- Battlefield has amazing sound effects. Here are some behind-the-scenes footage of how sound design was created throughout the Battlefield games.

The German voice actors contributed immensely to the feeling of immersion that BF1 has. Unbelievable.
110% the warcries are unmatched
All of the VA’s did bruh
all of them did, the american voices are also chilling
The death voices really, REALLY make me feel uneasy, and I lived through through an armed conflict back home...
This passion must return
marked one what the hell
Undeniable
it wont...waaaay too many games without passion and souless development are making waaay more money than games made with passion so why would the devs put passion into the game when yall wont buy their games as much as you play souless games like warzone, fortnite etc
MARKED ONE?!
well I guess that, the pandemic massively affected the project for BF2042
They say, bf1 is a love letter from the developers, I think it's absolutely correct.
They save every game from 1 and forwards has been a love letter.
It really is. We can still tell years later
BF3*
@@rihards496well 1 was the last time they were telling the truth. It’s the best battlefield along side 3.
@@rihards496 You think V and 2042 were love letters from the devs? What on Earth have you been smoking??
The guy screaming through the air in one of the ending clips had me dying lol.
LMFAOO
🤣🤣🤣🤣
I never knew that even happened. I was dying 😂 but I love the little detail that Dice gave the game back then.. I hope with their new battlefield coming up, is actually worthy of our time.
My favourite sound effect must be the foghorn of the blimp when it spawns, but in general, I love the absolute terror that the soldiers voices transmit in German, English, Italian, Russian and Turkish is amazing.
Battlefield 3 is so much ASMR
I really miss my highschool days playing bf4 on my ps3 when im home alone so I can completely turn the audio up and let it fill the room. It didn't feel like playing an fps game. It felt like you were in a warzone.
The reason the sound in Battlefield 2042 deteriorated is because Stefan Strandberg left DICE after Battlefield 5 and joined Embark Studios.
makes total sense. His time at DICE made the battlefield series shine in the audio department....war tapes sounded so good
I mean Embark started mainly with a lot of ex dicers, at the time i was at dice and really a ton of people quit to work at embark, to the point where i believe embark and dice leadership made some agreements, but i just heard that inbetween doors back then.
Thanks for letting me know.
That explains alot
Battlefield 5 was crap though so
As a game sound designer myself, thank you for talking about Sound Design 💞 it often goes under the radar, it's awesome to see people appreciate this art.
I call it the "Invisible Storyteller"
That’s really cool, thank you
The kill sound from Battlefield 1 is pure eargasm, the best sound effect they ever created. It's so good that when BFV launched and it wasn't there, people pushed them to bring it back, and they did it.
I didn’t know that, cool
Battlefield V's air planes are on another level. When they fly over head in game my hold home entertainment system SHAKES! It's insane
With or without war tapes turned on?
@ Absolutely WITHOUT war tapes. War Tapes basically adds a Compressor to the full mix, while slightly raising the low ends. While it sounds cool with headphones, unfortunately you lose all the dynamic range. (Explosions and footfalls are almost at the same level)
The standard speaker mix will give you so much more punch :)
Agreed. When the P51 Mustang was added they even implemented its iconic flyby sound. Absolute insanity in a good way.
Bf4 helicopter sound when they are changing direction I think is massively overlooked
I liked Battlefield when we just played a class of normal soldiers more than Operator in Battletrash 2042, also the sound design and reload animation in the old one are really satisfying
Battlefield 2042 was a test, the next battlefield SHOULD be like 3 and 4
@@RifleRaptorYT
BF2042 was a mess*
@@caydenph2741 i agree
I'm so sick of these copypaste hero-shooters
BF 2042 has been one of the best BF games for over a year now...
Battlefield 1 hands down has the BEST sound design in a game that I've ever heard. From the ambience to the gunfire, the voice acting, the random things happening in the background and especially the explosions . It's perfection.
Mcom alarm go hard
The audio in the Battlefield games used to be so incredible, Battlefield 2042 just pales in comparison.
