This has special memories for me. My husband was a musician and this was his favourite film. He played this on the piano for me many times as I loved it. He passed away suddenly two years ago on Easter Sunday aged 68. I will always treasure this memory x
I remember watching this on HBO after coming home from college to relax before finals week. Being born in 58 i was aware of many of these events and knew people similar to those shown. I grew up in Fremont California and visited Carmel and Monterey many times. I traveled southern California and The Valley in the late 60s and san Francisco during the hippies, knew people in the anti war movement and had older friends die in Vietnam i just sat there and stared at the screen when it was over. I have a DVD and still watch this movie once a year and remember. It transports me back in time where I smile and remember the times and the people and the friends and loved ones that are long gone
Such a charming and funny movie ... you never think it’s about an adulterous affair! I don’t know how many times I’ve watched it, and this beautiful song is breathtaking!😽💕
Mine, too. I bought it a couple of years ago because I watched it so much online. They took it down now. I must've watched it 15 - 20 times so far. I first saw it on 📺 in 1978, I was 17.
Its incredible to me how our perspectives change based on how a storyline is presented to us. In this movie - we are all enthralled by the love story of these two characters - because it was presented under the romantic notion that we are all looking for. Yet, these are two married adults who are committing adultery. Not to rain on anyone's parade - but it is just fascinating to me how easily our perspectives skew.
Oh, Jane, where has the time gone? Thanks to You Tube your music is only a few clicks away whenever I feel the need to listen to you sing. I just looked at the Johnny Carson clip when you sang a couple of songs from the Chasing Rainbows Album and you were sensational! Isa, I know Jane will never see my comment but I always feel compelled to speak out about her whenever I can. I was fortunate to know her and even though we associate her with music so profoundly sad and beautiful at the same time, 'off-the-cuff', she was, and I'm sure she still is, hysterically funny and a real joy to spend time with. Every memory I have sharing time with her are very vivid as if they just happened yesterday. Before I leave I want to thank you for this wonderful, edited video featuring Johnny and Jane singing this, now a classic song, for all to listen to.
Have loved this song and movie for years. Have never seen this video before. Thank you so much. Just a piece of beauty and perfection in an often dark and crazy world
I always had a crush on Alan Alda, beginning with MASH on TV! This just reinforces why he does it for me; his personality, wit, intelligence are so appealing.
Unfortunately it's not playing anywhere . I tried uploading it on Netflix and everything else and it says not available. I don't know why it's a fantastic movie I absolutely love it. If I ever find it in a bin and a video I'm going to buy three copies😂
I remember being very disappointed upon buying the single, that the arrangement and key had been changed, making it quite different from the version I loved in the movie. Shoulda left it alone.
And today (2024) these beautiful young actors are 91 (Ellyn) and 88 (Alan). So glad we have this film of them in their prime.
Absolutely love this film ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
We saw this years ago, and between us he 2 of us remembered it and found it was on and sent for it!😊

One of the most beautiful sentimental touchingly accurate songs ever written, sung by two of the best pair of voices ever recorded....
I agree. This has been my personal favorite of all times, and it always makes me cry.❤
One of my all time favorited ❤

The hotel is just south of Mendocino California. You can still rent the “Same Time” and “Next Year” suites.
We’ve stayed there

It's such a charming movie, funny and dramatic, two of the greatest actors to grace the screen, and the Theme song is a masterpiece.
Beautiful, simply beautiful, the whole thing, with the film clip and with Mathis and Olivor singing that incredibly beautiful song. Thanks!
I want this played at my funeral.
This song is on my walking music. I sing along and I’m absolutely certain I sound just like Jayne Oliver ❤

Love at first sight is rare, but these two characters really did fall in love at first glance. They should have been married.

OMGosh! When was Alan Alda ever this young looking? I loved him so much as Hawkeye in MASH. Johnny Mathis singing at his very best.

As an Englishman I always say the Americans can’t make films with charm. This film makes my claim untrue
