  • Classic Game Room HD reviews PERFECT DARK ZERO for Xbox 360 from 2005, an early release for the 360 and a memorable first person shooter from Rare. This CGRHD review of Perfect Dark Zero has gameplay footage from Perfect Dark Zero showing game play during this FPS featuring Joanna Dark in a prequel to the Perfect Dark storyline on N64. Use a clever variety of weapons in creative levels that keep the game fresh and interesting from beginning to end. Perfect Dark Zero can be bought today for a song and while it seems slow compared to some more popular shooters these days. The game itself remains technically solid, smooth and sounds awesome. The storyline is sub-par but the replay value due to the amazing level design is high, and that's what really stands out with this game. Awesome levels, techo style music and lots of cool futuristic weaponry make this an easy game to drop $5 on and add to your collection.

I like how this game still looks way better than most 360 games. Rare nailed the graphics right out of the gate.

Paulo Lameiras Too bad it was a huge letdown. I think when I bought it I was expecting awesome multiplayer, which it didn't really deliver (x360 didn't really have any worthwhile multiplayer games in the first year). If I played this game today I'd probably appreciate it moreso.

+KoolDawg99 agreed but we can understand the reaction of the fans though.I mean, when I first played It, I was loathing the dumbass father of joanna and found the story so underwhelming compare to the n64 counterpart. It almost feels like they're not set In the same universe. But in terms of game;yeah It's fun and got its moment.

The "hate" this game get is well-deserved. Wonky aiming, stiff movement, and horrendous gunplay aren't what I'd consider in the makings of a "good" game.

This game is Simply beautiful, colorful and ALOT of FUN , especially when compared to the bland crap that passes for AAA today and through out the 7th gen. PD zero didnt deserve the hate , it was doing its own thing , It was different.

      John
I think it is , it feels fresh in comparison to modern titles. I still play it online and offline with bots, the singleplayer component is alot of fun. PD zero is bashed because it isn't the first one and it isn't COD/halo.

No mention of multiplayer? Jetpacks? Hovercrafts? Glitchers? Friendly infiltrators? I'm afraid you left out the best parts. Some of those jetpack wars with 32 players having it out in the Desert map, were the most epic thing I've ever seen. I miss the jetpacks. So powerful... yet so vulnerable at close quarters.

I really don't blame Rare for how this game turned out, anyone who loves Rare like I do knows it was their corporate chain-tuggers that kept busting their balls during the development with these unreal deadlines. In spite of the dark history behind this game, I still like it, and play it from time to time. Though, in terms of sequels, this game is a HELL of a lot more satisfying sequel than another Rare game Microsoft had a huge influence on...
Now, if you want a game that is a worthy successor to Perfect Dark, try and get a copy of Timesplitters 2 and Timesplitters: Future Perfect for either the Xbox or PS2 or Gamecube. Some of the developers for both games brought us Goldeneye and Perfect Dark too!

Hey dude, I saw your perfect dark review since I got perfect dark on the xbox live arcade mode. I....wasn't impressed. You didn't give so much good comments about the game, you just said that it was a shame that the game came on the N64....you got to understand that the game was made in 2000, a year where the mechanics of call of duty advanced warfare and timesplitters weren't come up with. Plus I love perfect dark, It's the best first person shooter ever made and it beats shooters like Destiny and such. Plus you should had said more about its guns, characters, modes, etc....because you haven't even tried the multiplayer in the game.

The lead programmer and three others left to make Free Radical. That and MS weren’t all at fault though. Supposedly they had free reign during the OG Xbox and they may have spent too long in testing and preproduction. So by the time new suits got into MS during 360, they were shot down when proposing multiple games like Kameo 2 and Perfect Dark 2. The real dark days took place after the poor sales of Viva Piñata Trouble in Paradise and Nuts& Bolts. Creativity was squashed and all remaining staff and the Stampers left. They were forced to be Kinect studio and Avatar support. Sadly their Kinectgames outsold IMO their superior games. I’d prefer to play Nuts & Bolts, Kameo and Viva Piñata.

Perfect Dark is completely Rare, GoldenEye was part Rare but it was Nintendo who held the Bond license. So it was in development for a remake but Microsoft and Nintendo could not reach an agreement on how it should be released, M$ was going to allow it PLUS Rare's entire classic lineup on the Virtual Console of the Wii, but Nintendo said no.
The retelling of the story in GoldenEye Wii and Reloaded, for now is as close as we will ever get.

Notice how most shooting never really talk to the person yelling in their ear, but they die and they can tell the silence is death.

Perfect Dark Zero didn't look as bad as I remember it being in 2005. However, it is nice that a certain few Wii games look about as good as the 360's launch titles, these games being Super Mario Galaxy and the new Metroid game from what I have seen.

I just bought this game from my local rental store who had it up for sale for $10. Even tho I don't own a 360 YET I plan to get one next week, and am prepping for it. I am going to buy the 360 slim 250gb. :D

i remember my cousin once compared this game to metal gear solid 2. i forgot why but looking at this game now, he probably played that game when he was high.

@davefollow: Screw you: The game is actually great once you get used to the play mechanics (you can only sprint unarmed) and the tactical-like style of play. Even though this the first Xbox 360 gme, it graphics are some of the best, if not the best, to ever grace this console, even now 6 years later!

I prefer the multiplayer in Perfect Dark and the single player in Goldeneye, mainly because of the low frame rate on Perfect Dark which is strangely less noticeable in multiplayer.

I wish this game was on the PS3, I really want to play it, looks like a lot of fun and if it has4 player local multiplayer like the N64 PD did then it would be a ton of fun.

My local GAME store had the metal box collectors edition for £3 so I picked it up.I think that it's pretty average compared to the first one but worth a play.

personally I prefer the original n64 version over the xbox one, just because of the gameplay in multiplayer. I rememeber spending countless nights playing multiplayer on conkers bad fur day for my n64 when I was a kid.

Don't worry, you're not the only one. (ok, I'm not saying the story is great, but it's not as bad as everyone keeps saying it is. It's still enjoyable, as well as the books. Hell, the books are great, go find them and read them now!)

Does this game output in 1080p? Because I remember reading an article that the first model 360s, when played on an HD tv, outputted in 480p.

Man, Perfect Dark Zero was such a colossal let-down for me, Joanna turned from sophisticated Brit to a bratty-teen American (not a generalization of all Americans), the stealth sections were complete bull and man I HATED the time sections and those escort missions, they were like cancer!
The combat, weapons, multiplayer and levels I loved, reminded me of Timesplitter levels...such a shame that there are no aliens though.