2042 by far has the best positional audio in the series and it's not even close
@@thebigsamnot the best audio though
@@RifleRaptorYT I'd rather take a functional gameplay audio than an atmospheric audio
@@thebigsam
I take both, thanks.
@@caydenph2741 I'd like to see you try
Who else remembers their first time playing a modern battlefield game with surround sound on?
Battlefield 1, I still play at this day, and still feel one modern and perfect game!
Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 4 has the best sound quality and realism. Impressive and ahead of the time, because its hard to record loud sounds like gunfire and studios always use the recreated cinema sounds effect instead.
I always liked the the explosions on those games.
Sorry but BF1 sound and atmosphere was just another level, your mistaking your favourite game, loved all the Battlefield games from Bad company 2 to all the way to Bf1
BF3 was the last game where they gave the level designers priority ahead of everyone else. BF4 started their push to make the games "pretty" first and play well 2nd. If you look for it, you can see the slow decline of the strategy of the maps after 3.
@@joshuawiedenbeck6944 True. I bought BF4 and I noticed that. It's a pretty game but feels a bit "arcade" instead of BF3 realism.
@Huguito I can't remember the name of the video ( I watched it years ago), but someone did a breakdown of the differences with overlays and explanations. It was really obvious after watching it.
Absolutely incredible, Battlefield 1 still never fails to give me chills... Great video
Wow. I feel the same about it
the first time playing of BF1 was amazing...voiceline, vehicle, atmosphere of every map, everything was perfect.
I remember the great sound in BFBC2 and the first bad company. Amazing
To me not a single battlefield matched the sound design from BC2. Especially when played on Laguna Presa map.
Fun Fact: BF1 Voice Actors wore helmets and kit and were told to voice their lines as if screaming over gunfire for full effect
Fun Fact: Footage (and explanation) of the BF1 voice acting is literally at 3:30 and shows that they were not wearing helmets and kit, but were instead made to do intense physical exercises. Bold of you to not watch the video and immediately go to the comments to try to show off some approximate knowledge you heard from someone else, but I shouldn't complain because that's how all conversations with dudes go these days
Perfect example how insanely talented and enthusiastic DICE used to be with Battlefield. Glad to have been there to experience it, gonna miss it lots.
Loved how BFBC2 had Russians yelling in Russians in multiplayer.
Nice, I definitely remember that one
Thats it, battlefield is about a realístic visual and áudio experience.
This brought back so many good memories. Bullets cracking over your head, explosions vibrating the room, tanks crumbling through houses.
How the hell did we stray so far from greatness.
I always found it hilarious how Battlefield had way better sounding tank engines than a dedicated tank game like WarThunder
Is that actually true? like the m1 Abrams and t90?
It feels very "cheap" in WarThunder. Like there is no sound distinction when shifting gears... It's just an audio file that plays a continuous idling engine sound.
@@huhumata Their budget (from pre-release) and incentive was much larger than Gaijin's
Awesome video. Bf4, 5 and 1 are all amazing. I will literally turn on my surround system and blast this game when i am home alone for a full immersion feeling.
True. Not a lot of games sound that good
BF1’s pre operations speeches of all nations were so motivating. Each DLC release almost EVERYONE pushed. There was almost no one hanging way too far back in spawn. Verdun Heights and the Russian Cathedral were absolute chaos on day 1. I wanna experience that for the first time again
The dlcs were on another level
@ even their trailers were up there too. Such hype
Weapon mechanics took a dive in BF1, but there were some really cool gamemodes. BF1 was the last of the good Battlefield games.
BF5 was a great game in the end, BF1 had it beat in terms of immersion, but the gunplay was far superior in BF5. In my opinion though, BF4 was the last truly unobjectionably great BF game, every one after had some legitimate gripes even though some were still good games.
bf3 was unbelievably good when it game to sound
still is, I still playing it
Indeed
Back when BF3 came out I was amazed at the sound as well.
Great video. Nice to see that people still take interest in this beautiful franchise.
