate
My mother said I was nil by mouth last night.
@marleymike2 how about the C word?
The ‘90s were so edgy, or at least they thought they were
That what..
Is there swearing in this film. I'm especially winding about the f word
It's known for 428 F words and 82 c**t uses. I'm not to keen about swearing but it fit Ray's anger and lack of self-control.
It's a masterpiece, I would still highly recommend it.
Do you really believe that? Why?
nope
Are you saying you're over 90 years old or you first watched this in the 1990's?
nick4uuk IMBD.
This is one hell of a foul mouthed film.
Watched it for 15 minutes and could not understand a word they were saying except the f bomb. Wasn't worth my time.
it's the minorties
And it was boring...I expected more out of Gary Oldman.