More to come
@UltraWarrior593 Glad to know. By the way, could you tell me where you found that Ottoman medic meme? I assume Reddit, but did you see or do you know if there are others of the kind, like with the Italian medic?
I think, BC2 audio design is the greatest one in bf franchise.
The song during the last seconds of the video gave me goosebumps, ATTACK B!!!
BF V is a really good game after all updates. The airplanes especially are amazing honestly.
NGL i love the the details where if u fire the machine gun from tanks between first person perspective and third person perspective its sounds different
I appreciate the little things like that too
The Finals and Arc Raiders both have the top notch design BF is known for. Looks like the sound designers from the BF franchise moved on to Embark Studios as well.
my favorite sound is the sound of the V-1 bomb from bfv. It's paralyzing, I'll never forget that sound when I first heard it
4:15 is hilarious, it made me burst out in laughter.
Don't be sad that it's over, be happy that it happened.
Stefan the type of guy to get deployed in a real war, to get the audio recordings he need. His craft, made the game feel so realistic. 👌🏻
I've been playing battlefield series since bad company 2. And i would i say BF3, and BF1 are the best in the franchise. Soldiers swearing, all the explosion effects, radio chatters heck even clothes makes sound in BF3, BF1 voice actors made it most immersive. Soldiers screaming, breathing heavy when near grenades, complimenting each other when you snipe someone, chanting in round start etc!
Battlefield 1 blasted me away when I first played it, the sound of bullets dropping inside a tank, air planes fly over my head, artilleries explode near my location, and the screams of soldiers, they're just too perfect
Bad Company 1 also had an incredible sound design, it was the introduction of the frostbite engine to the franchise.
i remember 10 years ago on my Teufel Concept E 450 System, which took me a while to safe up to due to only being able to do school jobs ( i was 14), which in my case was delivering newspapers on weekends, i would always turn the Sound Setting on Warbands and cranked my Subwoofer and Speakers all the way up. It was always so stunning and it always felt so immersed, so chaotic and intense. Was amazing man....
This is why the Battlefield titles are famous
They put alot more emphasisis (please correct me on thay word if it's incorrectly spelled) on what you would hear after shooting, it feels so powerful hearing the sound echo through out the area.
I never forget how quality sound from bf3/4/1 is golden
5:40 its a criminal offense that u didnt add the sound of a full Metro Rush server!!
The way it sounds when 2 teams clash into each other in the metro tunnels blew my mind when i got the game on xbox 360.
i had Razer Chimera 5.1 headphones and the sounds from heavy mashine gun fire, sniper rifles, rockets flying thrue the tunnels beside u and exploding and the sounds of USAS shotguns with exploding ammo ripping thrue a whole team was defenitely something else.
the men of my sister once watched when i played a Metro session and i had my Logitech 2.1 speakers activated.
He absolutely loved the sound design and especially the sound of rocket launcher zipping thrue the air.
i also loved the sounds of flying in Jets and being in a helicopter. This game felt real to me. Sadly no other battlefield hooked me that much ever again.
Yeah so much more I could’ve added
They even utilized a snowmobile with a pulsejet propulsion, and as a result the sound effect they did for BFV's V1 is absolutely stunning.
And the fact they used an actual Corsair and Zero made the Pacific update quite nice. Shame that BFV was the last of these great things.
It saddens me immensely that we may never see a Battlefield game achieve perfection ever again.
Look at that. And then look at the state of gaming today. Truly unbelievable.
Yup, they never fail us at sound design
68 subscribers and this video deserves a like. I don't usually watch small channels on youtube but this video is really well thought in my opinion.
I really appreciate that
"Everything was exaggerated in Bad Company 2", and that's exactly why it was so good. It felt like total chaos-overwhelming, just as war should.
When battlefield was real battlefield before it turns to be cartoon avengers 10 years old babyfield
Bad company 2 I could tell exactly where someone was running up to me like I was there. All these other games I really can't. Bc2 was also my favorite
6:37 gave me chills
and yet the franchise is on its sure way to the grave of eternity
Bfv had the most immersive atmosphere ever
bad bait
BF1 are better.
BF5’s sound design was atrocious for the first public tech demo they had. That (along with the former dev’s comments) is what turned me away from the game.
@@MedicAthlete24W he wasnt even a dev.
I think BFV was the superior game, but BF1 definitely takes the cake for immersion.
the intro is music to my ears
The best sound in all Battlefield saga is the Mortar Sound of Bad Company 2
i have played recently battlefield 1 with some very good headphones i acquired recently, it sounds so good, just as good as bf4 and better because of how the soldiers vocal design were made. Pretty amazing stuff, and just shows how far the new battlefield twenty forty shit is from the true DNA of battlefield.
hope to see this in the next battlefield
Swedish armed forces mentioned !! 🇸🇪🦅🇸🇪🦅🇸🇪🦅🇸🇪🦅🇸🇪🦅🇸🇪🦅🇸🇪🦅🇸🇪🦅🇸🇪🦅🇸🇪🦅🇸🇪
i laughed so hard at 6:13
Battlefield is a playable history lesson❤
As a German. Our Voice experience is mostly better than the original ones. In Movies and in Games. Love it.
I miss battlefield 😢
Bro only thing I get sorry about this video is, even EA made those all masterpiece arts people still pay more money for cod games.
The work they did is underappreciated for sure
It’s almost as if both games have different followings…Battlefield has always been less popular than Call of Duty. I wouldn’t say people pay more for COD because at the time of BF3 and 4 the DLC prices for both series were nearly identical.
BF1 was OG DICE’s Magnum opus and since they left it’s never been the same…
I can't wait for a remaster
6:38 "AAAaa"
for me it just sounded like i was in a movie. arma refoger sounds like you're actually there
ye and has on top non dogshyte gameplay
From “we went to the middle of a military exercise and that experience was quite powerful” to “I want to re-write history and wipe out the memory of people who actually fought and gave their lives in a war just so that my child daughter can feel empowered”.
I mean.. what the hell were they thinking?
masterpiece
I have to say, bfV plane sounds are awesome.
Yeah same with the rockets
Gas turbine engine from M1 Abrams and the Diesel engine from T-90 in Battlefield 3 👍
MASCHINENGEWEHR-JUNGS!!!! 🗣️🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I miss playing battlefield!
Insurgency Sandstorm is up there. And the audio in that game was done mostly by one guy.
Russian VO from BF3 was something else... :DDDDD
only issue i see is that when the record that footage of the swedish training maneuver, that weapons with blank devices and blank ammo sound way different than with actual ammo. it is of course no issue because it delivers the needed atmosphere and impact.
I always loved BF but started playing Insurgency and I have to say , Incoming gunfire sound in that is way more realistic, I have received incoming gunfire a couple of times IRL
tbf i prefer the sound in bc2, it felt more immersive for some reason. The default war noises in the background felt much more embracing and present than in the following games.
Operation locker is still the most violent experience in battlefield❤😂
sound design bf 4 is what compensates for the shortcomings of 3d graphics
6:38 aaaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHhhhhhhhhhh
Good video
Thanks for watching
It's not even funny how much better the sound design is in battlefield compared to say delta force mid ops
I could listen to germans scream all day. Something about it is very calming, despite the history of it
Thank you!
The sound in Battlefield is good but what they dont capture is the loud snap when rounds are coming your way. What they captured when they were embedded with the troops were just blanks. What they should do is put a microphone down range and shoot towards its direction.
nice video man subscriped , my favourite sound design is in bad company 2
Thanks. My favorite is BF1 and I like to play it at loud volume sometimes lol
*Squad has entered the chat*
Like it or not plenty of call of duty titles have done the same thing. They even released footage of them doing it for WWII. I know, that’s hard for people to hear because it leaves them with less to complain about but unfortunately it’s true.
They hired the angry German kid.
I miss Dice. The REAL Dice.😥
Battlefield 3 tuvo el mejor audio de todos!
